2007 NBA Draft...the best ever?

I think it will compete with 1996, 1984, and 2003 for the best NBA draft ever. This last draft was very weak because the best players of the high school class of 2005 went straight to the NBA in 2005, and the best players in the high school class of 2006 couldn't go. So, you basically had a draft with little top talent other than a few late bloomers like Adam Morrison and Rudy Gay.

2007 draft no doubt will be great, Oden, Durant, B.Wright, Lawson and about another 20 guys who are capable of being in the lottery. It wont have as many star players such as 2003 but it will definatley have a better overall ranking in the lottery picks

To be fair, Kobe was a high schooler and back then they weren't as likely to be excessively hyped into being superstars like they are now. Picks 13-17 would probably make a farly good (if not horribly undersized) starting 5, kind of...

5. Boris Diaw (?)

There are others like Josh Howard, Kirk Hinrich, TJ Ford, Luke Ridnour, possibly Darko etc. that could soon become stars. also dont forget there was Udonis Haslem and Marquis Daniels who went undrafted

So, it looks like the '96 was the best out of the 3 as of now. Although the 2003 Draft has the distinct disadvantage of having plenty of young players yet to break out, and its impossible to tell wether any players that have not done anything so far may get the chance to shine and become stars

I see the class of '96 a little bit ahead of the guys from '84. There are just more players who made a real impact. In '84, we had many guys who aren't really remembered right now who were drafted in the first round.

in his Spurs days Alvin Robertson was a 17 6 & 6 & 3.22spg guy (ignoring his rookie season). 4 All-Star appearances too.

Otis Thorpe also had a few dbl dbl seasons. 1 time all-star
Sam Perkins was decent too.
Kevin Willis was also guilty of dbl-dbl seasons (6). Not even an All-Star when he averaged 18 & 13. Lesser numbers will get you in today. 1 time all-star.


There was some depth to that 84 class beyond the 4 mentioned.

The 84 class stands out because you can make a LEGIT case for each player (Hakeem, MJ, Charles, & Stock) as being best of all time @ their position. How many in 96? only if you can convince people that AI & Kobe are better than MJ.
