I would like to see Deron and Camby make it, and you can make a case for Randolph.

Allen And Okur Named As All-Star Replacements

13th February, 2007 - 5:26 pm
Ray Allen of the Seattle SuperSonics and Mehmet Okur of the Utah Jazz have been named by NBA Commissioner David Stern as a replacements for injured West All-Stars Allen Iverson (ankle) of the Denver Nuggets and Steve Nash (shoulder) of the Phoenix Suns for the 2007 NBA All-Star Game on Sunday, February 18 in Las Vegas.

Chris Paul of the New Orleans/Oklahoma City Hornets will replace Nash in the Playstation Skills Challenge.

Can't really argue too much with the choices, although I would have liked to see Zach Randolph picked over both of them...

Wed Feb 14, 2007 10:22 am

You kidding me? I totally understand Randolph over Okur, but Randolph over Allen? Have you seen his stats since January? He's averaged over 30 ppg in January and in February 29.5 ppg in February. He is much more talented, and a better player, than people like Josh Howard, Zach Randolph, Shawn Marion, and Mehmet Okur. It was a disgrace that he wasn't on the original list of all stars picked. At some point you have take players because of how talented they are over players that are on a good team.

Ray has done everything he can to help the Sonics win this year, but he can't help that Rashard has just returned from a 2 month injury, and that nobody else on the roster can consistently come to play except Nick Collison. It also doesn't help that they have no decent centers or backup guards.

I don't know... Jamaal Magloire making the East squad in 2004 with 13 and 10 was pretty bad also...

I agree with Silas about Ray. He is trying so hard. It isn't his fault his team sucks. I guess the streak of having Sonic all-stars hasn't ended yet!

Okur was an interesting choice. The West needed a backup Center, and he's been really good this year. Maybe TP will break his leg and Deron can join too.

Randolph should have been picked over Okur. Deron Williams should of been picked over Ray Allen.

Five players (Ewing and Mourning in the East, Shaq, Barkley and Drexler in the West) ended up pulling out of that one due to injury.

Yeah you called it, so many injuries.

The season started out with an unusual amount of injuries as well.

I wonder if it's just a freak year or is the NBA's more up tempo style wearing down players more or what.

It seems like almost every important game is decided by whoever has a fully healthy squad or not. Sure the Bulls beat Phoenix...with Nash & Diaw out.

See that shows how much you know. Deron Williams can't compare to Ray Allen. Deron has Okur and Boozer and AK to help him out. Just because somebody is drastically better or up and coming doesn't mean they're as good as the elite players in the league.

If it was not for Williams the jazz would not have this many wins. He is also kind of the reason Okur and Boozer are having a good year. I think Allen and Okur were good replacments. They should of replaced Boozer or Yao with Okur in the first place, becasue the jazz deserve to have a player in the all star game.

Deron Williams is a fantastic player having a fantastic season, but to say that he deserves the all-star nod over Ray Allen is just dead wrong.

No doubt. I think it's just a freak year though with some unfortunate and untimely injuries. It looks like Kidd might be missing the game as well so we could be seeing a fifth replacement to equal 1997's total.

I don't think Williams is the a big reason that Okur & Boozer are having good years....Okur was playing well last year & was in All-Star consideration, but team wasn't winning & not as many All-Star injuries, so he didn't....Boozer has shown his ability a few years back, but injuries haven't given him a chance to show it....but yep, Deron playing like we all expected when he was 1st PG taken in the draft, has helped them win ball games....I didn't mind the Williams over Paul pick by Jazz in draft, even after Paul did well, as I thought Williams was a better fit for Jazz system than Paul....

Thu Feb 15, 2007 1:06 am

true....but Williams is the reason Jazz are winning. How does Randolph not get picked?

Thu Feb 15, 2007 2:42 am

They should just put names in a raffle, all the players we wanna see is getting injured and can't play. . .

Thu Feb 15, 2007 2:48 am

I think Randolph is on the cusp...but Marion is better. But over Okur...hmmm i wouldn't have gone w/ Okur myself...maybe it was a nod to the Jazz.

i actually wish they would cut the roster size down. make it 2 10 man teams. pick 2 players from each position and thats it. this gives everyone on the team plenty of playing time. i hate seeing some players barely get any minutes during the all star game.

Joe Johnson to replace Kidd in all-star game. I really don't understand this, Joe is having a great year, but I'd choose Ben Gordon over him. My biased pick would've been Curry though.

so that makes it 5....
and it just had to be the year i get to watch it, although i think carmelo should get more game time, now that some of the replacements arn't of same quality as the previous picks

Granted, I do agree. I really like Okur's game, but Randolph is the better player & probably should be ahead of him. Although Zach has kind of gone of the radar since the opening month once Blazers starting losing again. Just hasn't been in spotlight. I prefer Easy E over Randolph, but Zach is having better year. A tough one, but Zach's shady off the court antics earlier in his career couldn't have helped since Stern was picking the replacements

With the way players have been pulling out of the game, we could see it happen yet.

Fri Feb 16, 2007 10:50 am

The next thing that they'll pull out is the event itself.

I think Kidd deserves to be back on the All-Star Roster.

They are pulling players out because they are injured. Why would they just start pulling players off the roster?
