Hornets back to winning ways over Shaq and Wade's Heat
17th December 2006
(13-9) NOK @ MIA (14-9)

Image 75-80 Image

After suffering two straight defeats, loosing was not an option for the travelling Hornets. But the Miami Haet are no push-overs and after suffering a 37 point blowout last time the teams met, winning was not the only thing on the line in this game.
Carlos Boozer was the highest scoring player on the court wih 19 buckets. He also puled dwon 7 rebounds after all-round good defensive work by his Hornets teammates. Boozer again shot 100% from the field, proving to be an absolutely illustrious signing. "When I'm on the court, I dont think about percentages, statistics, money, fame; I just play basketball - what I was bought in to do".
Dwyane Wade, who got 34 points and 16 assists last encounter was kept quite. New Orleans came into the game planning to double up on Wade whenever he got the ball, they did just that, resulting in Dwyane getting 13 points, 3 rebounds and 7 assists. The Heat's high point man was Small-Forward Antoine Walker. With 15 points he helped his Miami team close out a 9 point deficit in the fourth quarter.
Chris Paul didn't have the best personal performance, with 14 points and 7 assists, the whole basketball world knows the Point-Guard out of Wake Forest can give more. "What matters is the team won. One man isn't a team." The statement that really sums up the attitude in the New Orleans camp after they got back to winning ways in Miami.

Player Of The Game - Carlos Boozer - 19pts, 7rebs, 100% FG

Pauls' Triple-Double leads Hornets to an Orlando Wipe-Out
19th December 2006
(14-9) NOK @ ORL (11-15)

Image 75-108 Image

Chris Paul attained his first triple-double of the season and only the second of the whole 06/07 Campaign. Paul posted 36 points, 10 assists and 10 steals. "I'm real happy with my performance tonight, another win for the team, we're coming up strong" The Hornets now move up to a 15-9 record and depending on how the Mavericks do tomorrow night, could move up to 2cnd in the Southwest Divison.
The game looked to be over even after the first quarter. The score going into the the second was 28-9. The Magic shot 18% whilst the Hornets posted a 89%. Dwight Howard had an off-night only getting 14 points and 13 rebounds but he led the fightback as normal. Carlos Boozer did an excellent job guarding the young superstar and go points against him as well. Boozer notched up 9 points, 12 rebounds and 3 blocks.
Because the Hornets had such a great first half and were leading by 29 points, the starting five all parked on the bench for the 3rd, and most of the 4th quarter. Rasual Butler again had a good performance with 19 points and 3 rebounds and may be awarded his first start of the season in New Orleans' next game against the Memphis Grizzlies. Jannero Pargo did some nice plays and Cedric Simmons produced an array of amazing dunks, including a reverse slam on Milicic. They say theres strength in numbers, and the Hornets numbers are more than capable.

Hornets Come Strong in Over-Time After Memphis Hit Last Second Three
23rd Decemeber 2006
(12-14) MEM @ NOK (15-9)

Image 91-83 OT Image

Rasual Butler was awarded his first start for the New Orleans Hornets last night, after his hard work in training and good, solid performances off the bench, Butler's stats were hard to ignore and he took the starting position of Small-Forward Peja Stojakovic. Butler couldn't have feared for a worse start. 10 seconds into the game he was involved in a collision with Rudy Gay and he was holding his knee whilst lying on the floor. Rasual limped off and on came Stojakovic.
Stojakovic was the high-point man on the Hornets team with 19 buckets. It was later revealed that Rasual Butler was close to a dislocated knee cap. However, he was cleared to play again but soreness kept him out. Chris Paul got 18 points following good shooting from beyond the arc and had 7 assists.
Eddie Jones had an excellent night for his Memphis team, he poured in 24 points as well as hitting the equalising basket with a second to go to send the game inot Over-Time. Pau Gasol wasn't as effective as his normal self but did still get 12 points, 6 rebounds and an assist.
Strong Over-Time play allowed New Orleans to snap up the win following high-tempo pace which the Grizzlies couldn't keep up with. A few spectacualr jams home were converted by Carlos Boozer who got 9 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists on the night.

Hornets Interested in Kapono

The New Orleans Hornets today announced their interest in current Miami Heat Small-Forward Jason Kapono. "Kapono is an excellent shooter - probably the best in the NBA and his stats reflect that, there is no doubt we would love to have him here but nothing is set in stone." With Rasual Butler and Peja Stojakovic already occupying the Small-Forwards role, its hard to see what the future holds for all of these players if Kapono is bought to New Orleans. "Rasual and Peja are both great players, but it was clear that if one of them gets injured, which Rasual unfortunately did last night, we struggle for options. Peja was my only back-up."
With the next game tonight at the Heat, will Kapono have signed his name for the Hornets? A witness says he saw Kapono head into the New Orleans building earlier this morning.
Could Kapono become a Hornet?

Hornets Sign Kapono

Jason Kapono, former Miami Heat Small-Forward has signed on with the New Orleans Hornets in a rade deal. The deal saw Power-Forward Brandon Bass and Guard CJ Miles - involved in the deal with the Utah Jazz - head to Miami whilst Kapono is currently gearing up for tonights game with the Spurs in a Hornets Jersey.
"We are very happy to have him on board. He is dynamite from long range and thats what we have been lacking. Many times already this season we have failed to hit vital three pointers at vital times - if Kapono can't hit them, I don't know who can. He will most likely start tonight."

Kapono hits 29 on debut, Hornets get monumental victory over Spurs
23rd December 2006
(17-10) SAS @ NOK (16-9)

Image 75-67 Image

Jason Kapono couldn't have hoped for a better debut performance dropping 29 points in his first match for the New Orleans Hornets. Kapono hit three three-pointers and pulled down 4 rebounds and seems he is already a fan favourite. Kopono started the match at the Small-Forward spot ahead of Peja Stojakovic and Rasual Butler - who is still out injured.
Argentinian Manu Ginobili gave the lift the Spurs needed with 18 points, but in the end it wasn't enough. The Hornets pulled off to a 11-0 run late in the third and San Antonio never found an answer.
Another plus point for New Orleans was the magnificent performance of their Center Tyson Chandler. Chandler started off very well and got the fans off their seats. Chandler got 11 points, 6 rebounds and 8 blocks in the game, really stepped it up on the defensive end. Carlos Boozer also had a good game pulling down 14 important rebounds.
Tim Duncan got 15 rebounds by the end of the night but was dissapointing on the offensive end with a 34% Field Goal Percentage. Duncan only sunk 8 points. Tony Parker, like Kapono was dynamite from the three point line and handed out 4 assists as well. Parker finished up with 10 baskets.

Lethal Trio: Paul, Boozer & Chandler Combine For Win In Seattle
26th December 2006
(17-9) NOK @ SEA (17-11)

Image 98-79 Image

Coming into the game, New Orleans knew they would have to deal with Rashard Lewis and Ray Allen, both are in fine form as of late for their Sonics team. But the Hornets answered with their own lethal combination - Carlos Boozer, Tyson Chandler and Chris Paul. Together, they combined for 73 points, 24 rebounds and 21 assists.
Chris Paul shot excellently in the first quarter, nailing jumpers off the dribble to silence the home crowd. Paul finished with 30 points and 12 assists.
New Orleans survived Ray Allen's 36 points and 78% from the three point line. Allen shot like a superstar, bringing back memorys of Larry Bird and Reggie Miller - Allen is right up there with both of them. Unfortunately, Allen was only 1 of 2 players to get into double digits in the scoring margin, Rashard Lewis being the other with 11.
Carlos Boozer and Tyson Chandler put on a clinic in the art of defensive teamwork. Chandler got 7 blocks whilst Boozer pulled down 14 rebounds. Boozer's stats at the end of the night were 21 points, 14 rebounds and 5 assists whilst his fellow giant added 22 points, 8 boards and 3 dishes.

Hornets Defeat Trailblazers in Portland and Top Southwest Divison
27th December 2006
(18-9) NOK @ POR (10-18)

Image 83-71 Image

After loosing twice in three days at the hands of their Southwest Divison rivals the Dallas Mavericks and the San Antonio Spurs, who knew the Hornets would respond this way. The win over Portland increased the New Orleans win streak to 5 consecutive, and they topped the Southwest divison for the first time this season. Chris Paul has had a major role in the campaign and did agin last night, with 36 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists.
Zach Randolph, the Trailblazers Power-Forward knew he would have to play well if the 10-18 Portland were going to have any chance of winning, he did his bit with a bouble-double consisting of 14 points and 12 rebounds but the rest of his players didn't respond to his effort. Brand Roy got just 4 points and 4 assists whilst Jamaal Magloire posted 11 points and 6 rebounds. Not the performance the home team payed their money to see.
Kareem Rush had one of his best performances for the Hornets with 13 points, 3 rebounds and 3 assists. Rush was excellent on the fastbreak and was the main reason why Roy only converted 4 points due to his good defensive work.

Big Match Countdown: New Orleans Hornets @ Denver Nuggets

The 2cnd and third best teams in the NBA go head-to-head in two nights time in Denver, Colorado. It is sure to be a truly titanic battle, with the Nuggets on a 7-0 win streak and the Hornets on a 5-0 win streak neither team is going to give an inch.
Its not often you hear this said, but the Hornets are outclassed beyond the arc. Since adding Allen Iverson to the backcourt, the Nuggets have well & truly been unstoppable, they haven't lost a game. The Iverson and Anthony combination that everyone feared has wreaked havoc among the NBA and New Orleans are going to have to slow them down, but stopping one is a huge task alone. When Denver and Iverson agreed terms and signed on the dotted line, Anhony was suspended because of his brawl with the New York Knicks, now Carmelo, one of the brightest young starts in world basketball has returned, the two send chills down the spines of their opponents. The Hornets must go out with a strong heart and a desire to win.
The Nuggets also have a strong frontcourt with Camby and Martin. The two power-houses have demolished defences this year and kept their basket safe, Chandler and Boozer are no push-overs though. With Chandler in his best form of the season and Boozer remaining consistent, this is probably where the game will be won for New Orleans. Paul, Boozer and Chandler are definently going to have to combine like they did in Seattle to expose all the holes in Denver. No dobt, they are one of, if the strongest offensive line-ups in the NBA, but the Hornets aren't 3rd in the NBA for nothing.
