Hi all,
I thought it would be cool to have a thread for videos and discussion of the classic NBA.
Let's start this off with Vince Carters 50 point game against Iversons 76ers in the 2001 ECSF. He hits 8 threes in the first half here, thought for sure he would set a record that couldn't be caught with that pace. Hell of a game by Vince.

Good idea to have a topic for some retro talk from time to time.

There are quite a few YouTube channels posting old games, highlights, and in some cases, a few rarities. You can even find old episodes of NBA Action, with Jim Fagan!
Speaking of the channel that's from, In All Airness, Adam's got a great podcast as well.

For me, classic is the late 60s & 70s...
IMO, still the greatest playoff game in NBA history.

Andrew... how awesome is that? They should bring that show back... with the same voice... gets me really pumped up.
Jeffx, "Classic" as in past NBA. I could have said "Retro", wasn't sure which word to use. I consider classic as happenings in the NBA that are not recent.
But yes, that game was amazing. I've watched it a few times on youtube.
How about Jordan's 50 point timeline? Maybe the best video I have ever seen.

NBA Action is still running, but it hasn't been the same without Jim Fagan (who sadly passed away earlier this year). I guess it's also become a bit redundant with up-to-the-minute news and highlights online. Back in the 90s though, that was how you caught up on news and highlights, especially if you lived outside the US. Good times!
I'll have to sit down and enjoy that video when I get a moment.

That opening is bizarre. Hogan, Flair, Savage, Rock, Austin...and Miz.

Grant Hill, he could literally do it all. Might have the quickest first step as a SF in NBA History.

That Pistons jersey. Suits the era of no success pretty well.

Yeah, they never were able to put in super successful seasons. Hills last two years before injury they made the playoffs, but were dispatched in the first round.
They never really had good teams, however adding Stackhouse made them more formidable in the late 90's.
Hills injury happened when he was 27, just about the enter his prime, it's sad really.

I still like that Pistons jersey and logo. The teal admittedly is a strange choice, but the blue and red version of the "horsepower logo" looked pretty good. They could've run with that a little longer.

Jordan pours in 51 on the Hornets at age 38.

Posted on the official NBA channel in honour of Shawn Kemp's birthday. Can't go wrong with some Reignman highlights.

Christmas present from my brothers: Authentic red 83-84 Portland TrailBlazers Clyde Drexler road jersey.
These early/mid 80's Blazers teams (and jerseys) are some of my favorite of all time.

Awesome present! When I think of Blazers retros, I tend to think of the ones from the late 80s onwards, but that's a good one.

Funny enough, their first year with those jerseys they raced out to a 43-14 record including a 20-4 start where they were a game behind the Bulls (the one they lost to the Bulls) for most of it... before finishing 11-14 over the last 25 games and losing in the first round.

That version actually was the teams "official logo" during both Carlisle and Finals runs years, so one year shorter than the teal version. They just didn't keep it at center court or seemingly use it anywhere. I think the secondary version was on the baseline for a bit.
Teal and dark purple crept into a lot of jerseys in the mid-1990s because they were the hott color of the era and the Hornets did mad merchandise sales, that's why both the Grizzlies and Raptors went with essentially those colors. And the Jazz emphasized it. The other trend of the era was "movement" in the logos, thus the Rockets.
I remember an ESPN article where they had fashion and branding people critique the new uniforms and logos for the 1996-97 season along with recent and upcoming changes like the expansion teams. Mainly because the article was salivating over the Pistons jerseys/logo along with the Jazz's new river through the mountain logo (though less so with the jerseys). The one thing they all agreed on was that the Timberwolves had made terrible choices that they'd go back on. They wound up keeping them until KG left and the immediate replacements were only updated versions of them until this years drastic change. Other than the Celtics/Lakers/Bulls I doubt any other teams went for over ten years without changing their jerseys in that span, maybe any recent ten years. Unless you maybe count the Blazers, Spurs and Knicks keeping their general concept while tweaking the collars, etc. I guess the Heat would be close wouldn't they. Only had two jerseys in their entire history.
I guess in theory the Thunder have only had one jersey.
In all of those instances I'm not counting the hundred thousand variants that got worn on special occasions or for a season or whatever.

I always liked that Timberwolves logo and the jerseys from that era as well. I remember reading praise for them back in the day, though obviously they weren't universally liked and acclaimed.

I like the jerseys circa the Walton era, with the vertical "blazers".

Those are nice as well.
I think I'm kind of partial to the jerseys from when Drexler was playing, as I loved those teams and he is one of my favorites all time (and, he is underappreciated and underrated now).

Agreed. I guess we're all partial to the designs we grew up with.

Here's a classic 80's game
November 14, 1986 Boston Celtics vs Chicago Bulls
Michael Jordan 48 PTS vs Larry Bird 37 PTS
Wed Jan 17, 2018 2:30 am
Love that.
Raw Jordan was still the best player of all time, and Bird is in my top 3.
Wed Jan 17, 2018 4:35 am
He was not yet, but he's still
Another classic proposed by YT on my home page :
No internet theses days, NBA was only on pay per view channel (canal +). I remember that my best friend lent me a VHS with this game ...

Barkley flat out dominating.
Sat Jan 27, 2018 7:59 am
1969 NBA Finals Gm. 7 Celtics vs. Lakers (4th Quarter), incredible quality

Good vid, sticky-fingers. I randomly watched your vid, was fun.
I think the refs kept the game closer than game actually was supposed to be. Great game nonetheless. Still, fuq both the Dirtics and Fakers.
