Telfair wants Celtic's to unretire #31

Like real basketball, as well as basketball video games? Talk about the NBA, NCAA, and other professional and amateur basketball leagues here.

here comes the inevitable disagreeing post...

he's requesting/asking for permission to get the number, not ordering the Celtic organization/Maxwell to give him the #.

what's really moronic is Danny Ainge passing on Foye/Roy to acquire Telfair

The fact that he's even asking is disrespectful. It's the principle of the thing.

my god.. does he not realize the organization he is playing for now? its one of the most respected sports organizations ever and one of the most winningst too. he can't just simply ask one of those legends to un-retire his jersey for some scrub who is way over his head...

Whats the harm in Asking. if they say no he will just wear another number. aint no harm in taking a shot at it. 8-)

asking shows his lack of respect for basketball history. It's not like Telfair did anything special so far.

There's a reason why his number is retired. The Celtics can't simply just allow a player to use that number, especially if its an overhyped scrub that hasn't done anything remarkable in the league.

Like I said earlier, retiring someone's jersey and number should be something that is respected by all players.

True, but as Yohance said it's the principle. Demanding the number would show a complete lack of class and he hasn't done that, but he's still (for the most part) unproven and the new player in town asking permission for one of the most storied teams in the league to unretire a jersey that belonged to a Finals MVP. Perhaps he hasn't gone about it in a completely disrespectful way but it's a very bold request to say the least.

:D BASSY, YOU'RE THE MAN ! :D

I've never heard anybody requesting to unretire a number... I think is disrispectful but I understand him, because it always has been his jersey number, and means a lot to him.

fair enough. Telfair does strike me someone that's naive to do something like but at the least he's requesting the number.

heh- if someone on the bulls was requesting Jordan's number, i would think it's a joke

It's exactly like Someone in bulls to ask for #23
in Indiana to ask for #31
or in Utah to ask for #12...

I'd have to agree with FreeGamer, I think it's time Telfair just picks a new number. It really shouldn't matter, show what you got on the court....Your number won't matter then

I think the headline is a bit misleading. He's not asking for the number to be unretired, he's just asking for permission to wear it. The no. 31 can still be hanging from the rafters, right?
