The East Playoff Rankings

Postby Fresh8 on Sun Mar 14, 2004 8:46 pm

Well...the teams going for a berth...in their records aren't shown to be very exciting...I guess they've already got a Top 5 teams sorted out from records...

1. x-Indiana --
2. * New Jersey 8.5
3. Detroit 8.0
4. New Orleans 14.5
5. Milwaukee 15.0

If this is the Top 5...there are some teams trying to get to the playoffs...and even though it maybe argued that they arent as great as the Western Conference teams...maybe this will shape into a very interesting run towards the Play-offs...Now, these teams have a chance:

6. Cleveland 20.0
7. Boston 20.5
8. New York 20.5
9. Miami 20.5
10. Philadelphia 21.5
11. Toronto 22.0

They are all 2 games within each other...but which 3 will get knocked out?

Will Bron and Booze take the Cavs to a posteason in LJ23's rookie season? Paul Pierce is stepping up to try and get them back into the Second season...New York after all the trades are looking to make it too...will Starbury do it?

Will Allen Iverson fail to get his team there, especially after all the injury problems that have plagued the team...Toronto and Miami are both bringing up the rear of the competiton...

But who will fail to make it?

I think this will be the East's Play-off seedings:

1. Indiana (49-16)
2. New jersey (40-24)
3. Detroit (42-25)
4. Milwaukee (34-31)
5. Cleveland (29-36)
6. New Orleans (35-31)
7. Boston (30-38)
8. New York (29-37)

I predict a Hornet's late season fall and a Cavs surge while New York wins 8th place...wat do u think?

I'd say 6th for new york. Just wait till allan houston regains his form, vin baker and tim thomas start producing and deke gets off the ir. they have depth, and veterans who can produce in all facets of the game.

allan houston's last 3 games have been right on par with his averages, if not better

penny, baker, anderson, and morris are pretty decent options off the bench

if kurt thomas is your standard, then i can name an infinite list of vets that can produce in all facets of the game

New York won against Milwaukee...Philly lost after Iverson sat the whole game out...and Cleveland is still on its roll...beating Indiana!

My picks:

1. Indiana
2. New Jersey
3. Detroit
4. New Orleans
5. Milwaukee
6. New York
7. Cleveland

The final seed will be either the Celtics or the Heat. Right now, I can't decide. I believe the first five seeds will remain as they are right now, but New York and Cleveland will battle for six and seven, with the Knicks prevailing at the last minute.

Thank you crawford4mip, you pretty much covered everything, excpet for the dikembe comment. He is much better off for new york at centre. he can defend, rebound and is a big body. If new york does come out of the east (yes it is a possibility) im expecting a cameo from him like last season against duncan.
And vin baker and tim thomas have been contributing, sheriff austin. Look at the boxscore for today vs the bucks

np... i didn't comment on the deke thing because i haven't him seen him play enough with marbs and the rest of the makeover knicks...

1 indiana
2 nj
3 detroit
4 milwaukee
5 cleveland
6 N.O
7 nyk
8 miami

i think 1-3 are locks. they should be all well rested heading into the postseason

N.O is on a free fall and i see cleveland passing them up, with of course help from the nba refs. lbj is already getting superstar treatment. no doubt stern (edit) DOESN'T want his precious superstar facing a slow down team like detroit in the 1st round of the playoffs.

nyk should make it but they will also see their fair share of calls going their way- stern wants gotham city back in the playoffs.

i'd very much like to see miami make it, but i can see toronto sneaking in

New jersey vs New York in the first round would be very interesting... actually the entire east has some very nice matchups, they may end up being more entertaining than the west. I still think Indiana is one of the top 3 contenders in the entire nba.

can you then name any other roleplayer on the knicks roster that has better averages than kurt thomas this season???
penny, baker, anderson, and morris are pretty decent options off the bench

the knicks need more from penny than being a decent option off the bench.. i agree w/ your comment on anderson but lenny wilkens does not give him the playing time...
allan houston's last 3 games have been right on par with his averages, if not better

allan houston is earning more than kobe... he should be giving better numbers every night...

dont get me wrong im a knicks fan but i really dont like lenny wilkens as coach... maybe when they get mike fratello then they willake a difference in the east...

i don't like lenny either...he started off OK but I don't like some of his coaching decisions. I'm a bit dissappointed Mutombo shoould of gotten more time before he got injuried basically since he is big. He brought size, blocks and rebounds to the team and Nazr just don't seem to be as intimidating in my opinion.

you're asking for a role player to have better stats then kurt thomas, who has been a starter for most of the season?
the knicks need more from penny than being a decent option off the bench

what are you expecting? the old penny? penny can give good minutes off the pine at multiple positions and is reliable enough to be in at the end of games. that's good enough for me
allan houston is earning more than kobe... he should be giving better numbers every night...

his salary is not the issue here. earlier you're saying 'can we wait forever' for him to regain his form when he's already had a string of games where he's hitting his averages. take your salary issue with your former GM. he's the one that gave houston that ridiculously huge contract

i don't see why you have this pessimistic attitude. a few months ago that NYk irrelevant. isiah turned the team team around and most likely this team is heading into the postseason.

the reason he is starting is because there is no other roleplayer on the team that can contribute as good as he does..

his salary is an issue here... if he does not take that much cap space the knicks could still get better players....

and the only good move isiah did was get stephon and trde weatherspoon..
he hired the losingest coach in NBA history...

ok roll guys aside...

the reason he is starting is because there is no other roleplayer on the team that can contribute as good as he does..

no- it's not a matter of finding someone better then him. kurt thomas is starting because he is a quality big man. i think with the exception of about 6 teams, he would be starting as the pf or c on every nba team

isnt it pretty obvious what i am expecting??

you're an idiot if you're expecting what i'm suspecting

his salary is an issue here... if he does not take that much cap space the knicks could still get better players....

the point i'm making is that earlier you're saying 'can we wait forever' for him to regain his form when he's already had a string of games where he's hitting his averages. his salary is an entirely different issue

and the only good move isiah did was get stephon and trde weatherspoon..

yeh that move instantly turned around a dead franchise. is that not good enough for you? or do you think they gave up too much to get starbury?

he hired the losingest coach in NBA history....

and the nba's all-time winningest coach. even if wilkens style may not fit anymore with today's players, isiah could have done a whole lot worse

it's ok if you selectively respond to my responses, i'll give a break to a fellow pinoy

it just amazes me how you are asking for the impossible here. when the season started, nyk was going nowhere. and it was going to be a while before the knicks could get themselves out of their own mess. the roster was full of undersized pf's, their best asset was untradeable because of his ridiculously high contract, there were numerous dead weights with high salaries.

then isiah pulled a genius move and got marbury for scraps. he gave up a few draft picks but at least now knicks basketball is worth watching and the team will be in the playoffs.

still you act like you're not impressed and expect better.

how about that tim thomas performance last nite?

well then that makes me right on my comments about him...

i was actually excited when he was traded to the knicks but after a few games he really dissapointed me... still good performance last night... hopefully he will continue playing like that..

Actually you were saying they were pretty bad. I projected them to finish 6th, and you totally disagreed. 6th in the east is not that great...
but isiah's style would fit today's players... isiah would do a lot better than wilkens...

Isiah doesn't want to coach and be the gm. What limp was saying is that he couldve done alot worse with other candidates out there. Lenny wilkens is a players coach, and he is one of the top 5 coaches in nba history imo. He was as big of a steal for the knicks as maybe getting stephon from the suns.

didnt you read my earlier post? i said i was impressed by the moves they made like getting marbury but i never said i was impressed by the way they play.. i think cleveland and miami will finish ahead of them...

did i say he wanted to?

Lenny wilkens is a players coach

 are you kidding me???
he is one of the top 5 coaches in nba history imo

to be more specific he is #1 in wins and #1 in LOSSES...

darth- kareem abdul jabar holds the all time scoring record but shame on him since he probably has missed the most shots in nba history

yes, lenny wilkens has the most losses in nba history. also in his coaching resume:
hall of fame coach
-owns the fifth best all time playoff winning percentage
-coached a championship team. those numbers would be much better if some guy in chicago hadn't played in the 90's.
-has won the Coach of the year award
-named one of the top 10 ten coaches in NBA history.

what coaches had a better coaching resume then that and were available at the time?

which coach do you think isiah should have hired then? keep in mind isiah wants to have total control over personnel, that his hire came in the middle of the season, and that wilkens might not even be around next year

if i were a gm and i were hiring a coach i would have only one prerequisite --- that he be white. this isnt racist, but look at the facts -- the best teams have them......... dallas (nelly), sac (adelman), san anton (pop), lakers (jackson), pistons (brown), memphis (the old brown), utah (sloan - only mentioned cuz of utah surprise), indiana (carlisle), new orleans (floyd), houston (van gundy), etc., etc..

im not sure about wilkens -- he's not quite white, not quite black....... a wild card!

now to the knicks, i really like the knicks, but theyre missing something -- hmmm, believe it or not i think lafrentz would be a good fit here....... just stretch the floor and let marbury play iso and dish off doubles to a variety of players who have mid range games and, with the exception of kurt, long range games as well..... and if they dont double, well, playing marbs straight up with no help is disastrous. lafrentz also isnt too far removed from his 3 blocks per years, so defensively you could funnel the defensne into him because the rest of the starting knicks are fairly good man on man defenders. its too bad the knicks had to trade lampe because he couldve become a pretty good player, but if it absolutely had to be done to get marbury then so be it.

sweetney's looking good, but he's a tad undersized for a power forward...... on the other hand carlos boozer isnt playing too badly either......

Wilkens is a great coach if you have a star point guard and veteran players, and thats exactly what NY has. He gives PG's more freedom than almost any other coach will, to him the PG is to go out their and basically do what he wants.

This topic only serves to remind me that before the season started, I had a 20 dollar bet with an acquaintance that Cleveland will miss the playoffs and on top of that a 10 dollar bet with the same dude that Carmelo will win Rookie of the Year. Go ahead, laugh at me....

1. indiana
2. detroit
3. new jersey
4. new orleans
5. new york
6. miluwakee
7. miami
8. cleveland

cleveland is built for the playoffs and indiana is built for the regular season -- if they meet like i predict then i foresee big potential for an upset. detroit and miami will be a historically low scoring affair, detroit wins because right now they're more talented with the addition of the other wallace....... by the way im really up on miami's future....... let me tell you why, odom is playing stellar (maybe next year he can bump his assist back up to 6? 17, 10 and 6 would be mini garnett/birdish), wade isnt getting as much talk as those 'other two', but scoring 17 points per game on 47% shooting coupled with 4 assists and 4 board is very good for a first year combo guard, butler is dissapointing big time this year, but i give him growing pains and blame it on the sophomore jinx, i think he can bounce back, and then you got the marvellous eddie jones and good role big men in allen, haslem and grant, along with alston who could foreseeably average 14 and 8 given a regular starting job.

anyway, troit will beat miami, jersey will knock off the bucks, and i think the knicks have a marginal chance of beating the hornets -- davis, marbury will be fun to watch either way. i'd really like to see jersey-new york, the atmosphere will be amazing and a kidd-marbury duel would be scintillating.

i think cleveland, detroit and very big maybe on new york are the only 3 easter teams that have even a hint of a chance against a western powerhouse in the finals. cleveland because of ilguascaz, bron and energy bunny boozer, detroit because they can d up on even a 5 man scoring threat team (dallas, sac) though if troit meats san anton or la they will probably lose because they ill equipped to handle duncan or shaq (might be able to annoy garnett though i doubt it), wallace is a great help defender but he cant handle either one-- nobody can. and new york because mutumbo could handle big men fairly well and marbury brings his game to new heights during big games.

my picks for the west are the spurs and my wild card is the twolves -- i call them a wild card cuz theyve never escaped the first.
