We've actually got a section that's dedicated to discussion of the real NBA called NBA Talk, down the bottom of the forum. I'll move this there. ;)

the playoff has nothing to do with MVP voting especially the finals, since these awards are rewarded before it

1. If the pistons break the 70 mark (which ain't happening anymore) - Billups
2. If Mavs win the regular season - Dirk
3. If Suns win the regular season - Nash
4. If the Lakers make it to the playoffs - Kobe
5. If the Sixers make it to the playoffs - Iverson

IMO it's going to be 4./5. If you'd look at the teams surrounding the candidates it would be Kobe with a huge cap.
Give respect, get respect.

kobe ain't a MVP. a mvp makes his team better... kobe makes himself better.

What the fuck, kobe doesnt play both ends of the court? Yeah thats right, I forgot, he only sits in a directors chair at half court and waits for the other team to score, then he gets the ball and jacks up a shot. Now I see what you mean! Homer.

But I do agree Billups is the MVP this season, but not for the reasons you mentioned.

I wouldn't say that. Having no Hughes for like a month, the Cavs have posted a great record. His stats also show up that he's an all around guy getting 31-6-6.

One could argue that many of the teams the candidates play for would be the same without their mvp candidate. Take , for instance , Detroit. I know this is a minority opinion but I just don't see Detroit changing drastically without Billups. They would continue to remain the best team in the East since other players will just pick up the slack , i.e. Ben Wallace , Rasheed Wallace , Rip Hamilton. I find it hard to believe that all of them would start losing or playing poorly if , in a hypothetical situation , Billups was to leave as a free agent next year. Billups is a great point guard but not MVP-worthy yet in my opinion.

I've explained this before in the Kobe 81 thread and I'll explain it again. At this point in time , if NBA MVP voting were held now , Kobe would be the clear-cut winner , no questions asked. If the Lakers choke and pull a Bobcats 13-game losing streak , and completely blow themselves out of playoff contention , then I stand corrected. Otherwise how can you deny the MVP award to the player who has the 2nd highest point total in NBA history? I know he shouldn't be awarded the MVP on that performance alone but it is the other spectacular performances he has had , combined with that legendary day , which make him a strong candidate and possibly winner of the MVP award. If the MVP award isn't only about points , then Kobe Bryant remains a strong candidate simply because the Lakers would be horribly under .500 without him going out there and scoring 30-40+ every night. As I said above , no other candidate , when removed from their team , would be as bad as Kobe being removed from the Lakers.

who cares what each team would be w/o a certain player. That's not something you can accurately measure. i wouldn't vote Kobe MVP....sure he's playing great, but he's alienated his teammates and slacked of defensively (rarely does he play aggresive D like in the past). His shot selection these days is bad, unlike what it was at the beginning of the season, and his team is barely .500.

So Kobe is a mvp candidate but bron and iverson aren't? His team is worse..but he scored 81 points so he should get it? bullshit. The nba claims the mvp award is about winning but they have a serious double standard.

Kobe isnt getting MVP consideration just because of the 81, he has been in the mix even before that. Its based on the totality of work he has done over the course of the season.

Cmon, Kobe was playing like a schoolgirl in the beginnig of this season, he's shooting percentage was below 40, that's an MVP? LeBron has been very consistent.
