Too many fouls, and too many free throws!!

Just an observation, but it seems to me that the number of free throws, and foul calls is becoming completely ridiculous in the NBA. Any little amount of contact = foul. Are players just pussies and can't take the contact, or do we really need that many extra points to 'make the game more exciting'? I personally don't find the extra scoring exciting, especially when it comes from the free throw line.

Today in the Heat v. Magic game, Miami shot 47 free throws, and Orlando shot 37. It's just ridiculous, on both sides. The game is stopped every couple of seconds and nothing special really happens. If this is their idea of making the game more enjoyable, it really isn't working.

i agree, it stops the flow of the game

Its annoying yes, but its not like every game is like that. There are some where the refs barely ever blow the whistle and that is frustrating also. Its both extremes kinda.

seems like the nba adds one more thing every season that the defensive players cant do, as if the offensive guys need any additional help. media/fans like offense though, and with these current rules, that is exactly what they get

I hate it too. I enjoy the more physical style of play and it does seem like players of today are babied.. Bunch of pussies..

No... I can see why they require that. Players could have an STD or another disease transmitted through blood. If Magic had blood on his jersey, there is no way I would defend him. Do you really want to risk transmitting HIV?

But alot of players probably don't have the disease but you can't take any chance with that kind of thing.

That's why they make the players have short nails because if someone his cut with another player's nails it can cause all sorts of things. Mainly bacterial diseases.

it's the NBA trying to currtail to the "stupid" part of the fanbase/people still not fans of the NBA. The NBA marketing people think the casual fan wants to see high flying dunks and fast break basketball.

plus also the NBA is in a way trying to protect it's multimillionaire superstars

If you touch someone with your hands it's an automatic foul, Unless you are in a post-up situation (and even then, i think you're limited to just 1 forearm).

Hand Checking: A defender may not place and keep his hand on an opponent unless he is in the area near the basket with his back to the basket.

Too many fould and I hate how big name players get all the calls and go to the stripe. Like Kobe, you touch his arm a bit and bam!! a foul!! You touch Milicic on his arm a bit, play continues.

I hate this whole hand-checking issue because I really dont feel its that big a deal. Yes its not allowed but its not like they call it all the time. I keep hearing about how the league wants more offense but I dont see teams putting up 120 a night so I would say it has little or no impact on the game. Maybe the impact it has is to make people not score as much as they potentially could because a few times I have seen opportunities to score taken away because they made that call right before the player made the move. Oh well...

Not even a minute in and it's apparently bad enough to call time! Admittedly it was only a 20 second timeout but stopping the game over the first basket of the game?

if someone blew a matchup..... or pop wanted to change the defensive matchups, I can see where hes coming from.

I can see where he's coming from but 23 seconds into the game is just crazy. The Spurs did of course lose the game but one could attribute that to Iggy's clutch tip with a second left, rather than his explosive dunk to opening the scoring. It just felt like a knee-jerk reaction to a good play that hardly put the game in jeopardy.

i hate the amount of foul calls in the nba now, and they only do it to try and increase scoring so it looks likes todays players are so much better than they are. its sad the way the nba has turned in an effort to increase scoreing but the constant foul shots is still better than the closer 3 point line if you ask me
