That would be pretty weird for the coaches to vote on a bench player, unless his stats were outstanding.
Kobe was the only one that I remember, and it was only because of his popularity among the fans. I seem to remember three other Lakers on that West team.

Very little. He was the sixth man, averaging around 15 ppg and providing fans with highlight reel plays. I don't remember many people having strong objections about him being in the game. I'm sure some people were opposed to him being there, but it was nothing like the anti-Kobe sentiment that exists today
