They report that Peja is going to resign. I dont know about this though. A lot of people have been saying that he is going to go into free agency. Maybe this was a good move for Indiana

I don't think most people understood what he actually said to the media. He just said he was opting out of the last year of his contract, he didn't say he was going to leave and find another team. He just wants more money it seems, I'm not sure if it's a good idea for them to resign him. They have Granger.

True they do, Granger should start in my opinion, but i think that they should keep Peja for another year and make a solid run at a Championship. They just need to add a few key players to the mix. Maybe Anthony Johnson will play like he did in the playoffs.

blow it all up....get rid of the injury riddled O'Neal, the injury prone & playoff choker Stojakovic and the nutcase Jackson. Ditch Tinsley too.

They have to ditch Tinsley, he is always finding new ways to injure himself.

Oh yeah, what an excellent post, shepnoir.

The artest/stojakovic deal obviously helped both teams. Sacramento becuase they got the best player in the deal, and indiada clearly didnt want to keep Artest. I'm not in favour of breaking this team up yet, unless if they get a really good offer for O'neal.

Maggette was on offer...i'd take him over Stojakovic anyday.

Pacers don't have any chances of winning a title unless they go into semi-rebuild mode.

Corey Maggette does essentially what Stephen Jackson does, so why would they want two almost identical players?

The Pacers dont need to go into rebuilding mode. They are one player away, just like the pistons in 2004 before they picked up rasheed.

Corey Maggette is easily a better player than Jackson. If they had acquired Maggette they could have unloaded Jackson in free agency this season, which is what they just might do anyways. The last thing Pacers needed is a guy that can't stay on court, can't create his own shot and chokes in the playoffs.

The Pacers dont need to go into rebuilding mode. They are one player away, just like the pistons in 2004 before they picked up rasheed

on the assumption that everyone is healthy...what are the chances of that? Even if they acquire someone, he's gotta perform miracles because the Pacers offense isn't good enough....and if you wanna win a championship you need better offense especially since both SAS & Detroit play better on BOTH ends of the court than Indiana.

Isn't there a saying "Defense always beats out offense"? I think Peja should stay, he has done well with the team.

Peja doesn't have any defense because his feet are so slow. Carter blew by him on the break so many times in the games he played. There could still be a place for him though, I bet the Pacers are going to move Granger to shooting guard.

I agree 100%. With the playoffs over, looking back on that deal, Peja was nice for a little while in the regular season, but when the playoffs came he shit his pants and only played two games. Poorly I might add.

Tinsley, Jack Pollard, Fred Jones and possibly Jeff Foster will be gone this offseason. Nobody is untouchable right now except for Danny Granger and David Harrison IMO.

My real thought is on Rick Carlisle though. I really, REALLY hope that he is gone. He simply is not the right coach for this group, period.

Why the hell does that saying apply to Peja in any way? He is the slowest one on one defender in the world.

i loved Rick Carlisle when he was in Detroit, but what i learnt though is that he's not a good playoff coach. He just might be the best reg. season coach in the league, getting wins he shouldn't be getting, but in the playoffs he just doesn't make necessary adjustments and he's really holding his team back.

I bet Pacers are better offensively than what they are showing. With Granger & Fred Jones they should be able to get some running game going, especially since their defense is pretty damn tough, but Carlisle has the PG walking the ball up court. Too deliberate.

I think Carlisle would be fine coaching a team that is already ready to win it all, as the Pacers were at the beginning of the season. But now is a rebuilding time, and Carlisle is the worst possible guy for that. He showed that in Detroit by refusing to play Tayshaun over Michael Curry, and he is doing the same thing to Danny and David here. Danny and David both need to be starting next season, end of story, and Rick won't do that. I would love to get Paul Silas in here, but that's unlikely.

I'm not applying that to Peja, I was looking at the post above me about San Antonio and Detroit Pistons being better on offense.

I agree that Rick should leave..IMO he should have got Danny, David and Saras more playing time..But i also think that Peja should stay..why not use him like Reggie? As much as i love Reggie, his defense wasn't all that better than Peja's (although it was slightly better)..And Indy, i don't think it's fair to judge Peja's game in these series because of his injury..Yes, he choked in previous years but hey, as poorly as he played in these 2 games, Indiana won. And lost all four of them when he was out..I wouldn't say that's a coincidence..And yeah, bring P. Silas in (Y)

The one thing Peja does definitley do is stretch the defense. I will give him some credit for JO's monster 37 and 15 game in game 3.

As far as getting Saras more playing time, he got plenty of chances and over time proved himself that he just isn't capable of playing large NBA minutes. He can't play defense, he didn't shoot the ball well at all for the most part, and he turns the ball over when you put pressure on him. Saras was a mistake signing unfortunately so far, but I would be shocked to see LB give up on him so early, since he was his guy for quite a while.

I want Barbosa so badly.

Carlisle started playing Prince when Detroit was down 3-1 to Orlando....what do you know they win the next 3.

Granger needs to start next season for sure. He's got immense talent, just needs to work on his shot some more.

He is the best midrange shooter on the team, and he's the second best three point shooter behind Peja. The numbers don't really back that up, but if you watched any of the Nets series, he was the best jump shooter on the team in that series. When he spots up for a midrange jumper or even a three I expect it to go in every time.

The thine about Prince, is that I read something about how managment had to FORCE him to give Prince minutes over Curry and that he still wouldn't which was the main reason he got fired.

that's true....Dumars wanted Prince played at the expense of Curry & Williamson but Carlisle wouldn't budge.

I disagree. What Saras needs is consistent PT. Because lack of PT obviously effects his confidence. I know his defense sucks but that is something he could work on this summer. It's not like Peja's any better  (and I'm big Peja's fan)..And there is NO WAY he should be used as SG, which he was for 70% of the time he was on the court. I believe he could become some sort of a Mark Price/John Stockton type of player (just not that good). IMO, he could easily average 13PPG/7A/4R per game..oh, and i think running offense (a la Bulls/Suns) would suit him better. Maybe some think i'm crazy but i've been watching this guy play for 6 years (back in the days in Slovenia) and i think i know what he is capable of. And i agree he'll stay in Indiana because of LB. I just hope they get rid of Carlisle..

Excellent point. I think the main word to describe what Saras needs to be successful is exactly that: consistency. He needs to be around a group of guys that he always plays with, and that are always on the floor.

The one thing I have forgotten to mention about Saras in this thread is that he makes David Harrison so much better. Its amazing the type of fluency and chemistry those two have. Saras made DH's progress speed up a lot this season, and that makes his year not a complete failure.
