Just for the record I don't like 2pac and I don't like mainstream rap either, except Nas maybe.

Even Kurt Cobain isnt a all around genious...yes he did have a degree in english but his lyrics arent very dynamic....plus he wasnt a person you would wanna idolise due to his problems with cocaine etc....Nirvana were popular when Kurt was alive but his death greatly increased the legacy of the band.

A death of an artist causes their popularity to increase no matter what genre.

He never had a cocaine addiction. It was heroin. The main reason Nirvana was so big, was because Kurt came out of nowhere and change the entire music that was being heard.

The legacy he made even when he was alive, was the idea that he saved rock and killed off pop music that was dominating the media.

Only because the people signing artists to big labels don't know anything about rap. See: Chingy, Ja Rule.

They know exactly what they are doing, do you think they give a flying fuck wether the rappers they are signing is a actually a talented rapper? They are just looking for the rapper that sells records (etc Ja Rule, 50cent), if he is a talented rapper or not is less important, as long as they sell. To quote a known rap refrain "it's all about the benjamins".

Exactly. I can see how some rap is ok, but it's so clouded with people like 50 Cent it's unbearable. I like rock more anyway, but I think I could like rap if all I heard wasn't 50 cent and ja rule. Anyway, I'm white, so I'm not allowed to like rap (I love laughing at the white kids who wear pink g-unit hats and those g-unit sneakers with huge shorts).

Just because you're white it doesn't mean thay you're not allowed to like rapmusic.

I just came up with that there are two different kinds of audience-
2pac - black audience
Will Smith - white audience

I like rock more too nowadays. I used to be a pretty hardcore rap fan before though but I guess that I have grew out of all that stuff now.

BTW: orderd "Queen Live at Wembley" DVD yesterday 8-)

Well one of the main reasons you may not like rap is because you don't listen to enough to where you hear more than just 50 cent and ja rule. Yes, you hear their songs on the radio alot, but there are alot of other rappers music that is played, at least where I live. In some cities that I've visit like Phoenix, they play the same music over and over again on this rap/r&b station. I heard one song about 6 times throughout the day I was out on. Another reason why you might hear alot of 50 cent and ja rule is because you live up in the northeast kind of near New York, so that's mostly what they play up there. In the south, the rap is alot better and *CRUNK* (define on urbandictionary if you don't know what that means). The southern rap has came a long way and the south is just owning all other rap.

The South is far from owning rap. I don't think you can ever beat NY. South can't even beat the seperate boroughs of NY. Queens takes it, BK takes it, Harlem takes it, Long Island takes it. Hell Riker's takes it.

Like I said, there's too different types of music. The south has crunk music, whereas NY has music like hip-hop and people like to nod that heads to it. If your in a club, you would hear more southern music, like a crunk club. If you go to BET right now, you will see that most of the rap and even some r&b is featured on most of the top 10 shows (MAJORITY).

You have artists such as: Mike Jones, Paul Wall, Three 6 Mafia, Lil Jon, Ludacris, Outkast, T.I., Lil Flip, Young Buc, Ying Yang Twins, David Banner, TRU (Master P), Lil Wayne, Yo Gotti, Trick Daddy and that's just a few. I have yet to name R&B singers like Usher and I don't know where alot of R & B singers live so I can't speak for them as I can for rap.

South owns...can't mess with Rap-A-Lot or Houston.

Scarface, Z-Ro, Trae, Devin, UGK....that's major ownage.

2pac - black audience

half of 2Pac's fans are white, hell, probably more than half.

Old school groups mostly. Rakim, EPMD, De La Soul, Busta Rhymes and Public Enemy

3 6 - they alright
Luda - solid good
Outkast - amazing, but they're not the crunk music you're talking about
TI - alright
The rest of them suck, but I haven't heard any Yo Gotti or Young Buc. I don't think I have at least. And you say South but fail to mention UGK, Scarface (+ Geto Boys), Devin Tha Dude or Goodie Mob. Them plus OutKast is my southern top 5.

I agree with Matt I reckon most of 2Pac's sales these days are from white kids. Which is actually good in a sense, at least it's someone respectable and not the usual G-Unit/Chingy type shit. I remember when I was like 13 or something I bought a Scarface CD that was on sale for $5 at Virgin and it was awesome, I was so proud of that purchase  it was my best bargain buy until I found the Best Of Creedence Clearwater Revival for 75 cents at a garage sale :headbang:

Yeah, I suspect so. What I meant was which crowd 2pac were trying to to do music for. Ppl like himself in his earlier days: black, poor, struggling ppl. Not white, rich, spoiled kids.

well, just because your white doesn't mean that you can't be poor & struggling. When your poor your poor, colour doesn't matter.

2Pac's music, not all of it, can be easiest to relate to because he always was going on about a broad topic....poverty, teenage pregnancy, crime....etc, things that affect all races.

and remember, all rap is not made by 50 cent and money driven sell out assholes
