Is he stupid or what? they are prohibiting jewerly, not black people jewerly, this just doesn't make sense. Doesn't matter black guys wear it more than white, Jackson made a racist remark there...
haha very good point!

Does this mean Mark Madsen can't wear fubu on the sideline?
Thu Oct 20, 2005 6:29 am
Man... this must really suck a$$. I mean, I think you should be able to wear anything you want, but aatleast something appropriate... I personally wouldnt want to wear a suit like every 2days or so or every day. And no jewellery? Why? Whats so bad bout those things?

Professionalism. You see rich businessmen wear Fubu, chains, and ghetto clothes? It's the way society expects out of those who are making millions, to appear like millionares, not gangstas, and to set examples for kids who want to be professional ball players.

Yeah, they should look like this:
Instead of this:
Thu Oct 20, 2005 8:03 am
"these guys are in the process of starting you know what with me"
I assume the guy whose face isn't blurred is the one who said that. If that's the case, with that style of clothing of his I'm not surprised he's a fist magnet.
Thu Oct 20, 2005 10:08 am
The simple solution is just not to get injured, then you can sit on the bench in your jersey and warm-ups and not worry about the dress code.
Thu Oct 20, 2005 12:05 pm
that guy in the shorts in the second picture..looks stupid
Thu Oct 20, 2005 1:04 pm
He reminds me of the white guy on 'Next Friday'
Thu Oct 20, 2005 1:52 pm
he is like a rapper wannabe. lol, he looks like a clown.
Thu Oct 20, 2005 7:29 pm
That doesn't make any sense.
Most of the superstars in the nba is young. The nba is catered more to the young audience. I'm young and i dont actually pay attention to their clothes or image. It doesnt affect me if theyre wearing shirts or shorts. Its not what i paid for to see. I paid for the entertainment they bring. Just let them be themselves and dont make them portray someone they are not.
Thu Oct 20, 2005 8:10 pm
So basically you guys are saying becuase NBA players are rich they shouldn't be allowed to have a choice in what they wear?
Thu Oct 20, 2005 8:16 pm
not necessarily, but the point is NBA players complain at the slightest discomfort. Meanwhile there's people in the real world making $25k, wearing a suit and tie and they don't complain as much as some of the spoiled brats in the L.
Thu Oct 20, 2005 8:24 pm
No, because they work for an international company called NBA, and that company has its rules, they must obey them.
I work for an international company i have to wear suit and tie everyday, because i make a better impression to the clients, to my workmates and to any other people.
With the NBA players it's the same. Some many people ALL OVER THE WORLD, think that these players are just silly rich boys who doesn't even know that 2+2=4 and who only makes jumps, baskets, listen rap and hiphop and wear gold chains.
We all know that they aren't that way (at least a part of them hehehe), but they have to show it too.
Thu Oct 20, 2005 8:33 pm
I listen to hiphop and rap AND I KNOW that 2+2=4.. that does mean i should be a golfer?

If you feel so strongly against the nba player, why do you follow it then?
The players arent fighting it, they are just expressing their opinions about it. If a guy earning $30 000 was asked questions all the time, im sure he would give similar responses. It's just the nba players arent in a hypothetical situation, they do get questioned all the time and when they give honest responses, they get criticised for it.

Good idea in theory but I think it's a bit excessive. The concept of players being made to wear business casual in between games, press conferences etc - ie times when the public/media might spot them - is more of a private school ideal rather than general society. But it is well within the NBA's rights to uphold a dress code, and since it's in the new CBA the player's union must have agreed to it.
I'm no fan of the race card either; I can see where Jackson is coming from but I do agree with boconcio, he's the one bringing race into the whole matter even if there's some truth in his assertions.
San Antonio's Tim Duncan, also a critic of the new policy, did not play in Tuesday's game and sat on the bench wearing an untucked shirt and baggy jeans -- attire that could result in a fine if seen during a regular-season game.
"I think it's a load of crap," Duncan told the San Antonio Express-News. "I understand what they're trying to do with [forbidding] hats and 'do rags and [retro] jerseys and stuff. That's fine. But I don't understand why they would take it to this level. I think it's basically retarded.
"I don't like the direction they're going, but who am I?"
Duncan told the newspaper that, in the future, he might choose to stay in the locker room on nights he isn't playing.
We might have media outburst of the year right there, if only because it's Duncan. That's the part I like best about this whole thing, actually - the fact Stern's going to have to deal with Duncan over it. The only way it could be more entertaining is if Duncan was to start wearing chains to Mr T proportions and referring to David Stern as "bitch" or "boner". Multiple tattoos and coloured hair couldn't be far away if that ever happened.
Thu Oct 20, 2005 9:50 pm
Hahah yes Timmy! That was hilarious. I bet David Stern was expecting (maybe even hoping?) that Iverson or Artest would make a statement like this, but not the leagues poster child.
Kudos to timmy for speaking his mind. It is a bucnh of crap (and retarted too! heheh)
Thu Oct 20, 2005 9:54 pm
I hope every player who doesnt suit up wears watever the fuck they want, because if they all do, wat is the NBA gonna do, keep fining em?
Well they might, but its just stupid. And Stern said somethin along the lines of, "..if they wanna be in the NBA or not." Referring to whether the players choose to abide by the dress code or not.
So if everyone goes against it, what they gonna do, boot everyone? I dont think so...
I get where they are coming from, but seriously, its not their choice to say what clothes they have to put over their own body, let alone necklaces and hats FFS....who do they (Stern) think they are?
Thu Oct 20, 2005 9:55 pm
Well, they do have the right to enforce a dress code. They're just being nitpicky about it.
Thu Oct 20, 2005 9:57 pm
I'd like to see them try and kick out the reigning finals mvp over the dress code though.

Jugs wrote:I listen to hiphop and rap AND I KNOW that 2+2=4.. that does mean i should be a golfer?
I've said it was a general opinion. I don't mean that every one who listen hiphop is a retard
Perhaps it's my "not so good" english, but i tried to mean that we all know that NBA players are not stupid people that only do that things (listen hiphop and play basketball), but the way you dress can be an influence in people's opinion about you.
Again, sorry about my english
By the way, i listen heavy metal and i don't have long hair
Thu Oct 20, 2005 10:02 pm
I think they should do what they're told. They are employees of the NBA, and should abide by the rules of the NBA... if they don't like it, they can forego their huge paychecks and go get a real job packing shelves at a supermarket or whatever Jackal does.
So basically you guys are saying becuase NBA players are rich they shouldn't be allowed to have a choice in what they wear?
No. I'm saying that because they're getting paid copious amounts of money by the NBA they shouldn't be whinging about the fact that they can't wear a stupid chain outside of their clothing. I mean the thing is, they can still wear the bloody things... just not hanging out and I can't blame the NBA because 90% of those things are fuckin ugly to begin with. I don't entirely agree with the new dress code to begin with, but it's not exactly going to kill any of them. They should stop being a bunch of pathetic little(tall) prima donnas and just get on with it.
Lol @ Tim Duncan. Goes right up there with "FIBA sux!!!"

Exactly. I can't wait for David Stern's reaction Duncan.
