2007 NBA Draft...the best ever?

Sat Sep 09, 2006 3:36 am

I think it will compete with 1996, 1984, and 2003 for the best NBA draft ever. This last draft was very weak because the best players of the high school class of 2005 went straight to the NBA in 2005, and the best players in the high school class of 2006 couldn't go. So, you basically had a draft with little top talent other than a few late bloomers like Adam Morrison and Rudy Gay.

Sat Sep 09, 2006 4:15 am

I think not.

Sat Sep 09, 2006 6:39 am

I think the 2003 draft was the best ever and I think it will stay that way for a long time.

Sat Sep 09, 2006 8:09 am

 No.

Sat Sep 09, 2006 8:12 am

Well it's very easy to say no, but let's remember, anything is possible. Is it possible that 07 will have the best draft ever? yes. Do I see it happening? No.

What are you smoking?

2007 draft no doubt will be great, Oden, Durant, B.Wright, Lawson and about another 20 guys who are capable of being in the lottery. It wont have as many star players such as 2003 but it will definatley have a better overall ranking in the lottery picks

No, the 1984 draft was and still is the best draft of all time.

Sat Sep 09, 2006 12:16 pm

i think the 2007 draft will have alot of great players, similar to the '96 draft, but they wont make a big impact straight away

Sat Sep 09, 2006 12:21 pm

It must be an age thing.

1996 Draft = Best. Ever.

1. Allen Iverson
2. Marcus Camby
3. Shareef Abdur-Rahim
4. Stephon Marbury
5. Ray Allen
6. Antoine Walker
7. Lorenzen Wright
8. Kerry Kittles
9. Samaki Walker
10. Erick Dampier
11. Todd Fuller
12. Vitaly Potapenko
13. Kobe Bryant
14. Predrag Stojakovic
15. Steve Nash
16. Tony Delk
17. Jermaine O'Neal
18. John Wallace
19. Walter McCarty
20. Zydrunas Ilgauskas
21. Dontae' Jones
22. Roy Rogers
23. Efthimis Rentzias
24. Derek Fisher
25. Martin Muursepp
26. Jerome Williams
27. Brian Evans
28. Priest Lauderdale
29. Travis Knight

Sat Sep 09, 2006 12:58 pm

 Vitaly fucking Potapenko before Kobe Bryant. Wow. (not to mention Lorenzen Wright Kerry Kittles Samaki Walker Ericka Dampier and some guy named Todd Fuller)

Sat Sep 09, 2006 1:00 pm

Todd Fuller before Kobe and a two time MVP... oh the heartaches of being an NBA GM

Sat Sep 09, 2006 1:03 pm

To be fair, Kobe was a high schooler and back then they weren't as likely to be excessively hyped into being superstars like they are now. Picks 13-17 would probably make a farly good (if not horribly undersized) starting 5, kind of...

O'Neal
Peja
Kobe
Delk
Nash

look at the big stars from the '96 Draft...

1. Allen Iverson
2. Shareef Abdur-Rahim (earlier in his career)
3. Stephon Marbury
4. Ray Allen
5. Antoine Walker (earlier in his career)
6. Kobe Bryant
7. Peja Stojakavic
8. Steve Nash
9. Jermaine O'Neal

Shareef and Antoine are questionable

1984 Draft

1. Hakeem Olajuwon
2. Michael Jordan
3. Charles Barkley
4. John Stockton

And theres not much else

2003 Draft

1. LeBron James
2. Carmelo Anthony
3. Chris Bosh
4. Dwyane Wade
5. Boris Diaw (?)

There are others like Josh Howard, Kirk Hinrich, TJ Ford, Luke Ridnour, possibly Darko etc. that could soon become stars. also dont forget there was Udonis Haslem and Marquis Daniels who went undrafted

So, it looks like the '96 was the best out of the 3 as of now. Although the 2003 Draft has the distinct disadvantage of having plenty of young players yet to break out, and its impossible to tell wether any players that have not done anything so far may get the chance to shine and become stars

Sat Sep 09, 2006 2:40 pm

84 followed by 96.

Sat Sep 09, 2006 3:35 pm

I only see 3 HOFers out of the 96 draft, Kobe, Nash, and Iverson. 84 had four. And just because you dont remember the days when those guys played, doesnt mean there weren't any players on the antoine walker level.

Sat Sep 09, 2006 3:48 pm

i said stars, not hall of famers

only kobe and iverson are locked for HOF.. nash questionable i think..

Sat Sep 09, 2006 5:54 pm

yea he is questionable but i think he wil go in just because of the 2 MVPs. hey Amphatoast, do u know if anyone that won mutiple MVP awards didnt make the HOF?

Sat Sep 09, 2006 6:06 pm

I see the class of '96 a little bit ahead of the guys from '84. There are just more players who made a real impact. In '84, we had many guys who aren't really remembered right now who were drafted in the first round.

Thats cause alot of the current fans weren't born yet..

Also because talented natural point guards who can also score when needed are so rare.

Don't forget Ilgauskas...

in his Spurs days Alvin Robertson was a 17 6 & 6 & 3.22spg guy (ignoring his rookie season). 4 All-Star appearances too.

Otis Thorpe also had a few dbl dbl seasons. 1 time all-star
Sam Perkins was decent too.
Kevin Willis was also guilty of dbl-dbl seasons (6). Not even an All-Star when he averaged 18 & 13. Lesser numbers will get you in today. 1 time all-star.

There was some depth to that 84 class beyond the 4 mentioned.

The 84 class stands out because you can make a LEGIT case for each player (Hakeem, MJ, Charles, & Stock) as being best of all time @ their position. How many in 96? only if you can convince people that AI & Kobe are better than MJ.
