Valor wrote:You really need to work on that defense, this kind of a defensive effort is a shame of the Spurs organization :scold:

Yeah, terrible. 59 games in, and I still have problem with those stupid 2K11 turnovers. I think in 59 games, I only had fewer turnovers in 5 or 6. :shake: I really need to work on that, specially for the playoffs.

Grandmama Johnson wrote:Quinn definitely had a good debut there. For me, that game by Hughes is a huge stat. If he had a normal instead of great night, that might be the difference between winning and losing.

P.S. Don't hurt Cleveland too bad!

Very happy with Hughes and Quinn's games. Hopefully they can keep up! With how I've been playing lately, I don't know what to expect against the Cavs! (I have another game against the Grizz first).

MrHeraklinos wrote:Gasol + Robinson o.o! Also It's sad to see gay isn't scoring 25+ :( Nice win though, I like Blair's stats :D

Mayo and Robinson had the scoring, Gay was kind of uneffective. Gasol was just incredible on the boards. I think I can make Blair a MIP candidate for next year!

Badger wrote:lol, good picture

I didn't look at there since I posted here lastly, you made 57 matches  As Valor said, you need a great defense because you allowed 112 points, it reached the highest limit of allowed score for Spurs.

59 already! Obviously a record for me. I will look for more defensive free agents in the offseason.

The X wrote:I expect better from Thierry. That cut doesn't have smooth lines. For shame :scold:

It's because I have that pic with very big dimensions, when I resized it, the smooth lines went to hell (N)

Houndy wrote:Defense! Defense!

Gotta be very concentrated from now on. I have both games against the Heat coming soon. :cheeky:

Guys -- gonna recap a NCAA game and then... MARCH STARTING! :cheeky:

Calimbas, Hoyas have Sweet Sixteen on their minds? Badly routed by Otoo, UConn Huskies
Preview | Recap | Game Info | Full Play-by-Play | Boxscores (Georgetown :: Connecticut)

CONNECTICUT, February 28 -- The Georgetown Hoyas had all but clinched a spot in the Sweet Sixteen with only two weeks of regular season left, so they didn't dwell for long on their 73-35 loss to the UConn Huskies. In fact, we could say the Hoyas had only end of March games on their minds after the game. “We've always had tough games like this,” Hoyas' Austin Freeman said. “They're high energy, they're all over the place and have confidence. They are close to clinch a Sweet Sixteen spot as well.” The Huskies, meanwhile, can only reflect on a season that is seeing them win 13 of 22 games and clinch one of the lower seeds, or miss the Sweet Sixteen if they lose some contests. “That's what I talked about to the guys after game,” Hoyas coach John Thompson III said. “We may be going home soon, and these other guys will be playing in the NCAA Tournament. Remember this feeling.” Only one Georgetown player was in double figures: Hollis Thompson, with 14 points and six rebounds. Thompson got the start in place of Chris Wright, who was benched for the last couple of games. Freeman shot 2-of-10 for 4 points, while former NLSC Academy member Jesrie Calimbas posted 3 points, 3 rebounds and 2 assists, shooting 1-of-8. The Hoyas shot a disastrous 12 percent from the field in the first half.

Alex Oriahki led the Huskies with a double-double of 14 points and 11 rebounds, and Calimbas' former teammate in the Academy, Zee Otoo, added 13 points in 6-of-8 shooting. Gavin Edwards had 12 points and nine rebounds for Connecticut and Kemba Walker had 8 points and five assists. Charles Okwandu added six points and a season-high 11 rebounds. The Hoyas now have to look a little closer on their rearview mirror: the Villanova Wildcats defeated the Wisconsin Badgers 70-68 and closed the gap to only 0.5 games. “We're approaching the Sweet Sixteen real fast, so we have to change gears,” said Otoo. “We need to step up this last two weeks of the regular season to clinch a seed.” The Huskies dominated the first half against the Hoyas, outscoring them with an impressive 31-5 score in the second period and a 47-11 lead at halftime. “Let's make it clear, that we don't want to tease our fans into thinking that every game is going to be like this. Of course not,” Oriahki said. “But we're going to go out every night. What everybody should expect is we're going to go out and play hard every night. That's my promise.”

♦ Bonjour, Spurs fans. Welcome to Part IV of the our Year-in-Review -- February. Already February, how time flies, incredible. As the season progresses, we took a look back to review our season. In Part I, we examined the opening months of the season -- October and November, that saw the Black & Silver explode to close November, winning 6 of their last 7 games. In Part II, we witnessed another great month in December -- triumphs in 9 of the last 10 games of 2010. In Part III, we saw how things were really starting to pick up around Casa Tirieux to start the New Year. Now we enter February -- I've been eating in the Olive Garden a couple of times in the past 30 days -- you know it's awful -- with the Spurs losing that heartbreaker to the Thunder and the Derek Fisher last-second dagger.

Luckily, we began the month, and the annual Rodeo Trip, with a huge win over the Blazers at the Rose Garden -- Manu Ginobili couldn't be stopped. Two days later, we saw the return of the Spurs to the Staples Center to face the Lakers. The fans were stoked and the game went back and forth for four quarters until, as I said, Fisher defeated the shotclock with only a second left for the win. 0.4, anyone? Then Manu, Corey Maggette and Tony Parker stepped up to beat Tyreke Evans and the Kings at Sac-Town. As America's attention toward Arlington, Texas was growing, even my mother took a moment to find out which team would have more chances to win the Lombardi Trophy; the Green Bay Packers defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers, 31-25, and even fantastic NBA action in a battle between Boston and Orlando couldn't soothe the pain of post-Super Bowl depression.

Two easy wins at Detroit and Toronto followed, before blowing (sorry if a hurt any Philly fans) a GUARANTEED WIN on February 11 against the 76ers, who won with an Evan Turner on fire and Andre Iguodala as a superb sidekick. We then triggered our second losing streak in three weeks, losing an incredible fourth quarter to the Wizards at the nation's capital. The Silver & Black didn't struggle in the games that straddled the All-Star break: double-digit victories over the Nets and Bulls. The mid-season stretch was even better, as Tiago Splitter helped the Rookies beat the Sophs for the second year in a row. The West then murdered the East in the main event on Sunday. Back on the Spurs, we would take a small step back with the loss against the Thunder. Two days later, we got three players over 18 points to beat the new-look Nets. To close out the month, and before a sold-out AT&T Center crowd, we defeated the reborn Memphis Grizzlies. The playoffs are a very real future, but things can only get better in March with two clashes of titans against the Heat.

    Image
2011, February 9 – Gary Neal @ Toronto Raptors: The scene repeated itself often. Gary Neal would make a jumper, then have a high five with his fellow rookie Tiago Splitter. It's their customary celebration. It's also become customary to see teams do that sort of thing when visiting the Toronto Raptors. Neal scored 17 points in the second half, staying perfect from the field, Tony Parker finished with 12 points, seven rebounds and tied his career-high of 15 assists as six Spurs reached double figures in San Antonio's 119-105 victory. Splitter had 11 points, five rebounds and three blocks, and Corey Maggette and Manu Ginobili scored 15 apiece for San Antonio, which swept the season series against Toronto, 2-0. The Spurs improved to a impressive 31-6 when scoring at least 100 points. “A lot of people are questioning us and underestimating our ability to go out there and perform constantly at a high level, but we continue to prove doubters wrong,” Maggette said. “We're going to go out there and leave it all on the court and just get better on the fly.” (Read More ... )

2011, February 23 - Tim Duncan vs. Oklahoma City Thunder: The Oklahoma City Thunder felt fortunate to get the victory. Kevin Durant had 31 points and Russell Westbrook made a go-ahead jumper with 3.3 seconds left to rally the Thunder past the San Antonio Spurs, 106-104. San Antonio's Tony Parker was told not to switch off Westbrook and cover Durant during a timeout before the decisive play, with the score tied at 104. But Parker did, allowing Westbrook to make a wide-open jumper to give Oklahoma City the lead. Manu Ginobili missed a potential game-tying shot at the buzzer. Westbrook finished the game with 25 points, 14 assists and three steals, but seven turnovers. (...) Tim Duncan had 27 points, 10 boards and five blocks for the Spurs, with zero turnovers. (Read More ... )

2011, February 27 - Corey Maggette vs. Memphis Grizzlies: After allowing their last two opponents score over 100 points -- a win and a loss, and both by 4 points or less -- the San Antonio Spurs expected a a low-scoring game from Memphis, specially after a 24-point win in December. When that plan failed, the Spurs enjoyed an opportunity to change their style. Corey Maggette scored 23 points, Larry Hughes set a season-high with 19 off the bench, and Tim Duncan entered the time machine as the Spurs withstood the Grizzlies' 3-point barrage to win the game, 122-112. Memphis lost despite shooting an acceptable 48 percent from the field and an impressive 62 percent from beyond the arc (10-of-16). “The way they were on fire tonight, you have to run it right back at them. That was what we were doing,” Hughes said. “We've been a pretty good defensive team last month, but now we are on a small problematic lapse, I'd say. We are suffering way too many points, we have to work on that.” (...) Duncan had 3 of the 10 blocks, including 22 points and eight rebounds. Maggette said he realized he just repeated a feat he accomplished on January 22: score at least 20 points and stay perfect from the field. Maggs scored 23 points and shot 7-of-7 from the field, including a 3-pointer and 8-of-8 from the charity stripe. (Read More ... )

    Image
2011, February 8 - Spurs ride combined +80 from Maggette, Duncan, Blair @ Detroit Pistons: Tim Duncan has the San Antonio Spurs off and running: Timmy D (+25) led a first-half explosion as the Spurs posted a statement for the rest of the league in a 114-85 victory over the Detroit Pistons. Duncan collected 18 points, 14 rebounds and four blocks for San Antonio's second straight spectacular win, as they were coming a 118-93 win at Sacramento. In the first half, he had 10 points, seven boards and three rejections as the Spurs put together three huge runs and bolted to a 59-35 lead at halftime. Corey Maggette (+28) scored 14 of his 20 before intermission for San Antonio. “More or less, we've been waiting for this to happen,” Maggette said. “If we can continue to chain games like this past couple, a lot of teams are gonna have a long, long season.” Maggette was visibly happy. The Spurs began the night with a 13-2 spurt, took the lead for good with a 15-5 surge in the first moments of the second quarter and broke it open with a 10-1 spree midway through the same period. “When we're all going well, we're tough to stop,” Duncan said. “Everyone down the line winds up getting open shots, it was an easy victory.” (...) The Spurs closed the night with consecutive fastbreak dunks (by Maggette and DeJuan Blair). Rookie James Anderson finished the game with 12 points, while Blair (+27) added a double-double with 11 points and ten rebounds. (Read More ... )

2011, February 17 - Five Spurs score over 11 points in double-digit lead triumph @ Chicago Bulls: The sadists from San Antonio love this stuff -- they live for it. They eagerly await the annual habit of being kicked out of the AT&T Center for nine straight games. They take great pride in games like this, where they somehow manage to had twice as many turnovers, less steals and less second chance points than their opponent and still pull out an ugly win. They don't even seem to mind the rising chorus of laughter leaguewide about their team age. On this resurrection, they were volunteering their own jokes. “Everybody's young to me,” Tony Parker said when asked about teenage counterpart Derrick Rose. “I'm like 40 at this moment,” he joked. Parker scored 16 points and added six assists for San Antonio, which 107-96 victory over the Chicago Bulls required to overturn a five-point deficit in the second quarter, to then lead by 20 in the third and survive the usual slew of late clutch buckets from other teams and overcome an afternoon of throwing the ball all over the building. No wonder Tim Duncan, who posted his fourth double-double in the last six games (12 points, 12 boards, three rejections), said: “This is the kind of game that may count for more than one win in the W column.” The 2011 Rodeo Trip, that finished today, was the 8th installment of an extended hiatus every winter that this year, called the Spurs to go 20 days without playing a game on their home floor. But historically this trip triggers the second-half surge that snaps the Spurs into contender mode. (Read More ... )

2011, February 25 - Four Spurs over 17 points ignite win vs. New Jersey Nets: The two small forwards wanted to guard each other in the final moments -- Carmelo Anthony on Corey Maggette and vice-versa. It had to end like that. “I didn't even ask,” Maggette said. “I just told Manu to go somewhere else.” Maggette scored 18 points and grabbed five rebounds to help the San Antonio Spurs to a 108-104 victory over the new-look New Jersey Nets. The Spurs (41-17) moved 1 and a half games behind the Lakers (43-16) in the race for the West's best record. “It's an important win for us,” said Manu Ginobili, who was guarding Anthony in the third quarter but moved to Anthony Morrow in the fourth. “We need to be a great team at home to have a better seed for the playoffs.” Ginobili scored 19 points, four assists and eight rebounds. Tim Duncan had 19 points and nine rebounds staying perfect from the field (8-of-8 field goals), dominating in the first half, scoring 12 points on 6-of-6 shooting as the Spurs built a 56-54 advantage. San Antonio increased its lead to 14 points in the third quarter before a 14-2 run helped New Jersey pull within 68-66. Morrow hit three consecutive jumpers in the spurt, ending the night with 11 points. (Read More ... )

Wall leads the rookies in points per game (17.6 ppg), in assists (5.7 apg) and in steals (1.9 spg), and had two double-doubles: on February 12, against San Antonio, Wall had 16 points and a career-high 16 assists; and on February 18, in the Rookie Challenge, helped the Rooks defeat the Sophs with 17 points and 10 assists. He also scored a then career-high 27 points on February 9, in a 106-88 win over Milwaukee, to break it with 28 points on February 16, in a loss at Orlando, to go with four rebounds and four assists. The Wizards are battling for the 8th seed in the East with a 29-30 record.

Well, if it goes well, making some calculations... This will keep going even if 2k12 comes out. It's almost four months since this started and I'm on 60 games. :cheeky:

Thanks man, still gotta catch up the Lakers. I have another two games against them, must-win contests.

Later -- part 3!

Shadow'S right, but it's looking nasty, nice graphical skills as always. (oh it's made by justine :) )

Apart from that, I did not know Ginobili has this ` on his ó. Quite cool, you know what, I'm learning spanish right now. They say that you Argentinians are even easier to understand than the Spaniards.

Es una temporada muy buena para los Spurs. Vamos a los Playoffs y presidemos los Lakers ;)

Props to Justine for the playoff tree, I tried to do one but it looked very bad. And yes, Manu is the only Argentinian with an accent in his name, the others don't have one (Nocioni, Delfino, Oberto, Scola, Herrmann...) Nice to hear you're learning Spanish man! (Y) (Y)

We are on March already!

As all of you know, you can't say "March" without saying "Madness". So get ready for the last couple of NCAA recaps and then the NCAA Tournament Bracket for the Sweet 16, Elite 8, Final 4 and the Tournament Final! :cheeky:
