Another solid game from me + the game winner (Y)

I reckon we (Tar Heels) can make a solid run this year to the final four and possibility the NCAA Championship. Lets hope I don't jinx myself

Same opinion on the Dyess situation here

Weekly Rewind N° 15 • Nate Robinson reborn, Lou Williams out?, injury report and more...
    nba.com/spurs/morningcoffee | February 6th, 2011

    Image
SAN ANTONIO -- Welcome to the latest installment of my “Morning Coffee” blog, Spurs fanatics. I have some more tidbits here in the table for us to discuss. I'm doing a weekly report with things that happened around the league, including: in my opinion, the most interesting game of the week; signings & waivings; POTW honors; Power Rankings; injury report; All-Star voting and trading rumors. Hope you join the discussion!

Krypto-Nate finds new life in Memphis; leads Grizz to win over Cavs • Cleveland coach Byron Scott wanted Nate Robinson out of the lane. Instead, Scott got thrown out the game and it was all Memphis from there. Robinson scored 23 points, and the Memphis Grizzlies broke open a close game after Scott was ejected to beat the Cleveland Cavaliers, 91-82. O.J. Mayo added 19 points for the Grizzlies, who seized control immediately after Scott was tossed in the second minute of the third quarter when he came onto the floor to argue with referees that Robinson should have been called for a traveling. It was unclear if Scott made contact with the official before he was thrown out, though he said he didn't. Antawn Jamison led Cleveland with 19 points and eight rebounds. Zach Randolph and Marc Gasol added double-doubles for Memphis: the former Blazer had 14 points and ten boards, and the Spaniard scored 10 points and 11 boards. “Nate stepped up in a huge way,” Grizzlies coach Lionel Hollins said. “He made the shots and he can get to the basket.” Robinson shot 8-of-10 from the field, including 4-of-5 from 3-point land.

Louis Williams done with Philadelphia? • Despite a scheduled meeting set for Monday with 76ers officials that will include general manager Ed Stefanski and head coach Doug Collins, Louis Williams and his agent continue to move forward with an exit strategy for Lou. A source close to Williams said he has not yet formally told the Sixers to trade him, but he plans to inform them next week he would be willing to play elsewhere if they cannot accommodate his wishes to improve the roster. With speculation intensifying, Stefanski said the team has no plans to trade Williams. However, there's interest from various teams that could seek to obtain Williams in a trade. According to league sources. It could be difficult for Stefanski to convince Williams they are serious about winning in the coming years.

Players of the Week • The Chicago Bulls' Derrick Rose and the Los Angeles Lakers' Kobe Bryant today were named the Eastern and Western Conference Players of the Week, respectively, for games played January 30 - February 5. Rose and the Bulls had a 2-0 week -- with wins over the LA Clippers and Golden State. In a 102-80 win over the Clippers, Rose scored 49 points, nine assists and shot an incredible 20-of-27 from the field. Three days later, he posted 34 points and 10 assists in a 104-86 win against the Warriors. Rose finished the week with averages of 41.5 points and 9.5 assists. Los Angeles' Bryant averaged 32.2 points along with 5.0 rebounds and 4.2 assists, as the Lakers posted a 3-1 week; Kobe scored 45 points, grabbed 5 boards and had 5 assists in a 112-110 win over San Antonio.

Power RankingsBest teams of the week? Dallas (4-0), Utah (4-1), LA Lakers (3-1), Miami (3-1), Milwaukee (3-1), Orlando (3-1). The worst? Charlotte (0-4), LA Clippers (0-3), Golden State (0-3), Cleveland (1-4), Washington (1-3), Detroit (1-3). High jumps -- Denver (+5), Portland (+5), New Jersey (+5), Milwaukee (+3), Dallas (+2), Chicago (+2). Free falls -- Washington (-6), Phoenix (-5), Oklahoma City (-4), Boston (-3), Charlotte (-3), Memphis (-3). Check the power rankings (Top 7) here -- the Heat continue on the 2nd spot.

Injury report • Sorted by injuries with most duration, here you can check the full injury report. Detroit Pistons rookie Greg Monroe's index finger on his right hand was broken during the Pistons' loss against New Jersey, on February 4. Monroe can play through the injury but its very likely that coach Hugh Wilks will keep him off the scrimmages. New Orleans Hornets star Chris Paul sprained right wrist kept him out of the Hornets' loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder on February 2. A MRI on the wrist was negative; Paul is listed as day-to-day and plans to make the trip to New Jersey on February 9.

All-Star Voting • The 2011 NBA All-Star Ballot was unveiled on November 18th, during a special tip-off event in Los Angeles, the Official Host City of NBA All-Star 2011, and All-Star Balloting began on November 25th at 3 p.m. ET. The 60th NBA All-Star Game, which will air live on TNT and ESPN Radio in the U.S., and reach fans in more than 200 countries and territories in more than 40 languages, will be played at STAPLES Center on Sunday, Feb. 20, 2011. NBA All-Star 2011 in Los Angeles will bring together some of the most talented and passionate players in the league’s history for a global celebration of the game. Los Angeles and the STAPLES Center will host NBA All-Star 2011, marking the fifth time The City of Angels and the second time STAPLES Center will be the site of the annual celebration. Thanks guys... Dice had some solid games with double-doubles when either Duncan or Blair were injured, but lately he has been struggling terribly. As I said, if I go ahead with the trade, it will be on the deadline, so I'm hoping he can prove himself this last two weeks.

Spurs ride combined +80 from Maggette, Duncan, Blair; sprint past Pistons
Preview | Recap | Game Info | Full Play-by-Play | Boxscores (SAS :: DET)

DETROIT, February 8 -- Tim Duncan has the San Antonio Spurs off and running: Timmy D (+25) led a first-half explosion as the Spurs posted a statement for the rest of the league in a 114-85 victory over the Detroit Pistons. Duncan collected 18 points, 14 rebounds and four blocks for San Antonio's second straight spectacular win, as they were coming a 118-93 win at Sacramento. In the first half, he had 10 points, seven boards and three rejections as the Spurs put together three huge runs and bolted to a 59-35 lead at halftime. Corey Maggette (+28) scored 14 of his 20 before intermission for San Antonio. “More or less, we've been waiting for this to happen,” Maggette said. “If we can continue to chain games like this past couple, a lot of teams are gonna have a long, long season.” Maggette was visibly happy. The Spurs began the night with a 13-2 spurt, took the lead for good with a 15-5 surge in the first moments of the second quarter and broke it open with a 10-1 spree midway through the same period. “When we're all going well, we're tough to stop,” Duncan said. “Everyone down the line winds up getting open shots, it was an easy victory.” Detroit was outrebounded 51-33, and their reserves lost to San Antonio's, 42-25.

In the first half, the Spurs shot an impressive 61 percent (19-of-31) from the field, including 90 percent from the charity stripe (18-of-20), collecting 13 assists in the process. “The first half was carried over from the game at Sac-Town,” said Manu Ginobili, who scored 15 points and four assists. “I think we now understand the energy we need to have. We shared the ball, we had uncontested shots. We need to play like this night in, night out.” Ginobili accounted for all of the points in the second half -- he remained scoreless in the first half, but had 10 points in the third quarter as San Antonio built a 71-56 advantage with 6:45 left in that quarter, as the Pistons had a 15-5 run of their own to reduce the deficit for a while. Already in the fourth quarter, the Pistons started to launch ill-advised shots and Maggette had an And-1 and two assists and Duncan had three easy baskets in a 16-6 run that made it 100-81 with 5:21 left in the game. The Spurs closed the night with consecutive fastbreak dunks (by Maggette and DeJuan Blair). Rookie James Anderson finished the game with 12 points, while Blair (+27) added a double-double with 11 points and ten rebounds.

“There was only one team on the court today, end of story,” Pistons head coach Hugh Wilks said. “They drilled everything and we didn't defend them and off they went. We weren't ready to play. I can't make it any more clear.” San Antonio had 32 of 58 points in the paint in the opening half, when Detroit shot just 33 percent (13-of-39) from the floor. Maggette did not stick around looking for three more rebounds and his first double-double of the season, taking a seat with the rest of the starters at the start of the final period and laughing it up with his teammates. Tayshaun Prince made 9-of-17 shots and scored 21 points to lead Detroit, who despite the huge loss, only had 5 turnovers -- blame the Spurs' effectiveness from the field and free throw line. The Spurs now have won two in a row and three of their last four. “Everything looked very different,” Tiago Splitter said. “We're making it easier for ourselves because we're going out and playing as a unit.” Splitter contributed with 14 points and nine rebounds, as the entire fourth quarter was garbage time with the Spurs leading by as many as 32. Will Bynum scored 19 points for the Pistons, to go with nine assists. Carl Landry was suffocated by Blair and Duncan's defense and only scored 6 points in 21 minutes, shooting 2-of-8 from the field for the Pistons, who have lost four of their last five games.

Yeah he goes Hulk mode against me. But there were some stupid POTW in past weeks (like a player with good averages, but his team goes 0-4) so I'm gonna choose them starting from next season. For example, a few weeks ago, Golden State's Ellis had a nice week but the Warriors went 1-3, that same week Jason Kidd posted back-to-back triple doubles. I'm not saying Kobe's was stupid, it was spot on

    The Alex Blevessi Sweepstakes
    nba.com/spurs/beat | February 9th, 2011

SAN ANTONIO -- We don't care what anyone says, but a fair chunk of the league would not mind being terrible this year, with players like Alex Blevessi, Andrew Ferguson, Scott Ross, Predrag Rodic and others at the top of a really promising draft board. Think about Tim Duncan -- the right player fills the stands, brings championships and new arenas, and makes everyone in the organization look like a mastermind. So, who's winning that battle? The worst teams in the NBA (from these standings), with their winning percentages are...

      Cleveland -- .308
      Toronto -- .308
      LA Clippers -- .314
      Golden State -- .340
      Minnesota -- .353
      Detroit -- .365
      Charlotte -- .373
      Philadelphia -- .373
      Phoenix -- .449
      Milwaukee -- .451
LET'S GO CAVS / RAPS! We'd keep going down the list, you know, the season still has 30 games left, and there are still many contenders, but if we went much further we'd be listing teams that are atop their divisions, and that just seemed wrong. You heard those Michael Beasley / Derrick Favors are going to be traded rumors? It has always struck us as odd, even with Favors-to-Denver reports floating for months. They were picked 2nd and 3rd overall in their respective drafts, but how can a player leave a team after so little time in there? Beasley was acquired from Miami by the Wolves last July, while Favors was drafted by New Jersey in June.

Even Brandon Jennings got into trade rumors. But maybe it makes more sense on a team with an excellent shot at a young replacement, maybe Jennings, Beasley or Favors will bring some nice complimentary pieces in a deal. Let's be honest, other than drafting Mr. Fundamental, there's no safe way to build a great team -- those are the kinds of gambles you have to take. Also, it's interesting that five 76ers were reported to be in the trading block. If they do land Blevessi, they'll surely be more valuable in the years to come. Last note -- anyone notice how Phoenix's year started out well (at 3-1, a huge win over the Spurs), and then just kind of tanked? They had an 1-9 run in December and now have a 22-27 record. If they get the lucky charm, and land a top five pick (we really don't see them in the playoffs) it's going to be gold.

Parker's triple-double flirt, Neal's second half explosion lead Spurs over Raptors
Preview | Recap | Game Info | Full Play-by-Play | Boxscores (SAS :: TOR)

TORONTO, February 9 -- The scene repeated itself often. Gary Neal would make a jumper, then have a high five with his fellow rookie Tiago Splitter. It's their customary celebration. It's also become customary to see teams do that sort of thing when visiting the Toronto Raptors. Neal scored 17 points in the second half, staying perfect from the field, Tony Parker finished with 12 points, seven rebounds and tied his career-high of 15 assists as six Spurs reached double figures in San Antonio's 119-105 victory. Splitter had 11 points, five rebounds and three blocks, and Corey Maggette and Manu Ginobili scored 15 apiece for San Antonio, which swept the season series against Toronto, 2-0. The Spurs improved to a impressive 31-6 when scoring at least 100 points. “A lot of people are questioning us and underestimating our ability to go out there and perform constantly at a high level, but we continue to prove doubters wrong,” Maggette said. “We're going to go out there and leave it all on the court and just get better on the fly.”

Leandro Barbosa scored 29 points for Toronto, which lost for the fourth time in the last five games and is one of only four teams to have a losing record at home. “I'm beyond disappointed in our team,” Raptors coach Jay Triano said. Only Philadelphia and the LA Clippers have a worse home record. “We really can't explain it,” said Raptors forward Linas Kleiza. Kleiza finished with 23 points and five rebounds and DeMar DeRozan had 22 for Toronto, dropping to 16-37 with this loss; Barbosa, Kleiza and DeRozan were the only three Raptors in double figures. José Calderón finished with only 7 points on 3-for-8 shooting in 27 minutes. “There's no excuses,” Triano added. “There are none. I have none. The players should have none, tonight, we didn't even try.” Toronto got within five points three occassions -- on scores by Kleiza every time -- in the last four minutes of the third quarter, only to see San Antonio answer before the margin got smaller. And eventually, the Spurs put Toronto down for the coup de grâce in the fourth. Neal, who entered with 15 points in his last four games, delivered the dagger with 5:33 left -- a long 3-pointer, his fifth of the night, that made it 105-91; the Raps didn't get closer than 14 points after that. “I get so pumped up when everyone is playing well and making their shots,” Parker said. “It's a great feeling. We've just got to have that chip on our shoulder.”

San Antonio led for all but a minute of the opening half, taking a 61-49 lead into the break after Ginobili scored 10 points, including an early show from 3-point range, two in a row. Maggette then scored the first eight points of the second half during a 50-second span of the third quarter, staking the Spurs to a 69-49 lead, including a vicious dunk over David Andersen. So Triano went small -- very small -- with a lineup of Marcus Banks, Jarrett Jack, Barbosa, Julian Wright and Reggie Evans. It worked. An 13-1 run immediately drew Toronto within eight points, and the Raps later closed the gap to 75-70 after a trey by Calderón. Then Matt Bonner took over for the next minutes, giving Toronto fans a taste of what they used to cheer him for before he left in the trade that brought Rasho Nesterovic to Canada. He scored 8 points in a 12-2 Spurs run that rebuilt the lead back to 93-78. “We let a couple of leads slip away, but we stayed with it, we stayed confident, our defense was excellent when it needed to be,” Bonner said. “When they made some runs we stayed poised and we had our own runs. That's the sign of a team going in the right direction.” And in Toronto's case, the opposite seems to be ringing true: they were outrebounded 42-40, the Spurs bench scored 61 points and San Antonio shot an impressive 63 percent from 3-point land (14-of-22).

Nasty jam? Check the one Maggette had over Andersen. :cheeky:

Not calling Kobe stupid. I'm calling stupid some of the CPU's POTW awards. So I'm gonna choose them next season. As I said, can't believe Kidd didn't get one with consecutive triple-doubles.

Martti. wrote:You are winning, but doing it in a boring way. 7 guys score 10+ points, and scoring 22 is a scoring outburst.

Just messing around, keep it up. 31 games to go, get there faster.

In a boring way? I LOVE how I can get double figures with half of my roster :) Might mess a little with the sliders; the CPU always gets less free throws than me.

Spurs @ Sixers coming soon.

Dang! Gary Neal with 5 3-pointers  I'm sure TP is loving that inner-Stockton feeling right now  Nice win, even though the raptors got completely shutdown this game! (Y)

There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old's life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged.
One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world.
The other, of course, involves orcs.” — John Rogers

Miami's LeBron James is top vote-getter among All-Star Game starters

SAN ANTONIO -- Through the 2011 NBA All-Star Balloting program, fans worldwide were responsible for voting in the starters for the 2011 NBA All-Star Game, which is only 10 days away; it will be played in Los Angeles on Sunday, February 20. The game will air live on TNT, ESPN Radio and in more than 200 countries and territories. Head coaches in each conference voted to determine the remaining All-Stars in their respective conference. Through the Balloting program, which ran from last November through last Monday, fans had the opportunity to vote at all NBA arenas or in 20 languages on NBA.com. Fans also were able to vote at several locations in Los Angeles, the host city of NBA All-Star 2011. Sprite is the presenting partner of this year's NBA All-Star Balloting program; other All-Star Balloting partners include 2K Sports, XBOX and Marvel Comics. NBA All-Star 2011 is a week-long celebration that enables fans to experience the thrill of the world’s greatest athletes playing the game they love and features a full slate of community-enhancing activities and fan festivals such as NBA All-Star Jam Session presented by adidas. San Antonio Spurs' head coach Gregg Popovich and the Spurs coaching staff earned the honor to coach the West as a result of their 119-105 win over Toronto last night, combined with the Lakers' 114-105 loss to Boston. Miami's Erik Spoelstra and the Heat coaching staff will coach the East.

Miami Heat forward LeBron James led all players in votes received in the NBA All-Star Balloting program that determines starters for the 2011 NBA All-Star Game. James received 2,615,089 votes, for his 7th appearance. Along with James, Heat teammate Dwyane Wade secured one starting spot with 2,225,140 votes, getting his 7th appareance as well, and Chicago Bulls' Derrick Rose, with 1,498,507 votes, edged Boston Celtics' Rajon Rondo, who received 1,362,911 votes. Rose will enjoy his 2nd appearance. Orlando Magic's Dwight Howard, with 1,637,515 votes, was selected to his 5th All-Star team, but suffered a torn meniscus last week and won't be able to participate. New Jersey Nets' Brook Lopez was selected as his replacement by NBA Commissioner David Stern; Lopez also topped the 1,000,000 votes mark with 1,038,332 and will make his All-Star debut. James and Lopez will be joined in the Eastern Conference frontcourt by New York Knicks' Amar'e Stoudemire, who will be making his 6th All-Star appearance after receiving 1,601,029 votes.

Los Angeles Lakers' Kobe Bryant finished second receiving 2,236,539 votes. Joining Bryant as part of the Western Conference starting lineup is Utah Jazz's Deron Williams, with 1,910,387 votes; Stern selected Williams to replace New Orleans Hornets' Chris Paul, who won't be able to take part in the game as he is suffering a sprained wrist. Paul received 1,924,777 votes, edging Williams by only 14,000 votes. The starting forwards for the West are Denver Nuggets' Carmelo Anthony, with 1,888,121 votes, who will be appearing in his 4th All-Star Game, and Oklahoma City Thunder's Kevin Durant, who will appear for the 2nd time, with 1,627,573 votes. Starting at center, Houston Rockets' Yao Ming will be making his 8th appearance after receiving 1,276,894 votes.

In selecting the reserves, the head coaches voted for seven players, including two guards, two forwards, a center and two players regardless of position. Coaches were not permitted to vote for players on their team. First-time All-Star selections, Atlanta Hawks' Josh Smith and Milwaukee Bucks' Andrew Bogut are joined by fellow first-time selection Stephen Jackson of the Charlotte Bobcats, along with Rondo, Joe Johnson of the Atlanta Hawks (5th appearance), Danny Granger of the Indiana Pacers (2nd appearance) and the Orlando Magic's Vince Carter (9th appearance). The West reserves feature Durant's Thunder teammate Russell Westbrook, for his first appearance; Brandon Roy of the Portland Trail Blazers, in his 4th appearance; Dallas Mavericks' Dirk Nowitzki, in his 10th appearance; former New Jersey Net, recently acquired by Houston, Terrence Williams and New Orleans Hornets' Emeka Okafor as debutants; Los Angeles Clippers' Baron Davis, in his 3rd appearance; and San Antonio's Tim Duncan in his 13th appearance. Duncan has been selected to every All-Star team since he entered the league in 1997.

The rosters of both the Eastern and Western Conference for the 2011 NBA All-Star Game are attached:

Thanks man! The problem is, he's not very consistent. One game he goes 0-of-6 but then he goes 6-of-6, but I love when he plays like this :cheeky:

They have the worst record man. At least you are on the race for the Swiss guy.

Didn't play the game at Sixers yet, wanted to post the ASG rosters first.

Too bad you only got one all-star. Interesting to see Captain Jack, T-Will and the Brooke Shields of big men make it though.

At least there will be a Spur in the main event. And I didn't post the participants for the other ASW events yet. I have a feeling there will be more Spurs around.
