Quite likely, he didn't even know how to spell Hakeem's name. Hakeem + Kareem, quite close. Kareem "The Dream" Abdul-Jabbar? No.

I would rather have Olajuwon tutoring Lakers bigs. He could really make something out of Kwame. And Bynum - imagine Olajuwon's skills in (poor man) Shaq's body.

Agreed, I was quite hyped about Hakeem coaching the Lakers Big Men. His variety of moves > Kareem's.
Sun Aug 14, 2005 8:03 am
Yup, Hakeem had som amazing moves. Unparalleled actually.
Sun Aug 14, 2005 11:05 am
It's definately going to be Kareem though, not Hakeem Olajuwon.

I think Kobe101 confused "Hakeem" with "Kareem" but since his title says "The Dream," I'm thinking he confused "dadreem" for "kareem"

Wasn't Kobe101 a girl?
I'm confused.

WTF!? WHERE DID THAT COME FROM?!

I think he just played basketball like a girl.

this is Kwames final chance in the eyes of fans to make something of himself.
He'll get expert tutorial and there isn't a 1-2-3 combo to launch shot after shot (just Kobe, lol). So he should see more of the ball but really its on him to stop playing like a bitch and start being assertive.

Imo Hakeem is more suitable for Yao, and Patrick Ewing is more suitable for "Bynum & Co."

Your opinion, is my opinion brotha.

I was under the impression that Kareem Abdul-Jabbar was being considered as a Laker big men personal coach..
...but then again I was also under the impression that Kobe101 was heterosexual,oh well.

A great player does not automatically translate into a great coach... Some have it and some don't... Not everyone can coach.
Anyhow, it's going to be an uphill battle for anyone who takes the job. Kwame Brown has certainly done his best not to learn from legendary people in the past. Bynum is still so young that I'm not sure if he will be in the right mind set to really learn from anyone.
We'll just have to wait and see...

every offseason a bunch of big men go to pete newell's acclaimed big man camp. i think this is more helpful then some big name former player with no coaching experience

Jae wrote:I don't think the problem was that someone was trash talking him, I think it was moreso that it was Michael Jordan who he saw as a bit of a hero. Also the fact that he's a teammate, I mean if my teammates said that to me I'd actually think about it in comparison to some guy I'm playing against.
Maybe they should get Manute Bol in to teach him some trash talk... "You motherfuck! Fuck you you motherfuck!'
Sorry for the delay in responding. As for it being MJ, a hero, you have to put it aside. In the 91 Finals, Pippen who looked upto Magic all his life, had to guard him in game 2. He had to put the whole "hero" thing aside while he played. Kwame should have done the same.
As for it being a teamate, you dont think other players had to stand up for themselves? Isiah had to when he first got to the pistons, Kobe when he got to the Lakers, Iverson when he got to the sixers etc. Just becuase a teamate goes off or trash talks doesnt mean its an excuse for a players under performing.
Mon Aug 15, 2005 5:36 pm
The thing is, not everyone is mentally strong enough to put up with that sort of thing. I'm not justifying the way he's acted or anything, or even defending him for that matter but if it's been shown that he crumbles under that sort of pressure then it would be stupid for someone to come in and start doing that to him again.
Mon Aug 15, 2005 5:40 pm
Maybe not.. if he intends on being that superstar player, he needs to learn how to deal with it from people like KG, Ben Wallace, Jermaine O'neal in big games when the lakers need him to perform.
Mon Aug 15, 2005 5:45 pm
Well he's been in the league a few years now so I'd hope he's learnt to deal with that sort of thing. He's still a bit of an emotional headcase though.
Mon Aug 15, 2005 8:18 pm
they should give me his job. at least im not a bitch!
Mon Aug 15, 2005 11:11 pm
But you have less skills than he does?

Bynum went to that, Pete Newell was pretty complimentary about him.
