What do you think about Pierce??

Sun Oct 09, 2005 6:30 am

I was wondering if you guys think Ainge Will trade Pierce? Im not sure yet you guys?

Sun Oct 09, 2005 6:34 am

I would'nt trade him.. and if they did they better trade him for a good guy not a crappy trade

Sun Oct 09, 2005 7:58 am

i'd trade him
the guy wasn't that great, i honestly think his best years are behind him

Sun Oct 09, 2005 8:08 am

The guy did get stabbed 57 times and is still a great player.

Aside from "veteran craftiness", Pierce is probably as good as he's ever going to get. At the same time, he's a legitimate star player whose production and intangibles aren't easily matched. With the current youth movement in Boston, trading him might work out a couple of years down the road but the Celtics should learn from the Raptors' blunder and get the most they possibly can out of any deal involving Pierce.

Then again, look at what Indiana did with Reggie Miller. Even though he's not on the way up, Pierce isn't on the way down either and surely has more than a couple of good years left in him. Miller and the Pacers have proved that it's possible to have a transition phase rather than a blow-it-up-and-rebuild approach and they look to be in great shape as a result.

The bottom line? The Celtics would be unwise to pull the trigger on any Paul Pierce trade before they really have to and before an appealing deal comes along. If you must rid yourself of a star player, you must also look for the best possible deal in return.

Dont ever believe rumours created by RealGM and you'll never have to worry about confusing which players where.

To stay on topic....Paul Pierce is another star player than cant lead a team therefore has massive value decrease. He has the ability to be a top 5 defensive player in the league but I think hes just too unhappy in Boston for him to really try and step up his game to the max. Remember hes only hitting his real peek now, these next 2-3 seasons should be his best season if he isnt wearing green.

Hopefully we can get him.

Until their younger players like Green show that they aren't just filled with potential, then Pierce will have to stay.

Mon Oct 10, 2005 4:00 pm

Isn't Pierce's contract expiring soon? I think he'll leave before the contract ends, which should be soon.

Mon Oct 10, 2005 5:07 pm

What I think about pierce??
he won't be an all-star anymore. New schoolers will take his position there.

Mon Oct 10, 2005 9:24 pm

Pierce is one of those immensely talented players that you can't win with (just like Marbury)

Mon Oct 10, 2005 9:42 pm

Reading through this thread, one bball related thing popped into my mind... One hell-of-a-player, but chokes at the clutch!

You just get that kind of a vibe from this thread... That is the kind of player that can carry you most of the way, but can't get the win in the end.

And Andrew, if you keep only one guy and blow up the rest of the team, isn't that just blowing up and starting from scratch too? Miller was there, but every other player around him has changed from the mid 90's to this date... Do you think they could have kept Miller, if he had a 20 million dollar salary??? Hell, no...

You can keep one or two players on your roster through a rebuilding phase unless you are paying them way too much money... The problem today is that you need to blow up the entire team to get under the cap and to get something done... The player salaries are so high with low-producing role-players get 8 million contracts, so you can't keep anyone basically, if you want to rebuild the team...

Well, my point was that it's possible to go through a transition phase where there's a constant or two and parts are gradually swapped and replaced. Obviously for it to work, the fading star is going to have to take a paycut.

ever since ainge took over, they've been in a transitional period

i think pierce is a great player. a lot of naysayers here so though lol

chokes in the clutch? Pierce was known as Mr 4th quarter the years celtics were in the conference finals.. Well.. i wouldn't say he is a talented star that can't win.. hes won before.. he went to the conference finals.. what do you expect? Kobe can't win either.. can he? He wasn't able to do anything with the Lakers alone..

Pierce is awsome, ppl underate his defence.. I love watching him and Pacesr go at it.. Pierce vs Artest, Pierce vs Al Harrington ( back then )
Last year, he lowered his shots and he shot pretty well... He just don't have the team.. I think a lot of teams are missing a player like Pierce to make them a top team in the league, (Wolves, Nuggets)

Pair him up with another legit all-star.. you have a winner..
I mean.. After Mcgrady, Lebron, Kobe... You pretty much have Pierce up there.. can play both ends.. can hit the 3's.. Clutch... But his prime days are going to be over in like 2 years..

Thu Oct 13, 2005 4:21 pm

Then trade him to the Heat

I was just summing up what the people that had responded in this thread were saying... I know Pierce is a great player, but he's not as dominant as Kobe, TMac, LeBron, AI etc. are... Pierce is too low key and doesn't do the highlight reels... The highlight reel moves make the difference between great players and super-stars... When you pull off a move that surprises even yourself, now that's a guy that can inspire the entire team with his incredible moves and I haven't see these from Pierce in the last couple of seasons. After Walker got back to Celtics last year, well he just lighted up the entire team... Pierce can't/won't do the same... He doesn't have that impact on other players. He doesn't ooze that confidense or doesn't inpsire people to do great things...

Don't get me wrong, he is one hell of a player, but he needs someone charismatic at his side and then they can do a lot of damage, but he isn't "epic" enough to pull it off.

For example take Vince Carter for example... He did that 360 degree turn in the air and hit a finger roll to top it off... Now that was something that lighted up the entire room. Or when TMac hit that fourth three pointer against Spurs last season... These are the people that can win the game by themselves... These guys ooze the confidense and they inspire others around them to give that extra something so the team can win...

Pierce is in a similar situation now, where Kobe was last year... Kobe didn't get anything done last season... We'll just have to wait and see if there is anyone strong enough to lead the Celtics as Pierce isn't the man for the job. Or so it would seem from the outside. And this is basically the reason why he isn't regarded as high as some of the other super-stars with similar skills.

Pierce has seemed very uninspired the last couple of seasons... I think he could benefit from a change of scenery just like Carter did... I think he's a little bored in Boston already... He might get some of that light back into his game if he went to another team. If Boston could get some young good player in return, I think the trading of Pierce would benefit all sides. He is still a high commodity in this league, but his value will diminish he gets more bored than he already is...
