Isiah asks Carter

Postby Clinton on Sun Feb 09, 2003 6:08 pm

At training today Isiah Thomas brought the whole team together to finally sort something out. Will Jordan start the All Star game?
Thomas said McGrady and Iverson had earnt their spots in the starting lineup through their great play this year. He said Jordan would not take one of their spots. Thomas then went on to say that the only person who can give up their spot for MJ is Carter because he hasn't earnt it. Isiah asked Carter to make the decision. Carter said "Your looking at the wrong guy."
So as of now, MJ is coming off the bench. Unless Vince has a change of heart.

If that's what took place, then it seems as though the Eastern squad would be happy with MJ starting - except Carter. Isiah Thomas is the coach...the words "Carter Freezeout" come to mind.

Hey Clinton, that's what silly Walton said, we can't confirm that. I don't think Thomas had the Guts to ask someone chosen by the fans to leave his spot, I mean, why wouldn't he ask those that have already offered it?. That's just Walton saying complaining cause Carter didn't offer it, something Carter is not forced to do.

Carter was voted as a starter by the fans....why should he HAVE to give up his spot and why should he HAVE to play less minutes because Jordan's on the team? It's simply not fair to Carter...he hasn't played all year and he WANTS to play...let him.

No Shane you don't get it, Carter is the source of all evil, obviously everybody wants Jordan to start instead of Carter, right?

No wait I'm forgetting something.. ah yes.. Carter was voted in... so I guess people do want him to start.

Jordan doesn't want to start either.
Besides, I think it's pretty low from Isiah to do such a thing if he did. It's none of his business, he doesn't have any right to do that. I think he's just still holding a grudge against the Raptors because they started to become a good team once he left the organisation :P

Hey Clinton, that's what silly Walton said, we can't confirm that.

I'm pretty sure a reporter said it, then Walton and Scott went on to discuss it. Walton shared much the same view as Isiah.

I mean, why wouldn't he ask those that have already offered it?.

Because Isiah believes the guys that have offered their spots, deserved their spots. He said the only guy who doesn't deserve his spot in the starting lineup can give it up, Vince Carter.

Carter was voted as a starter by the fans

And what a crime it is.

why should he HAVE to give up his spot and why should he HAVE to play less minutes because Jordan's on the team?

Because Jordan deserves the spot more then Carter. Because Jordan is the greatest player we have ever seen and is playing in his last all-star game. Because MJ only needs 10 points to become the leading scorer in allstar history. Because he should have that respect for MJ. The same respect TMac and Iverson have shown by offering their spots.

It's simply not fair to Carter

Looks to me that Carter got lucky. Starting in the allstar game on reputation alone. Nothing to do with his play this season. I am really gonna laugh if he injuries himself in the allstar game. I know it isn't a great thing to say but it would be funny.

Besides, I think it's pretty low from Isiah to do such a thing if he did.

You mean like he did to Jordan.

I think he's just still holding a grudge against the Raptors because they started to become a good team once he left the organisation

I think he is quite happy coaching the best team in the East.

No reporter said anything, if so it would have be shown somewhere. I just saw an interview with Thomas as well, and there he said he didn't do it the way Walton was describing. He was asking someone to step down, and looked at Carter, that's when he answered. He didn't ask Carter to make his decision or anything like that. I just told you, it's Walton comment.

He said the only guy who doesn't deserve his spot in the starting lineup can give it up, Vince Carter.

Carter deserves his spot, MJ was not chosen to start, he was.

Because Jordan is the greatest player we have ever seen

Does that we means you and company?, I have seen better so I don't get in that group, I'm not that young to just see MJ.

Looks to me that Carter got lucky.

So did Yao, so what? That's what voting is all about.

Well as Carter was being announced they also announced he gave his starting spot to MJ.

He didn't ask Carter to make his decision or anything like that.

He did. And Carter made a decision. He gave up the spot.

Carter deserves his spot

What?!?! :? He knows he didn't.

he gave his starting spot to MJ.

Yes he did, too bad. But not cause Thomas ask him.

He did. And Carter made a decision.

He didn't. You don't have any proofs but what Walton said, the same Thomas described the situation. You are just being stubborn in not admitting it. Carter decided that by himself.

I didn't get to see any of these interviews, but I would say that the added pressure did play a part in influencing Carter's decision, because Carter was sticking by his decision. Something must have made him have a change of heart.

Of course, most of you (fans) were complaining that have lost respect for him for not offering it. He thought to himself, I'm not going to look bad there and lose some of my fans cause of this. He decided I guess. But my point is with the original post, Thomas didn't ask him to decide or anything like that. Thomas just looked at him, that's when Carter answered "you're looking at the wrong guy", and I'm not saying this Clinton to bother you, you can watch sports center by yourself so you can hear it from Thomas, it was in today's edition at 7 pm ET.

Even I didn't vote for Carter, thought he was going to keep it that way, with respect for those that voted for him. However, I guess he did make a good choice, he will have MJ fans around him now.

Good to see him missing dunks again. Go MJ.

Just out of interest, if this was any other player except Michael Jordan (who you don't seem to like), would you feel this way?

I'm a Michael Jordan fan, but I don't think that Carter should have stepped aside. I do think it's very noble that he did.

Why? No one caused this much of a ruckus when Penny Hardaway, Grant Hill, and other injured players have been voted to the All-Star game. Sure, they complained, but they didn't bash a player in a way such as this, calling it a crime...

Clinton wrote:Because Isiah believes the guys that have offered their spots, deserved their spots. He said the only guy who doesn't deserve his spot in the starting lineup can give it up, Vince Carter.

Why doesn't Carter deserve his spot? It's not like they're playing based on stats...if they were playing based on stats, Jordan wouldn't be playing either, now would he?

Clinton wrote:Because Jordan deserves the spot more then Carter. Because Jordan is the greatest player we have ever seen and is playing in his last all-star game.

Even if Carter had started instead of Jordan, Jordan STILL would have gotten right around the same minutes as he would have if had come off the bench.

Clinton wrote:Because MJ only needs 10 points to become the leading scorer in allstar history.

Wow. There's a good reason...

Clinton wrote:Because he should have that respect for MJ. The same respect TMac and Iverson have shown by offering their spots.

That's either respect or looking for publicity...I'd go for the latter rather than the former. Carter respects Jordan just as much as Iverson or McGrady does, maybe more - there's no way we can know - but just because he doesn't want to give up the award to a popularity contest doesn't mean that he doesn't have respect. Besides, what respect has Vince Carter gotten in the last year? He wants to prove himself, and sticking to his guns seemed to be a way to make himself an individual...however, in the end he caved in. His interview about it seemed less than sincere....

Clinton wrote:Looks to me that Carter got lucky. Starting in the allstar game on reputation alone.

Isn't that why you wanted Jordan to start? Because of his reputation? Isn't that the only reason Jordan started? Because of his reputation?

Clinton wrote:Nothing to do with his play this season.

If that was the case Jordan wouldn't be on the team and Stackhouse or Ricky Davis would have his spot...you'll say the coaches picked him over them, but the NBA would have shit if Jordan wasn't in this All-Star game...

*note: not bashing Jordan, just saying there's players that are more deserving than him this year to be on the team, just like you're saying Carter doesn't deserve to be on the team. Look at the stats...

Clinton wrote: I am really gonna laugh if he injuries himself in the allstar game. I know it isn't a great thing to say but it would be funny.

That would be hillarious! Someone just gets back from injury and they get hurt, hahahahahaha...what kind of sports fan are you?

Clinton wrote:You mean like he did to Jordan.

Carter did to Jordan? You mean didn't offer his spot? It's not like that was a requirement...

Clinton wrote:What?!?! He knows he didn't.

But he does deserve it. Why? The fans voted for him.

Yes, I would. If Ricky Davis offered Tracy McGrady his spot, I would think it was noble, but I don't think that Latrell Sprewell should have to give up his spot just because it was offered by another player.

This is rediculous, Carter should have started. Jordan is full of shit, going on about how he didnt want to start and then he does it anyways. I think it's kinda obvious that either the league or Thomas forced Carter to give up his spot too because Carter was pretty set in his decision to start and then at the last minute he changes his mind...very odd....I guess it's ok though because Jordan is just making a fool of himself trying to become the leading scorer all time in all-star games. What is he 3 for 12 with a blown dunk...lol  he deserves this...

You don't have any proofs but what Walton said

Walton did not make this up. A reporter who was present at the East teams practice witnessed the meeting going on. Walton did not just make up this little tale in his head.

Good to see him missing dunks again. Go MJ.

What one? Typical hater comment.

Why doesn't Carter deserve his spot?

Because he has hardly played all year and has got into the starters without any effort.

That's either respect or looking for publicity

Yeah, that's why TMac and Iverson offered their spots, publicity, nice one. They respect this man. They all look up to him. It's respect, nothing else.

Isn't that the only reason Jordan started? Because of his reputation?

No, because it's his last allstar game in his last NBA season. Carter will have plenty more allstar games to go to.

Stackhouse or Ricky Davis would have his spot...

Stack's injured and Ricky Davis hasn't being playing that much better then MJ.

That would be hillarious! Someone just gets back from injury and they get hurt, hahahahahaha...what kind of sports fan are you?

One who thinks a player should worry about his own team before risking another injury in an All Star game. What sort of sports fan are you for not wanting the greatest player to play the game start in his final allstar game?

True, but he STILL was voted onto the team. Therefore, the starter's spot was HIS. MJ got on the team because of his reputation, why couldn't Carter?

Hypocrisy? I think so.

Clinton wrote:Yeah, that's why TMac and Iverson offered their spots, publicity, nice one. They respect this man. They all look up to him. It's respect, nothing else.

Why would they do it so long ago and make it public? Wouldn't it have been better to surprise the public with Michael Jordan in the lineup for whoever as opposed to all this drama? Their offering their spots causes problems for other players who don't, it makes them look bad. Look what happened to Carter.

Clinton wrote:No, because it's his last allstar game in his last NBA season. Carter will have plenty more allstar games to go to.

John Stockton, Karl Malone, and David Robinson. Where are they? It's their last seasons, how come they're not in the All-Star game? Jordan was on the team because of reputation. Simple as that.

Clinton wrote:Stack's injured and Ricky Davis hasn't being playing that much better then MJ.

Figured Stack was hurt, but you said it yourself: "that much better"...therefore, if he was playing only a little better than MJ, he's more deserving, no?

Clinton wrote:One who thinks a player should worry about his own team before risking another injury in an All Star game. What sort of sports fan are you for not wanting the greatest player to play the game start in his final allstar game?

Couple things on that one:

1. Every player is risking injury playing in the pointless All-Star game. Antione Walker has a severely injured knee, yet he played...Carter's 100%...

2. I don't think he's the greatest to play the game, and I don't think he should have started. If he had come off the bench, he still would have played 36 minutes because he's friends with Thomas...

Carter didn't get hurt, and he also didn't shoot 30% from the floor...

silly Carter just proved to be one of the worst defenders in the league...

meanwhile KG and Iverson both had Kick ass games...

Jordan's shot...unbelievable...

Jermaine's foul...unforgivable...

it's goot that carter let jordan start...if carter would have started he would have screwed the game up even more...

meanwhile...kick ass thinking by Adelman about Ming...he knew that the voting was unfair...so he let Ming play his deserved time....

Shaq seems to have good passing technics...so does Miller...

Walker and PIece sucked bad...

Benji was too short...

Jermaine proved to be THE defender of the game...

KIdd's move on Marbs was bloody funny...

Ming traveled on that ally-up...since both of his feet were already on the ground the second he dunked it :)

Kobe's goaltending was a cheap shot...silly refs...

Iverson kicked ass in general...

Kidd should never shoot 3's again...

Payton didn't play enough...

Jordan should hasve dunked it...

The ally-ups in general were amazing...

and in genweral...this was a GREAT All-Star Game!!!

MJ got on the team because of his reputation

No, he got in because it was his last ever All Star game. If this was his second last year, he wouldn't get the starting spot. We are farewelling a legend. Just like Magic in 92.

he was playing only a little better than MJ, he's more deserving, no?

No, because as I'll say again, it's MJ's last All Star game. It would be wrong not to include him.

Carter didn't get hurt, and he also didn't shoot 30% from the floor...

He also didn't have half the game MJ had. So it took a while to get his shot going, but we got to see some classic plays and a great buzzer beater.

Shaq seems to have good passing technics

What about Shaq running the point. It was a thing of beauty. Killer Crossover and all.

this was a GREAT All-Star Game!!!

I agree.

All this hypocricy is making my head hurt...

First, there's the thing about Carter deserving his spot or not. Nobody seems to have a problem with Yao starting, even if he doesn't deserve it. Shaq missed half the season up until now, yet he deserves it according to everyone. Carter returns from his injury, leads his team to wins, yet he doesn't deserve it... hypocrites.

Second, there's the thing about Jordan. Last All Star game or not, he didn't deserve to be there based on his play this year. The record of the Wizards isn't good (the Raptors' isn't either, but it is with Vince in the lineup). Then people can't even admit Jordan gets in based on his reputation alone. That would be the least thing you could do, especially when all your arguments point in that direction. Jordan shouldn't have started, Jordan shouldn't have been in the All Star game based on this season....hypocrites.

Third, there's the thing about haters. Every comment about Carter is passed without any comment, then Jordan misses a dunk, it's posted, and boosh! a hater shows himself... hypocrites.

Fourth, there's the game itself. Jordan shot badly, but "we got to see some classic plays and a great buzzer beater". Come on, you know that's just being silly... hypocrites.

Last I just want to compliment Isiah Thomas on his great great coaching... great distribution of the minutes, great decisions... what a hypocrite.
