Kings vs. Suns: bad call on Miller shot

Postby John WB on Thu Feb 10, 2005 7:21 am

Look at this: http://broadband.nba.com/cc/playa.php?c ... &video=pod

Suns had the 2 point lead, and Amare's block on Miller was ruled legit, but you could see on the replay it clearly looks like a goaltend.

It's over the rim when he knocked it away. That's a goaltend.

It was a goaltend, he blocked the ball when it already was in the 'imaginary cillinder' above the rim.

Geez, that was no goaltending.

Goaltending is when the ball goes down, not up. If its at the peak it isnt a goaltending. It was a fair call and wrong play by Miller who should have tried more than just play a sissy knowing that three suns are right next to him.

I mean come on, the guy is in the left side down below and he bends to try and shoot the ball in front og the basket and not side or off the backboard.

He'll learn from his mistakes, and that was a fair block.

Props to Cat Mobley for defending his teammates.. he ahd a different arguement. The block was a clean block but Cat said something bout C Webb being held onto so that Amare could get to miller or something.. can someone clarify this?

u did know he had to just throw it up, i dont think he play it sissy, if you look at the time on the clock and when he shot it, he didnt have much time, if he had few more secs, i would think he try to dunk it

But you can't block a ball if it's in the "imaginary cilinder" above the rim. Doesn't matter if it's going up o down. That's a goaltending, too.
After I said that, it was a great block (Y)

Clean blocks are blocks that have no way of going in and the player knocks the ball pretty much as soon as it leaves your hands or pretty early in the shot, not as it's already reach its arc.

Clean block. The ball was still going up. In the end, the person to blame is soft Miller. Dunk the ball next time.

And in response to mobley, if you watch that video Marion is being pushed to the floor by webber, marion wasnt holding him. I must say Mobley fits in with the kings perfectly...already a whiner.

Just to get it clear for all of you, it wasn't a clean block. What I mentioned about the 'imaginary cillinder' is true.

In the NBA they have this rule and the one where you can't touch it after it has reached his highest point.
In Europe we don't have the first rule with the cillinder above the rim, I even read an article from players on the US olympic team, they had to get used to the rule difference.

It's a goaltend.
