Saw Get Smart and Kung Fu Panda: mostly what'd you expect from previews: good escapist movies though.

How was the Kung Fu Panda? As I have tickets, I´m thinking if I should go and see it.

Q, its no more offensive than any other kids movie that comes out. They all play on stereotypes plain and simple.

Like i said about Kung Fu Panda: it was alright, good to kill a quick hour and a half, but nothing to write home about

Also watched I'm Not There (bob dylan flick), Day Watch (russian flick), and Vince Vaughn's Wild West Comedy Show. I'm Not there is the first movie i've turned it off in a long time...why would you need to "spice up" the story of bob dylan with non linear storytelling and so much symbolism it'd choke a horse? Theres' making a film and then there's pretentiousness.
Day Watch was odd and i missed a good bit i think due to add and missing some subtitles. The action in it was cool though.
Vince Vaughn's Etc.- ONe of those typical crappy comedy tour movies that has little standup and shows you "insight" into the comedians as if you give a shit.

I saw the Bucket List when it came out and also recently bought the DVD. Really touching and sad in the end. Makes you wanna go out and do all those things you never had the guts to in the past.

who hasnt? People are racist, cartoons are art, art reflects people so once in awhile the art shows racist views of the people creating it. I'm not saying its right: especially for humor. But i didnt feel kung fu panda was racist, more trying to pay tribute to the lore.

Q, the second cartoon is a propaganda cartoon, it's supposed to be racist to mock the japs during its day. What do you expect, it's war.

The first one gave me a few laughs though, they have a carousel and whistling quartet! Also the tree climbing.
I doubt the purpose of that cartoon is to represent the entire "black race" as savages. There are only two racist/stereotype instances I saw in that one. Tribes people being labeled as cannibals (even though the character being cooked is an animal), and them being governed by a white person, the queen.

If you liked that, watch its sequel Night Watch.
Or you could just read the book it's based from, if you can find an english version.

well I'm not going to say that Kung Fu Panda was outright racist. in saying so would make someone who's trying to make a big deal out of nothing. It's not even close to a lot of the cartoons back in the 50s and whatnot. however, i am a little bothered by the fact that Asian culture still is so foreign in America that the only thing Asians are good for is kung fu. it would be like making a cartoon about a chihuahua with a sombero who happens to be a gardener or a strawberry picker.

You're Asian so your opinion doesn't matter. Go back to making your sneakers and harvesting your rice, Ping Pong.

NOW THATS RACISM

Time to get this topic back on track..racist jokes lol.

Finally saw Semi-Pro.
It's a good thing someone linked to this site before. I remembered what I saw in that site being parodied in the film, which made me enjoy watching it even more. I was expecting someone in the film to wear Osh Kosh B'Gosh overalls or a rainbow sweater but it doesn't matter, the film had me laughing.

My favorite parts/lines of the movie are about the fighting, especially the one that involved a commercial. "Somebody hit somebody!"
And Jackie Moon's speech after that. Classic, I guess it holds true for all team sports. About their team having a unifying moment by punching other guys in the face.
The civility of the owners meeting is also hilarious. Lol at the commish telling the owners to limit the fights to the parking lot or tunnel area.

Jackie Moon's player intros are good as well.
"His brother's a retard" and his teammate who's the luckiest man in Flint.
Add Father Pat being the fodder. Which is the same treatment for NBA referees.

How can I forget the poker game scene. Where they would rather be called a cocksucker than jive turkey.
And the "players" involved in that blockbuster Monix trade.

Had me laughing in stitches, except for the hohum serious parts. Good film overall. I'll even rate it higher than Talladega Nights.

A lot of his movies seem to be the same story told with different characters, though I suppose that's true of most of the Frat Pack movies and other SNL alumni, such as Adam Sandler. That's not necessarily a bad thing, you go with your strengths and if the dialogue is funny it doesn't really matter but Will Ferrell's stuff is a bit too repetitive for my liking.
