Dwyane Wade for ROY?

Postby fgrep15 on Thu Feb 26, 2004 10:00 am

Wade is amazing, a point guard shooting close to 48% and scoring 17 ppg is un-heard of these days.
His numbers aren't far away from Lebron and Melo's, and he's got a very good all-round game. Many people seem to think b/c he's had his 3 years in college (didn't play one year) he's so much older than them, but he's only 2 years older.

I see him progessing in the future and being a guy that can score 20-25 ppg. His handles and passing I think will also improve, and he'll be a 20, 6 and 6 player. His rebounding I think will get better, and when he learns more his passing will also improve.

On the defensive end he's aleady a very aggressive player, and if he continues this he's be a great defensive player. Wade is 6'43/4 but his 6'103/4 wingspan allows him to get blocks and steals, and his amazing quickness allows him to keep up with offensive players. He has the quickness of the quickest point guards, the size and strength of a 2 guard, and with his wingspan he plays like he's about 6'7 or 6'8.

He also has underated atheleticism and dunking ability, the guy has posterized a lot of people this season. When he goes to the basket he is able to absorb contact and still finish, and unlike many other players he does what he's best at which is slashing, and doesn't try to be a three point bomber. (Lebron you need to hear this buddy)

The ROY is probably out of reach for him though, Lebron has the hype, Melo has the popularity b/c of Denver's winning, and Wade just isn't given as much credit from the media.

If it was the last three years that he came in, he would probably have won it but coming in the same draft as Melo and Lebron killed it for him.

Wade has a great upside and will go very far in this league maybe even an allstar next season if he keeps up playing like he has the last 10 games or so.
But at the end of the day this is LeBron's year like it or not he will be ROY imo but Wade is in the top 3 in the running for ROY (Y)

yea i never knew he could jump so quickly. for a 6'4 guard, i saw some of his highlights in that denver game and he was jumping so quickly and dunking it. he is a great player, but i dont know if he should be ROY. if the cavs or nuggets dont make the playoffs, then i think he would win. if they do then it will be a very close race, but it will be lebron that would win it.

Damn... at first I didn't believe he was anywhere near 17 ppg. But I just checked his stats and he has 17, 4.3, 4.3, with 1.38 steals per. This is a great year for rookies. But I think the ROY award should go to Lebron.

as great as Wade is, he doesn't have the publicity that 'melo and lebron has. He should have a fair shot at it, but its basically a 2 man race since both are bringing 2 teams from the NBA bottom into playoff contention now

maybe if he was playin for NY or LA or Philly .... he can have a better chance of winning ROY. Being in Miami, he doesnt have much publicity.

As everyone else has already said, Wade is doing great, but LeBron's having a great rookie year, one that is worthy of Rookie of the Year honours. His popularity and the hype surrounding him clinches it. Even if they were to select a co-ROY, Melo would get the nod over Wade.

Yea thats what I was saying, if it was the past three years, he'd probably win it, but coming in the same year as Lebron and Melo is just unlucky for him.

Finally a deep and talented draft class, which we haven't seen since 96 when AI, Marbury, Reef and Ray Allen (to name a few) entered the league.
This year we got Bron, Melo, Wade, Bosh, Hinrich

NBA Draft 1999

Brand, Francis, Baron, Odom, Szczerbiak, Rip, Dre' Miller, Marion, Jason Terry, Maggette, Artest, Kenny Thomas, Kirelenko and Ginoblil (but he didn't play that year so he doesn't really count)

My bad, lol, I guess I forgot about that draft class, was it the season when there was the lock out? Since I didn't pay much attention to that season.
But you gotta admit that '96 draft class was one of the best

I'm a big fan of Wade. I hope he doesn't turn out to be like a steve francis in the future. I've seen some highlights of him dunking over people, i can't believe why he did not compete on the slam dunk competition..

I think it was unlucky for any rookie coming in this year thats name wasnt LeBron or Melo if they were looking for ROY honors, the hype was so big on these to player that even from draft day the ROY award was a two horse race. Wade shouldnt even be thinking of awards and just keep playing like he his, at the end of the day imo Wade would rather have the heat in the playoffs playing well as a team than him winning ROY.

That's what I was thinking. LeBron and Melo have got so much more hype than Wade and they have lived up to it, unlike many thought they would. Wade has had a great year, with Miami just hanging on to there playoff spot.

What I see is a tie for ROY. Melo and LeBron, but Wade is in a close 3rd.

D.Wade

Postby Nitty25 on Sat Feb 28, 2004 9:51 am

No doubt D.Wade is a good rookie right now. Despite the fact that he is playing out of posistion at the point. But the simple fact is he can't win ROY. He is just not better than his counter parts Bron or Melo. Melo should be the rookie of the year because his team is 5 games over .500 and he plays in the tougher conference by far. Now if D.Wade doesen't make the all rookie team then thats a problem.

Surely there's no way Wade can be left off the All-Rookie First Team. There are no restrictions on position, and he's one of the top three rookies in the league this year.

Theres no way that will happen, like Andrew said there's no restrictions on position its just the 5 best rookies which Wade is one of for sure.
IMO all rookie first team will be...
Bosh , Melo , James , Wade and Hinrich

Second team...

T.J. Ford , Jarvis Hayes , Marcus Banks , Udonis Haslem and Leandro Barbosa

IMO... :)
