Like I said, trading Garnett would be the worse thing this franchise could do. I'll tell you why.
1. Garnett does everything on the court. He is one of the best defensive big men in the game, he can stretch the floor with his sweet stroke, he has the best footwork in the league in the post, great post moves, one of the best passers in the league, can handle the ball and he is the best rebounder in the league. So you make a trade you'll have to get all that back + more to make it worth while. He brings more to the table than 3 average players combined.
2. He means too much to the state of Minnesota. If he was to be traded Minnesotans would flip out of at the Timberwolves franchise. The attendance right now it low and if you traded Garnett it would be even worse. There might not be a team in Minnesota if the team deals Garnett.
But overall, you will not get equal value for Garnett. He is one of the best players of all time, why deal him so you can get a "starting five"? Why not just get a starting five in the off-season? They have the MLE to work and a trade exception they got in the Boston trade. Plus, Garnett has carried teams that aren't filled with much talent to the postseason before. You don't have to have a star studded lineup to get into the postseason with Garnett.
Simply put, it's a lot easier to re-tool around Garnett than it is to re-build without him. We have one of the best players of all time in his prime, why in the world would you willingly want to deal that? What do you think they could get in return? Okur and Boozer for him? No team is going to give up enough so there is no point in dealing him. He is a Timberwolf for life and that is how Garnett, Taylor and Minnesota wants it.
