Liu Xiaoyu (allowed by Guangdong Junior team to play for Syndey Kings of NBL)
Well before he lands NBA, he is going to play in Australia's NBL !!!

http://sports.sina.com.cn/cba/2005-12-0 ... 7541.shtml

This is sort of confirmed in above sina.com article.

Liu Xiaoyu will go to join Sydney Kings of NBL of Australia, the current champion team of NBL (Champion for 3 consecutive seasons already).

He will study as a student, while playing for Sydney Kings.

The Sydney Kings confirmed that he will be given same treatment and training as the other players on the roster, and a bi-monthly report will be submitted to CBA regarding Liu Xiaoyu's progress, and if situation warrants, priority will be granted for releasing Liu Xiaoyu back to represent China in international competition/tournaments.

Well according to the above sina.com article, alot of people had worked behind the scene to make this happen, including the Chairman and Gerneral Manager of the Guangdong Hongyuan Tigers (the team Liu Xiaoyu belongs to), top Chinese leader and member of NSW Legislative Council in Australia, Henry Tsang , the Consul-General (of China to Australia)Qiu Shaofang and Li Yuanwei, the CBA Commissioner.

So great news for this young lad !!!

Can somebody tell me what the hell happened to Yi Jian Lian? I remember him being the number one pick in mock drafts...but then he disappeared after his age fiasco...

ok well several reasons

the chinese leagues raised limit of age to 22 before allowing players to declare for draft... and yi is younger than me, just turned 18, therefore he's got a long while.

he didnt play that well during . i think the standaovic cup (i buthered the name).... and he dropped a bit.. but confusions about his age is whats keeping him from being great... and the fact that there is no way china is gonna let him out of the CBA and away from guangdong, therefore there is no way he will get internationa exposure.

he is no the only one, Chen and Mo Guochou is another couple good people with Mo rumored to be able to jump from the FT line for a dunk.. but limits are whats keeping them unknown and off the radar

back to Yi, he is tearing up the CBA right now

That's quite sad.
I heard he's pretty amazing since he has the height of a big man, but with the athletic abilities of a guard because he used to play SG before he suddenly grew tall. Was his age issue ever settled?

yeah he (liu wei) played, and in the report he was listed as just another chinese player, average.

and sit, beijing aoshen, not Beijing Ducks (the one bateer plays for) did get banned from the CBA because they refused to let Sun Yue play for the national team in fear that he will get international exposure and will want to leave the team. they have a 3 year ban? i think, and they are currently playing in the Spencer Haywood Division of the ABA, their "home base" is Maplewood, California right outside of Los Angeles (perhaps, dont quote me on this), and all the players are attending the University of the West, which is literally all chinese, to improve their english, though Sun already speaks fluent English..
for an update on Beijing. they fell to 10-7 after loosing 3 straight, but that could be attributed to the other teams bringing on former NBA players, while the Aoshen is still learning. Sun Yue a couple games ago was rebound or 2 shy of a triple double, and in the 4 to 5 games before they lost he was average near a triple double.

as for yi... well his guangdong team is actually struggling as they were beaten by Tang (Jiangsu Dragons), their nemasis in the CBA

as for some new news on Xu Yong. he played his first high school game for the Bush School in the Emerald City 1A divison, which is basically the pits of high school basketball in Seattle. No idea why he went there... and his team only scored 21 points total, while he only managed 6. the question is why. perhaps he wasnt used to the american system? my guess is that he just needs to get back to playing basketball after being out of it for so long.

another i forgot to mention above is Chen Jianghua who turned heads this recent summer at the ABCD camp in america, here is a video of him. too bad for those outside of the USA... this is stupid google video... :x
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid ... 217&q=chen

he basically hurt himself at the beginning of the camp, but still managed to play well enough to make the all star game. several of the scouts at the camp rated him as high as right behind OJ Mayo and/or one of the most complete players at the camp. he improved greatly in his court vision, and his jumping skills are still out of the gym, and i have heard recently his midranged shooting was key in his high school club defeating the CUBA (chinese university basketball assoication) teams in a huge tournament.

thats all i got for now lol. enjoy

agreed, but he is still really raw. his bush high school team will face off against University Prep, to whom they lost to 38-43 last time withouth Xu. In Xu's most recent game he scored 6 points while his teammates scored 15 total. hopefully Xu can bounce back and do some damage. I would expect that after playing professionally in china, he would at least average like 15-20 cause he is the tallest guys on the court, i dont think the Emerald City IA league has too many kids over 6'4 and Xu is listed at 6'8

Btw Chen's guangdong high school team demolished competition at a canadian tournament recently. if you want more info ask lol

Actually, in that Canadian tournament, I believe the AsiaBasket said that the Chinese "high-school" players were actually more or less professionals.

thats true though.
me and a couple other guys, including Arthur Volbert of AsiaBasket had a huge discussion about this because these kids were more or less junior club team members and they included Chen Jianghua and Liu Xiaoyu, players on the junior national team and players who attended and excelled at the Nike and ABCD camps in America.

we felt that they team that went to Canada should have gone to Australia and swapped with the chinese high school team that went there. The canadian tournament team had too easy of a time whereas the team that went down to australia only finished 7th. if they were swapt both teams would be playing on their respective levels. the Guangdong team outmatched opponents in Canada, and the team that went to australia were outmatched. at swap would have been good.

well SOHU.com just announced that SUN YUE has been selected to play for the ABA All Star game

http://sports.sohu.com/20060122/n241549676.shtml

ABA All Stars will be held at the BankAtlantic Center in Sunrise, Florida on February 21 (Tuesday).

The roster of the West and East All Stars will be finalized Feburary 2.

But yesterday, ABA announced 4 of the following players making the All Stars, and Sun Yue is among the list !!!

The 4 All Stars are:-

Eastern Division

Tim Hardaway of Florida Pit Bulls
Chandler Thompson of Indiana Wildcats

Western Division

Jerry Dupree of SoCal Legends
Sun Yue of Beijing Olympians

To pick All Stars players from 48 ABA teams is not going to be easy. So ABA devised the following methods:-

 The head coach of the #1 team of the most winning ratio in the West and East will be the Head Coaches for the 2 All Stars team.

 The head coaches of the #2 and #3 teams in each division will be the Assistant Coaches

 The 6 coaches will then pick the players they think worthy All Stars players. And only maximum 2 players can be picked from one team.

 Each team will have 14 players; i.e. 28 players can be All Stars.

Unanimously, the above 4 were first selected and announced.

ABA Co-Founder/Chairman Joe Newman said: "The selected All Stars are players that helped lead their respective teams with their outstanding performance and leadership. Like Sun Yue, the 6ft 9 point guard; his playing style on-court reminds us of the LA Lakers' basketball legend, Magic Johnson. Such players are indispensable for the All Stars Game. He is definitely an All Star."

After knowing that he got selected to be an All Star, Sun Yue said: "This is an affirmation to my current performance. The ABA All Stars are hand-picked by the coaches, and that means all the All Stars need to be the top players of ABA. I'm much honored to be selected to the All Stars Game. At the moment, the full list of the All Stars has yet to be announced; I personally think Huang Haibei might have the opportunity to be selected as well. At the All Stars Game, we will be able to prove to the world that China has many other good basketball players. It is 3 weeks away from the ABA All Stars. I will continue to diligently lead my team for more wins to prove my worth as an All Star."

and iLLuzionz, if you wanna know more, here is a link to the tournament that was held in canada

It's good to see Sun suceed in an American basketball league, but that quote is stupid.
