The Bobcats made lots of changes in the Offseason following another disappointing season, which resulted in the firing of Ex-Head Coach Sam Vincent, and the Hiring of Larry Brown, it then followed with Michael Jordan becoming majority owner, 17 year old Leo hired as GM, the Blockbuster deal that led to the acquisition of Shaquille O'Neal, and the signing of Yuta Tabuse.
It seems like it's worth it.
The Bobcats Dominated the Milwaukee Bucks at home in their 2008-2009 Season opener, Outscoring them in every quarter, and dominated down low as Shaquille O'Neal, Emeka Okafor, and Jason Richardson combined for 51 points.
The Bucks were led by Luke Ridnour, who was said to be below the skill level of the Bobcats' Rookie Point Guard DJ Augustin, he went against the odds and led the game with 24 points, alongside 7 assists, however, he picked up 5 fouls and had 8 turnovers as the 28 year old Yuta Tabuse pressured him with his incredible speed and quickness coming off the bench replacing Augustin.
Bucks stars Michael Redd and Richard Jefferson were shut down by Raymond Felton and Jason Richardson, respectively; Felton, who came off the bench replacing Matt Carroll at the 2 spot, contested against Redd's shots and limited his shots, while Jason Richardson kept a distance from Jefferson to limit his ability to get to the rim, forcing him to take long range jumpers, and thus reducing his shooting to 8-18 from the field and 19 points for the game.
Shaquille O'Neal, who showed flashes of the past in the preseason game against Houston, dominated yet again down low, outplaying Bucks' Center, former number 1 overall pick Andrew Bogut, and came up with 16 points, 10 rebounds, 3 steals, and 2 assists to take the Jordan Player of the Game honors.
On the other hand, Jason Richardson looked to lead the game with his scoring abilities, although off shooting (9-19 FG), he came up with 20 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists, and 1 steal; while former number 2 overall pick Emeka Okafor had 16 points, 7 rebounds, 1 steal and 1 block.
Yuta Tabuse was the 6th man of the day, leading all bench players in scoring, assists, and steals, ended the game with 11 points, 6 assists, 5 steals, and 2 rebounds while only playing 11 minutes.
