Any sort of opinion "question" should be made into a thread, so people can discuss it, instead of packing it all into one, where a bunch of stupid discussions talk over each other.

It's first usage no doubt pre-dates most of the popular examples because it's hard to imagine the shot (or one very much like it) wasn't utilised in over a century before the smaller guards of today made it popular, but going back to the previous decade Tim Hardaway tended to use a tear-drop like shot, often after his famous killer crossover. That's not to say he invented it but he probably helped popularise it with players of similar stature that followed him.

really? I could've sworn he was like 6'11" or 7'. maybe it was because he played Center for the Sonics & pacers towards the end. No wonder those Sonics teams had a tough time winning in the west. No one could rebound on the team.
