Steve Nash named MVP

Postby NefariousBC on Sat May 07, 2005 6:30 am

Breaking news on espn.com. I was rooting for Nash over Shaq all this time and I'm happy for Steve.

He deserves it, but I think at least there should be co-MVPs.

I'm glad Nash won it because Nash turned the Suns into one of the most dominate offenses in the game, Shaq has done what he has been doing for years IMO and Nash turned Stoudemire into a star, even though he already had it in him, but Nash gives him easy buckets 90% of the time.

No surprise here. Nash was a clear favorite for a while, and while there you'll see Shaq here, or TD there, Nash was always in the running. He made the game easy for Marion and Stoudemire, and the Suns wouldn't be first in the league without him. Too bad Stockton didn't win one in his career :(

MVP is not monitered by talent alone. MVP means most valuble player. Steve Nash was the most valubale player on the Suns, who were the best team (record wise) in the NBA. He is the MVP of the league! No doubt about it in my mind, and my mind is usually pretty biased towards Indiana. Look at where the Suns were without SN, they were in shambles! Disarray! The suns don't even look like a very good team when SN is sitting on the bench!!!

Don't worry Shaq fans. Shaq will win Finals MVP, which is the REAL MVP award.

Wait a minute... Don't you need to reach the finals in order to win the Finals MVP?? Unless Shaq somehow trades himself to Indiana right now, it aint happnin

I didn't think the voters would have the guts to do it, but it's well deserved.

Then someone brought up a plain, simple fact that cannot be ignored: Steve Nash isn't even the best player on his team! I love Nash, but he's no MVP.

Neither is Shaq. Miami would still be flailing away at NJ (who are just about as good as the Cavaliers) without Wade, heck NJ would probably be up a game without Wade.

If the award is "Best 1 on 1 player" that goes to Kobe or LeBron. But that has nothing to do with MVP, which is about what player brings the most wins to his team.

An MVP who averages under 16 points per game just doesn't seem right. I still equate Nash's importance to Stockton's to the Jazz in 1997. I feel he's an MVP by default; besides, there are more factors to the Suns' success than the addition of Nash. Not to say Nash doesn't deserve it at all, but I would have gone with Shaq.

Amare Stoudemire's development continues (at the same rate it had the previous year), Joe Johnson continued to improve, they acquired Quentin Richardson in the offseason and traded players they weren't using for Jim Jackson. Nash isn't exactly toiling alone or making completely terrible players look good.

Indeed I did - Marion had another fine year and while playing with Nash certainly helped, it's not as though Nash made him overachieve.

IMO, he deserves it a lot. He showed that his team needed him and he also showed that he was a good leader. Plus, they made it to the playoffs and I am happy to see him win this award.

I love his teamplay a lot! That's the way basketball is meant to be played.

It's debatable, but i think there's a conceptual issue. MVP is not highest Production, it's Most Valuable. If the MVP was Most Valuable Person, Phil Jackson would have grabbed quite a few without a single point for his leadership & decision making. If the MVP award is really Highest Production, look no farther than KG.

If we should not look at intangibles and just go by raw stats, why is Shaq even a contender? Nowitzki, Amare, Garnett, and Tuncan amass more offensive & defensive stats than Shaq.

If we judge MVP to the player whose presence causes his team to win the most games...it's Nash over Shaq.

Can't be both ways, either you look at hard stats and give the MVP to Garnett, or you look at Wins & intangibles and give it to Nash. Shaq is in between the two.
