how about Fredrick Weis? He was too scared to come cuz he might get dunked on by Vince Carter again lol

What about Travis Knight? That guy was nothing but a bench warmer for the knicks..they finally released him and I think his career is now over since no one wants him.

LaRue Martin is certainly an excellent candidate. I think he'll definitely be one of the options when we put it to a poll. Good pick, magius. (Y)

I think Yinka Dare has to be one of the frontrunners. Even though he was drafted 14th overall as a project, he never showed any promise. He holds the distinction of having one of the worst rookie seasons in the history of the league (1 defensive rebound and 1 missed field goal in 3 minutes of court time), his best season saw him play 58 games, start 23, play an average of 10 minutes per game and average 2.8 ppg and 3.1 rpg.

For his career, he played in 110 of a possible 328 games, averaged 2.1 ppg, 2.6 rpg and 0.1 apg in 9.1 mpg, took three years to register his first career assist and never showed any signs of improvement or talent whatsoever. He's probably a popular choice with a lot of people, though LaRue Martin's status as a first overall pick gives him some worthy competition.

Jim McIlvaine was a tall guy really overpaid by the Sonics. His career ended really early, though he was a decent blocker.

And with FT%, Buck Williams had a better % at FG than at FT !

Is it just me, or do Aussie players have trouble in the NBA? IT seems that there have been very few to make it big from Australia in the NBA, like of early last season, Shane Heal, who was signed by the Spurs, who played like only one game, but was also signed as an f/a back in '96 at the Wolves, and didn't last long. Of course I'm aware that this is the 'Worst Player Ever' thread, but I'd just like to mention those who from Australia who have been picked up, and then fallen. Don't get me wrong here, the're good when playing for Australia, but other than Luc Longley and Andrew Gaze, there's not much to cheer about for the Aussies in the NBA.

First, Chris Anstey. Was in a brief stint with the Dallas Mavericks and Chicago Bulls late '99 and 2000. Played for Australia several times but failed to make his mark in the NBA.

Secondly, Shane Heal. Known as 'Hammer' has had no luck like Gaze did with the Spurs and although a very consistant shooter and great player for Australia, failed to also make his mark.
That's all I got for now, but if anyone want sot comment on that or add, fell free to do so... :D

wow LaRue Martin sounds like a true bust...I think he has to be the worst considering he was a mid first round pick and not a 2nd round pick.

I still think Zaza takes the cake at blowing the most. He's lucky to draw iron at any part of the court. I went to see his first game. 2 airballed FT's, AND an airballed LAYUP. LaRue and Yinka are all-stars compared to Zaza.

Oh, and as far as Aussie players go, I think Luc Longley is one of the most under-rated centers of all time. True he wasn't great, but he was well-rounded, which was rare in the early nineties, before Dirk, Big Z and Arvydas, there was Luc.

add rex walters and dennis hopson.

hopson: Consensus 2nd Team All-American, 1987... Selected by New Jersey Nets in 1st
round (#3 pick overall) of 1987 NBA Draft.

oh, i'm sorry after looking up chris washburn's career stats i came across a player that i forgot all about, Dwayne "pearl" Washington, and he has to be ahead of yinka dare as a failure because he was supposed to revolutionize the point guard position whereas yinka was always a project. i remember some scouts saying after he got to the nba that not only did he not deserve to be drafted, he didn't even deserve a free agent tryout. and i think he also once admitted to someone privately that he couldn't handle the worst guards on his team in practice.

actually you could arguably pick the worst player ever from the first two rounds of the 1986 draft.

Muresan wasn't so bad. If I remember correctly he won an MIP award, so he's far from worst.
I think really tall players like him don't have a lot of speed or agility and most of the time have really awkward ball handling or shooting so they look bad compared to a speedy athletic PG or a muscleman PF or C.

Mengke Bateer.... he doesn't get a lot of exposure, but you all should see him "play." Absolutely vomit-inducing.

Mark Pope can be considered here also.

2 BOS Len Bias Maryland

Let's not hate on Len, man. He would've been a great player. He was great at Maryland, one of the best players that school's seen. It's not that he sucked, he just died.

Yeah Mengke and Wang Zhi-Zhi are both pretty bad. So much for Chinese taking over the NBA.

Jim Mcilvaine of the Sonics was pretty bad. If I remember correctly, he was making about 6 million a year. He never averaged more than 3 points.

not hating at all, that's the complete first two rounds of that draft, only the players with the lines after their names were the ones i thought could be considered. i was looking for washburn's stats and came across the entire draft and noticed that almost that entire first and second round produced busts, but not every player obviously.

We could have got Artest with the 15th pick but didnt.

Knight is one of the worst players I have ever seen, he was overpaid by Pitino in Boston and was one of Scott Layden's stupid acquisitions.

hmmmm worse ever...

Postby lakergreat85 on Mon Jun 21, 2004 2:09 pm

Worse player in the league right now, thats tough, I would probably say Tony Battie, im not a fan of his, he has never really brought anything to any of the teams he's played for. Vin Baker now is also pretty terrible (not positive he's even still around)

i say ne Aussie except 4 Luc longley who eva TRIED 2 play NBA - Chris Anstey - was sposed 2 become the T-Wolves gun Centre then he went 2 Chicago 2 take ova 4 Luc Longly and he just did nuthin
Shane Heal - i saw 2 of his games at the Spurs his job was just 2 stand in the corner and if he got it and was open shoot the 3
Andrew Gaze - did a Darko at San Antonio did nothin and got a ring and if im correct he came bak 2 Australia during the finals and 4 the rest of his NBA career he also did nothin

all thses guys were guns in the NBL, hell Gaze is Australia's greatest player and Heal is very 2 close but they were shithouse in the NBA and it probly just proves how crap the NBL really is
