Richardson Outscores Agent Zero in Bobcats' Victory
Jason Richardson was unstoppable on Thursday Night, shooting 13 of 17 from the field and came away with 29 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 steal, and 1 block to lead the Bobcats past the Washington Wizards and their league leading scorer Gilbert Arenas, who had 23 points, 6 assists from 9 of 14 shooting.
Charlotte led the entire game, and once had a 21 point lead early in the 3rd quarter, but Washington rallied from behind near the closing minutes of the 3rd and cut the lead to 12 at the end of the 3rd, and even tied the game 3 minutes into the 4th, but Charlotte, led by J-Rich, would make a final run that put Charlotte up by 18 points to end the game, 109 to 91.
As expected, the Charlotte Point Guards struggled to contain Gilbert Arenas, with starter DJ Augustin getting only 4 points, 6 assists, 2 steals in 22 minutes (out of 32) of play, Main Backup Raymond Felton with 4 points (2 of 9 shooting), 6 assists, 3 steals, but had 5 turnovers in 14 minutes of play, Larry Brown turned to Yuta Tabuse for the late parts of the game, and he did not disappoint, in the 10 minutes that he played, he scored 9 points from 4 of 6 shooting, dished out a game leading 8 assists, and had 1 steal and 1 rebound. Another impressive bench player for the Bobcats was Jermareo Davidson, who was very impressive on the defensive end, and not bad at all on the offensive end, he came away with 8 points (4 of 4 shooting) 4 rebounds, 2 steals, and 2 blocks to end the night, what's most impressive was the 2 blocks that he made was on the league's leading scorer - Gilbert Arenas.
"it was surprising really, he just came out of nowhere and swatted the ball away, both times, i didn't really see him coming" said Arenas after the game.
However, despite the win, Head Coach Larry Brown didn't look entirely happy with his team's performances. "I thought they weren't playing their hardest tonight, we got off to a big lead and the guys got too comfortable with it, and allowed the Wizards to make a comeback; another thing is the Free Throw disparity, they made only 2 of the 12 attempts taken, that's not acceptable at this level, those 10 points may well be the deciding factor of the game; and i just think they took too many bad shots, they took 13 3-pointers, and not all of those were the best shots we could have taken, i think these guys are going to need a bit of time and understand how to properly run an offense. But overall, i think we have what it takes to make a breakthrough (make the playoffs) this season."
