thought it was definatley a big risk, sure battier is an excellent defender, can knock down the occassional 3 and will play well with Yao and Tmac. But he's basically in his prime whereas Gay has an enormous offensive potential and could really learn off someone like Tmac. with the absence of swift they lose alot of athletism and defense at the power foward position. All in all i would never have done this trade, Houston will begin to regret this in years to come.
I'm sure with all the GM's... Any trade with Jerry West is regrettable... and I have a feeling the Gay trade is gonna be no different.. because it could turn out to be as big of a ripoff as the Kobe/Vlade trade back in 96.
It could be a ripoff...and then again it could not be.
But I think you're seriously overrating Jerry West. He's traded for some young guys that went nowhere, and also traded away some very good young players. In short, he makes mistakes, and he's not perfect.
Ever checked out the boards at Clutchfans yet? Many Rockets already felt that the Rockets got ripped off.

and then when t-mac had left his prime, gay would have taken over, so houston is not making a valid pioint, and i think everyone is waiting until cd gets fired
