Dynasty Rookies

Talk about NBA Live 07 here.

They need to fix the size of the guards (shooting guards). All of them are so freaking small and if they are bigger than 6'3" their speed and quickness become less than 60. It's so annoying...

Man I drafted a PF in 2K6 and his height was 6'11 which is fine but he weighed 275 and was as skinny as Bosh in the game and couldn't even guard Chris Kaman

Also, who gets drafted at 25 years of age? They should be 18-22, with more variety in ages as well.

This is one of the main reasons I prefer 2k6 even though I started playing Live first. You basically buy the game for dynasty mode unless you play online. Since people are so interested and involved in the dynasty mode they should look to make it the best feature of the game asides the gameplay. tbh the setup and create-a-player mode along with the absense of things like the all-star weekend etc of 2k6 isn't as good as Live but the association mode certainly makes up for it with better training, better draft format with mock drafts and realistic names etc.

ps-EA must introduce the announcers calling the names generated rookies names out.

yep, after looking at the 2k6 rookies, they are a little heavy & a little on the old side (as someone else mentioned)....at least their heights aren't riduclously low....

As for calling out the names, i think the generated rookies with common sirnames, i.e. those the same as existing players, were announced a few years back. Might have been 2001-2003. Dont really remember. But its been a long time, and that, at least, should be easy to put back in the game.

I've seen a 7'1" SF, 265 pounds. Also a 6'7" SG, 251 pounds. :D

Short SGs are a problem...but something no one really mentioned was how old the rookies are. Are there ANY rookies that are, say, 19 years old? I'd also like to see possible rookies in the '07 draft, like Greg Oden or someone, and be able to draft him. :)

They also better have all the current drafted rookies (and undrafted players) in the game. I'm stunned how they wouldn't have Monta Ellis or Smush Parker in 06...

a 6'7" shooting guard isn't too bad (kobe is 6'6"-6'7"), but if you're 7'1", you need to be playing centre. jeepers.

cant say much from personal experience of rookies either way, since ive never played a full season of dynasty/association.

6'6 is the optimum height for a SG, 6'7 definitely isn't too big. Actually, most SGs should be 6'5-6'7 and those of 6'4 and lower should be in minority. And a 7'1 guy doesn't need to play centre, where the hell did you pull out that idea? Darko is 7'1 and is a natural PF, so are Garnett, Nowitzki,...

I think this problem clearly shows the general laziness of the EAS programming team. It could be easily solved, it just that EA Sports chooses to ignore it.

251 pound is extremely ridiculous for an SG... and for 7'1 SF, yeah it is absolutely terrible...

yes, Fenix. They can do it easily if they work on it but they just don't do it... :?

these are good points... but the thing is, if you are gonna play a 25 year dynasty they're not gonna know the rookies. so what they need is a better generating system to generate realistic rookies..

i didnt take weight into consideration there, since i have no idea what a good weight for anyone is. and okay, you could play PF at 7'1", but definitely not SF

Well, the rookies are always rough... You don't want to create rookies that are/will all better than the players in the game. Some guys take 4 years to get their game together (like Kobe, KG) and some are ready to go from the start (LeBron and Carmelo)...

In Live 06, the generated rookies are better than before... I have personally not seen any of those speed 75 quickness 20 guards or nothing of the sort... Most guys have "reasonable" athletic marks. Sure a 6'1" guard with speed 55 is not meant to be in the league, but the fact is that most of the guys that get in the draft and are drafted are not meant to play ball at NBA level in real life.

The 6'1" shooting guard is basically the only problem I see with system. Those guys are too short and usually end up playing point guard in the NBA. And thus we get players like Jason Terry, Stephon Marbury and Mike James that are shooting guards trapped inside a point guards body... Points, that score first and pass second...

The fact about drafting in the real life is that about dozen or so players from each draft do get a nice NBA career... There are a couple of stars in each draft, but that varies alot.

It's not like you get an instant championship with the first pick in the draft... It's not like Joe Smith, Pervis Ellison, "Big country" Reeves, Michael Olowokandi made huge differences to their respective teams from the get go. Its always a crab shoot... You never know what you're going to get...

In Live 06, I noticed that the draft depth is the single most significant factor when drafting players... In a dynasty that I've lately played, after first year, the draft was projected as "Very Strong" and I proceeded to take 7'2" power forward with 1st round pick, a 7'0" center with the second round pick and I traded for a 6'1" shooting guard that was drafted with the 3rd or 4th pick... In the 5th or 6th season, the second round pick center is a monster... The power forward has not improved a lot and the shooting guard became my point guard. The center has 84 overall, the guard has 81 overall and the power forward 78... Overall, all were very good picks and from a strong pool...

I can say that I've had a lot less success with the successive drafts as they have been weak or very weak. The current season has a Strong pool again... I just might have to go trading again...

There are LeBron James' and Dwyane Wade's and Chris Bosh's in the Live drafts as well, but there also are Gilbert Arenas' and Ben Wallace's in there... And yes, as dissapointing as it is, there are Pervis Ellison's and the likes in there too...

Only shooting guards need a bit more height and it's good...

About those 6'5" power forwards... Charles Barkley is barely 6'4" in real life... Think about it...

that potential rating is bogus, i had a 6"9 power foward, excellent potential rating, like 7th overall bout 69 rating and trained him with three assistant coaches (athletism, offence, defense) for 6 years he went to like 74, and he was a starter the whole time. which is absolute bullshit. So basically they should improve rookie progress and development.

some rookies develop so easily but some of them are so annoying...you spend loads of money to train him but they just don't develop... i had a 61 rated rookie(a C 6'11) he developed very well and in his 3rd year he was 70...

The whole scale of things is sometimes bogus... Have you never noticed that you go out and scout a 6'1" point guard and after one scouting session it says the guy is 5'11" tall... You never get the whole truth through the scouting. If you had like the top scout and did a dozen trips, that would make it pretty accurate I guess, but who's got time for that???

I was saying that the best way of assessing draft picks in Live 06 is by looking at the strength of the whole draft... Then finding the players you like, drafting them or trading them and hoping that you got a good one.

I've seen those 7-footers that have great abilities to make them 75 overall and an immediate starter for almost any franchise and they never go higher than 76-77... Or go down from the start... That is so frustrating, but that's just the nature of the beast... Guess how much Wizards beat them selves up for the whole Kwame Brown incident... Sometimes it not just meant to be. Sometimes it takes a long time before young players show progress and raise to their potential, but in today's we want it all and we want it now culture... The wait can be a pain in the ass...

And about the ages thing... You people keep on going about 19 year olds not being in the draft... The age limit is 20 or is it 21 in the NBA today... So no more teenagers ever. That was the single rule change I really hated last summer... People like LeBron James, Amare Stoudemire, Dwight Howard have come in from hs and have had immediate impact... This age thing is just a ploy to up the level of the college competition! Also all that hiring an agent will prevent you from playing for your college team is a load of horse crap... And just plain stupid.

The system for rookies and their development has more than likely changed for Live 07... So I'm pretty optimistic about that.

I did forget about the age limit. (thanks Metsis for pointing it out) But thats still no excuse for the 23-25 year olds. You've got a guy with excellent potential, train him up for 6 years, all of a sudden, he's 30 and his skills begin to decline. And he ends up only playing for 9-10 years, instead of 13-15.
