Best Defensive Players

What players do you think are good "D" players.

A few coaches say "A good defence will lead to a great offence"

Dwyane Wade is a good defensive player? When did that happen?

Shawn Marion, no doubts there: he's the best defensive player in the league right now.

I hate Alonzo but I have to respect his D. You cant step with that baby shit with that guy around. Granted he was posterized by Carter really bad, he still brings fear to opposing players driving the lane.

problem is he tries to block EVERYTHING which means he gets faked out too easy and when he leaves his man for the block he's giving his opponent a chance at an offensive rebound.

You know, if Miami hadn't gone after Willams, Walker and Posey, they would have had an excellent Riley-ish core of defenders. You would still have Mourning patroling off the bench, but Eddie Jones would be an upgrade over anything they have right on (perimeter) D, plus they could start Payton and resign/bring Damon Jones off the bench.

No, he signed with Cavs because Miami believed they no longer need him and they would rather preserve money for Finley or other FAs.

Haslem? He tries and all, but he's undersized, doesn't really have long arms, isn't really that strong, and is not a shot blocker. His defense isn't anything special.

D Wade = Ricky Davis on D

Wade is a better defender than Davis. Wade is a better help than man to man defender. He's a very good help defender, and an above average man to man defender.

Perimeter
Andrei Kirilenko
Shane Battier
Ron Artest
Tayshaun Prince
Gerald Wallace
Earl Watson
Bruce Bowen
Trenton Hassell
Kobe Bryant [when he wants to]
Some others

Interior
Tim Duncan
Alonzo Mourning
Ben Wallace
Kevin Garnett
Marcus Camby
Rasheed Wallace
Shawn Marion
blah blah blah...

Trenton Hassell, Greg Buckner, Adrian Griffin, Kevin Garnett, Eddie Griffin and an underrated defender is Fred Hoiberg.

I feel Miami would be much better if the Shaq deal didnt happen. They had a young promising team with the right attitude (worked hard on both ends). The second the trade happened and I saw them play I was no longer a Heat fan. All I saw were cocky players out there walking with this untouchable swagger as if Shaq was a messiah. This was a far cry from the team that scraped and scratched their way into the playoffs the previous year. If they stayed together then all that would have happened was the team would get even more cohesive, both on offense and defence, and D-Wade would have still developed into a strong player. I hate Wade's attitude now. Recently I watched a game and saw him on the brink of throwing the ball at the ref even though it was the correct call. The old Wade would have jus chillaxed and make sure he did it right the next play.

By this I can say Bryant is one of the best, if not the best denfensive player in this league given the fact that he was once in the first team. which I surely won't say these days.
Wade is simply quick enough to get steals and jumps high enough to block from behind playing help D. And that's all.
He has good statsline but cant really shut down anyone.
