Conversations can do that. But you should read it because it answers a lot of people's unasked questions about athleticism and race.

This may be one of the most interesting threads I have ever read on the NLSC. Very interesting theories being tossed around. Hopefully someone can find some links to back up them up. Butt muscles?? come on..

In fact...this is going to seem weird but there is no genetic difference between black people and white people at all.

i know for a fact that Black ppl and White ppl have a different pelvic bone structure, so that may not be the only difference. And there's also a race that has thicker skulls than white ppl

The fact is that Blacks are usually better dunkers than Whites. The reason is certainly not biological, but more social. In a general way, Black people live in poorer conditions than White people. So Blacks invest more in sports to try to find the "exit" of a certain kind of poverty.

It's only a trend, I don't want to generalize to everyone. :)

And it's all because of me :)
Anyway, I wish that there is no biological differens between differens races.
It would suck bigtime if it was a fact that black people jumps higher.

Statements like these are exactly why I took it upon myself to answer this question. These ideas were created by ignorance and xenophobia. They also make me very angry. I hope both of you guys read this thread and some of the links and make an effort to understand the ways things really are instead of spreading ideas like this.

(If this is offensive I apologize...I'm commenting on the idea...which someone obviously incorrectly told you...instead of you as people.)

I saw on the history channel that archeologist with the help of biologist were able to excavate bones of the "first americans" and compare them with asians to see how long it took for them to differ in race. Sorry i cant be more scientific about it...but i do believe science is advance enough to tell the different between races by bone structure or whatever the case may be.

While environment does play a major role in not only the personality but physical conditioning of a family or a race...i think it has been proven that the genetics of these things can be also passed on. Now if blacks have adapted over time to be more athletic since our times in africa...and that eventually makes us "evolve" into a better physical conditioning..then doesnt mean that blacks are being born with that prowess?

Life for the modern day black is nothing like what it was used to be during slavery. Some of us laze around in the inner cities and dont do anything but sit on our asses...yet we're still so good at sports. So in essence if you raise that point..it would be fair to say that blacks are born like that generally.

In closing, I dont know about where you guys are from but i see it everyday. Guys who have never played a lick of sports in their lives but when they get on the court..or start running...they jump unbelievably high..even though they cant do anything else...or run very fast. I see this more often in my black peers than i do in other races..including latinos. This was the case for myself also...while i wasn't the highest jumper...being able to dunk at 6 foot tall is something i used to feel proud of. I think thats where the "stereotype" comes from..it comes from people's experiences. If that experience is shared amoung many people...then it becomes a stereotype.

EGarrett- Thank you for your last post :) ; that is what was bothering me the most about this thread!........................ Some people are still ignorant about race, and others are still being taught to be ignorant.

The rest is just harmless discussion.

Reportedly, Earl Boykins can dunk. Do you believe it? Have you seen him dunk?

Desmond Mason: "I haven’t seen him do it and I don’t believe it. I’d have to see him do it to believe it. But T.J. Ford can dunk. You might not know that."
Moochie Norris: "Doughnuts and Milk. Doughnuts and Milk. If he can dunk, I might have the ball boy dunk for me."

Glen Rice: "He probably can do a one-hand dunk. I believe it."

Quentin Richardson: "I wouldn't be surprised. Earl's unbelievable, but I haven't seen him do it."

Aaron Williams: "I'll believe it when I see it."
