Whats taking the Pacers so long?

Postby KilIluminati on Wed Jan 11, 2006 6:05 pm

Right now im really mad. I am pissed off that the Pacers still have not traded Ron Artest. Its been over a month and they have taken away from my enjoyment of an NBA season, part of which is Blockbuster Trades. In an average NBA season there is already 6-9 traded to this point. 1 or 2 of them are big names. Instead.. this year we have 0 trades since training camp. Indiana waiting so long has also put other teams trades on hold, since everyone is waiting where Artest goes and if they have a shot at him. TRADE HIM ALREADY PLEASE! I know Indiana GM doesnt read these boards, bit im just really pissed and expressing my opinion. Thank You

just a shame donnie walsh and larry bird aren't idiots. they'll probably want to trade him to the west because they won't want to face him during playoff time ( i know i wouldn't). personally as a lakers fan, I want him to go to LA -- I really hope they trade him for george and kwame -- would work for both teams too.

Oh No!! I'm Sorry the Pacers haven't sacrificed more to make your short minded self happy with player movement. Its so horrible that you should have to focus on actual basketball and not players going to different cities. I really do deeply feel for you, and I'm sure Donnie and Larry do to.

You can give up on a trade like that happening. If that was a trade that would happen, it would have happened already.

We are either getting an All Star, or Ron will be on the roster untill the end of the season, and we will trade him for an all star in the offseason.

What makes you think anyone will offer an All-Star? Artest may have skills on the court but his off-court troubles may be a turn off for most teams.

Unless you mean Peja...

I still believe the longer the Pacers wait the more his value goes down. I think Donnie Walsh is doing a selfish thing right now by holding onto Ron Artest. His team is struggling and it looks like help will not be on they way for awhile. They should just take the best offer they have available right now because the Pacers right now aren't looking like championship contenders. It's almost like he is leaving his team out to dry just to prove a point to the league and to Artest.

I know Indy will probably disagree with me, but I think Indiana needs to make a move because they can't win with that roster right now. They need add SOMETHING (anything) so they can start thinking championship once again.

Well what the fuck are they doing? They have taken one of the better players in the league out of the game to prove a point? Thats pathetic. They're not going to get equal value for him.. so what do they plan on doing? They can either trade him for some players that could actually help the pacers or bring him back. What they are doing by keeping him on IR is wrong and classless.

Not to mention Indiana's morale will go down once the trade deadline's passed with Artest still on the roster.

Exactly. The Pacers need to make a move now or this will be another "could've, should've, would've" season for the Pacers.

JO being out with the flu and battling back problems and Tinsley being hurt have also accounted for the Pacers struggles

Riot, Cy, Matthew- I think Walsh is doing the right thing. I think whatever trade the team makes, it's going to make the team take a step back since they will not get equal value. I believe Walsh understands this and does not want to be rushed into a deal.

I think his trade value will go up right by the trading deadline as some teams may think Artest is the missing link for a middling team and make a questionable/risky offer

It sucks for the players. They've been betrayed by Artest and now the roster is somewhat in limbo. I think they believe in their GM and Coach, who are amongt the best in the league. Plus last year the team used Artest's absence as a rallying cry and I don't see this year being any different.

I don't mind the wait, and I don't think there should be any rush at all - it's just that it wouldn't look pretty if Artest was kept past the trade deadline.

The moment Donnie Walsh said he was going to trade Artest his value went down. Everyone GM knows that he is somewhat desperate to make a deal.

How have they been betrayed by Artest? It's not like he did a Ricky Williams and decided to go live in India and smoke his life away. All Artest said was if its best for the Pacers then maybe they should trade me. Thats pretty much it. If they Pacers legitimately wanted to keep him, they wouldn't have cared what he said (just like the Lakers did when Kobe was a free agent and Buss said he wouldnt do a sign and trade under any circumstances). The Pacers obviously wanted to get rid of him and this was their opportunity to try to make themselves look like the victims and they had no choice to deal him.

And by not dealing him or allowing him to return to the pacers to play, Donnie Walsh is holding the rest of the pacer players hostage by this situation. The longer artest sits at home, the lower his trade value gets. Just look at Ricky Williams again. When he returned, he wasn't worth a 5th round pick. Now he looks to be close to where he was before he left.

The Pacers are killing themselves here and Artest is an easy scapegoat.

How have they been betrayed by Artest?

A great deal had to do with the fact that Artest hurt his team last year with that brawl and made promises that he was going to come back and bring Indiana a championship. The entire team stuck by Artest and defended him throughout the whole last season, and now they feel betrayed because the guy wanted out, and in public. This obviously pissed off management and the Pacers players. Artest had been a distraction and a problem in the past couple years, and this was the last straw for Donnie. If he was desparate to get rid of him, Artest would've been gone by now.

Interesting, but I dont believe much of what GM's say especially when it comes to loyalty. Artest has always been the type of guy who has been shopped around the league, even before the brawl. I don't buy into the pacers when they say "we never thought about trading him when he was suspended". They would have gotten nothing for him! I cant think of one team that would have been legitimately interested in him.

And the Pacers are desperate to get rid of him. By Donnie Walsh saying "we will trade him in 10 days" shows desperation. The fact he is deactivated shows even more desperation.

Judging by that, the offers musn't be very good. Theres no way the Pacers will get equal value for him, so why are they trying? The longer this goes on not only does it hurt the chances of them getting any sort of value in return, but it hurts the current pacer team.

Why don't they just accept his apology and bring him back?

i think it we can agree that Indiana is "desparate" to trade him. how desparate the team is to get rid of him is where we differ

As I mentioned, I think the Indiana organization realizes whatever trade they make, the team will take a step back. They don't stand to gain anything if they just took the first offer that comes by

what cyanide posted is why they don't want him back, Matthew.

I read what Cyanide wrote, and I cant believe a team so close to a championship would be so stubborn with its 2nd best player. He demanded a trade (which he apologised for). He was suspended last season (which he served).

For a team that has had one finals trip in their entire NBA existance, you'd think they would realise how these opportunties don't come every year.

But I guess winning isnt important to some teams.

Well Matthew, I'm really, really glad you don't run the Pacers. Because the rumor mill is getting really, really hot right now. It looks like we have been offered Maggette, we want to work him out and make sure his foot injury isn't one that will keep him out all season. If we choose not to take Maggette, then we have our pick of Ricky Davis and a pick or Al Harrington and Mickael Pietrus.

The fact that you think we should bring back Ron makes me laugh so hard. You have just proven to me in this thread that you lack any basketball knowledge whatsoever. There are probably 40 reasons why Ron shouldn't be brought back, but I'll name 4.

1.) The players took a vote, they had 3 choices. Option 1- Bring Ron Back. Option 2- No opinion either way. Option 3- KEEP HIM AWAY. Every single player voted 3. You want to bring back a guy NOBODY ON THE TEAM WANTS THERE??

2.) Even if he was brought back, there is no way Rick could play him. After you publicly disrespect a coach like that to the media, and that coaches name is Rick Carlisle, you can forget ever playing for him ever again.

3.) Jermaine O'Neal's comments. If I have to choose between Ron and Jermaine, I'm choosing Jermaine without a doubt. Jermaine strongly came out and said its him or me, and you definitley don't bring Ron back when doing so means Jermaine will demand a trade. How stupid is that?

4.) He would have done something again to fuck us up again. As much as I wanted to believe it during the offseason, we weren't contenders with Artest. He is not a winner, he has a personal agenda. One finals apperance in our NBA history? That's right, we played during the Jordan days, and if we didn't Reggie would have at least 1 ring. Why have we been such a successful team that reaches the playoffs every season? Because Indiana basketball is about playing as a team, and not having personal agendas. Even if Ron had come out and only said that he didn't like Rick Carlisle, that would have been enough. He should have been suspended indefinitley and traded as soon as a good deal comes across, and that's exactly what we are doing. Props to Donnie Walsh and Larry Bird for handling this like professionals, and doing it the right way. Its paying off too, we're gonna get a very quality player for Ron, mark my words.
