A lot of "Point Guards" playing now are more scorers at Point Guard height. I think Jason Kidd is one of the few true point guards in the league now, ofcourse he's not the best ever. I'd say Magic would be the best

I figured you would take him over Kidd in the best at the moment, since that is what we were talking about.

Sorry for the misunderstanding, but I still dont understand Alston over Kidd, he's good, but not better.

Why did Jerry West just drop so low, I don't even know what to say about that one.

Archibald was better than Cousy, might not have all the awards but he had more guard competition in his time, just look at his career best season 34ppg and 11.4 apg while shooting 48.8%, Cousy never even shot 40% or over once in his career.

Kevin Johnson was also real good and better than Cousy, he averaged a double double with points and assists for 4 straight seasons after his rookie year. (21.2ppg 11.1apg in that span), also shot over 50% 4 years in his career and has a total career average of 49.3%.

Cousy only previaled over Johnson and Tiny in rebounding, but then again how many prominent big men were there in Cousy's time.

GP a better pg than Isiah and Stock, maybe, those ones are at least more feasible.

How come you have Van Exel, Snow and Jason Williams, and gave no love to Starbury, Cassell and Arenas. hmmm....

In my opinion, Baron isn't there yet
Kidd is the best, see him dominating games? he is amazing, he gets his teammates on fire , dunk after another
Baron is probally quicker on defence, gets more steals, better offensive scorer, but Kidd is fearless , he gets on the boards and starts a quick fastbreak like no other.

Baron is #2 Nash is #3
Kidd is just soo dominating through out the game, right when he forces a miss shot , secs later, Nets score cuz of Kidd and he is back on def with his team.

Strange, you're a New Jersey fan. ;)

Kidd's one of the top two point guards in the league this season, but I have to give the overall edge to Baron Davis. B-Diddy's taken his teams to two more wins, and the Hornets have quality wins against the Lakers, Portland, and Kidd's New Jersey. The Hornets have lost to teams they shouldn't have, like Chicago, but so have all the other teams in the NBA. The Nets are leading their division, but it's a weaker division, so that doesn't really mean much; if New Orleans were in the same division, they would be winning the division.

As for a head to head comparison this season, Kidd has him statistically, but not by much. The difference in those stats, though, are primarily in the assists, free throws, and rebounds. Kidd doesn't have the likes of Robert Traylor, Jamaal Magloire, and PJ Brown in the front court; he has Kenyon Martin, Jason Collins, Aaron Williams, and Richard Jefferson. Kidd's always been a good rebounder, but then again, he's always been on a team with no real inside...he had Mourning for a little while, but I don't think that counts.

The assists...I can't fully comment on because I've only seen one or two hornets games this year, so I don't know how they generally play; however, I know that Kidd and the Nets are great on the break, so that generally allows for more assists, especially for a point guard with vision, ball handling, and passing ability of Kidds. But like Kidd had no real post presence on his teams, his teams were built to run, and the players he played/plays with thrive in transition. Baron Davis and the Hornets play more of a half court game, from the little bit I can see, and knowning somewhat the way Tim Floyd coaches, I can see that.

In no way am I knocking Kidd's skills, because they're there, but I don't think he's the best point guard in the league this year, or ever. While he's a great passer, a great defender, and a smart player, a lot of his statisical success stems from the type of system that he's been present in...he's always been with players who could run and jump...

Of course, like your little numbers, what I just wrote was completely objective...

Fast Breaking

1. Kidd - 5
2. Lebron - 4
3. Nash - 3
4. Miller - 2
5. Payton - 1

I'd put Payton higher up on that. The Lakers are at their best when he's breaking and when they're at their best, they are the best, so I'd have to put him higher on the Fast Breaking because he always seems to be looking to push it, especially this year.

Clutch Play

1. Marbury - 5
2. Kidd - 4
3. Cassell - 3
4. Francis - 2
5. Van Exel - 1

Clutch in what? Making shots? If so, then I'd have to put Nicky V up higher because he always seems to be hitting the big shots, and I'd put Kidd lower because his J isn't really consistent, and he isn't the most reliable on his team. I'm guessing that you're talking about clutch offensive play, since you made one list focusing on defense mainly.

Baron 2nd?, he's a good shooter but very streaky, I think Cassell and Bibby are much better. Nash - 5, Cassell - 4, Bibby - 3, Baron - 2, Payton - 1

Ballhandling
1. Francis - 5
2. Marbury - 4
3. Kidd - 3
4. Nash - 2
5. Payton - 1

How did the Baron not make the list? :(

Clutch Play
1. Marbury - 5
2. Kidd - 4
3. Cassell - 3
4. Francis - 2
5. Van Exel - 1

Cassell is number 1 in clutch performance, watch some old Cassell tapes, especially when he was with Houston. Van Exel should be second to him, and I don't even know if Kidd should be in the list but if so then 5th.
Cassell - 5, Nick - 4, Marbury -3, Kidd - 2, Franchise - 1

Defense (this counts double because Defense is half the game)
1. Kidd - 10
2. Payton - 8
3. Miller - 6
4. Davis - 4
5. Marbury - 2

I don't know if this is statitical defense or the players overall defensive ability. Kidd is not that great an on ball defender, he's good though. Snow -10, Payton - 8, Arenas- 6, Kidd -4, Davis -2

Another Category:

Halfcourt offense
1. Cassell -5
2. Franchise - 4
3. Starbury - 3
4. Baron - 2
5. Billups - 1

watch some old Cassell tapes, especially when he was with Houston.

That was then. If I watched old tapes of Gary Payton in the mid/late-90s, I'd give him more points over Kidd, but this is now, so we should be watching tapes of their play now.

Just watched Wolves and Hornets go at it.. great game..
Cassell can really shoot... Baron penetrates and drives well.. but he is still nothing compare to Kidd in dominating the game.. Kidd dominates the game off the ball.. It is amazing if you get to watch Nets games..
Baron is your typical explosive guard.. like Francis but jacks up more shots and much better defensively..
Baron is very good.. but Kidd is one of the great point guards..
I just like how Nets run their offence , when Kidd gets the rebound.. the other team's def is already too late to react facing a fast break.

Maybe i haven't seen Baron's better games on TV.. But Kidd does more than his stats..
