OCTOBER 2006 SUMMARY

The season kicked off in October with the Bobcats' lone game in LA against the Clippers, who used the No. 2 draft pick to select Aussies Andrew Bogut and their 2nd Round pick on Paul Watson.

I'm trialling a new format, whereby you get to check out the boxscores for the month's games. I figured I may as well considering I scour every boxscore in every game, so it's pretty easy to capture them and show them. To access the boxscores, just click on the team (they'll be in red) to see each respective boxscore.

Image

Oct 30, 2006 - Charlotte 87 @ LA Clippers 102 [SIMMED GAME]

In a game that featured the Watson brothers, this game was clearly one-sided with Aussie Andrew Bogut impressing in his NBA debut as the Clippers rolled.

BPMM Points: Nene 3pts, Walton 2pts, Watson 1pt

November recap to follow later....

NOVEMBER 2006 SUMMARY

November started horribly with 3 straight losses which seemed to suggest another poor start to a season. However, once the team started to gel and Arenas was used a bit more off-the-ball, the team responded and finished the month strongly with a 7-6 record.

The top performer for the Bobcats had to be Gilbert Arenas who seems to have done a lot of soul searching in the off-season as he's come out ready to play. Okafor is also playing well, as is 2nd year guard Watson. New acquistions Nene and Van Exel are providing a spark off the bench and the team doesn't lose much when I go to the bench. However on the downside, Luke Walton and Kyle Korver have been very disappointing to date and the former will probably be shopped for a SG if there is any interest league-wide.

Image

Nov 1, 2006 - Charlotte 88 @ Utah 92 [HUMAN GAME]

This game was a heartbreaker as I crumbled in the 4th quarter as Giricek got going. This game left a sick feeling in my gut for a while. No excuses can be made in this one. Team falls to 0-2.

BPMM Points: Arenas 3pts, Okafor 2pts, Dumars 1pt

Nov 2, 2006 - Charlotte 100 @ Seattle 120 [INTERVENTION GAME]

Game was pretty much over once I intervened as I was down by 12pts at the end of 3rd quarter. Seattle continued its strong play to win this one easily. Bobcats are struggling at 0-3.

BPMM Points: Arenas 3pts, Okafor 2pts, Watson 1pt

Nov 5, 2006 - Charlotte 93 @ New Jersey 97 [SIMMED GAME]

Another heartbreaking loss, this time in OT to the Nets. Arenas seemingly couldn't hit anything. Charlotte has opened the season with a 4 game losing streak in their new black uniforms. A bad omen I guess.

BPMM Points: Watson 3pts, Okafor 2pts, Nene 1pt

Nov 9, 2006 - Charlotte 106 vs Phoenix 102 [HUMAN GAME]

Finally the bleeding has stopped as the Bobcats held on to scrape out a win at home against the blood-thirsty Suns. Although his stats don't indicate it, Hassakis was key in leading the Suns' failed comeback. Team is now 1-4 having stopped the 4 game skid.

BPMM Points: Dumars 3pts, Nene 2pts, Okafor 1pt

Nov 12, 2006 - Charlotte 107 vs Minnesota 93 [INTERVENTION GAME]

Coming into the 4th quarter, the Bobcats had built a nice 8 point lead. However, the T'wolves immediately cut into that lead until I employed a 3 guard lineup (Van Exel, Arenas and Watson) to combat the comeback. Watson ended up coming up bigtime as he made some clutch plays to stretch the lead out midway through the 4th and then the rest of the team kicked in and put it beyond doubt. Team's record is now 2-4.

BPMM Points: Watson 3pts, Arenas 2pts, Wallace 1pt

Nov 13, 2006 - Charlotte 87 vs Chicago 88 [SIMMED GAME]

As I watched the game unfold it looked good as the team led by 9 points after 3 quarters. I thought there was no chance I would lose this. Well I was wrong. That sick feeling from that Jazz game came back as the Bulls stole this one. A really tough loss as the team falls to 2-5.

BPMM Points: Arenas 3pts, Watson 2pts, Wallace 1pt

Nov 15, 2006 - Charlotte 117 vs Milwaukee 107 [HUMAN GAME]

'Meka and G.A. really stepped up in this one as the 'Cats held on to win this one comfortably. The team is now 3-5.

BPMM Points: Okafor 3pts, Arenas 2pts, Nene 1pt

Nov 18, 2006 - Charlotte 85 vs Boston 99 [INTERVENTION GAME]

Entering the 4th quarter down by 9 points, this game was not out of reach. Within a couple of minutes it was as Ricky Davis took over as the Celtics rolled. The team fell to 3-6

BPMM Points: Arenas 3pts, Okafor 2pts, Nene 1pt

Nov 21, 2006 - Charlotte 95 vs LA Clippers 81 [SIMMED GAME]

The offensive production of Arenas and Watson was enough to get the job done, but it was Okafor's complete shutdown of rookie Bogut that was the most impressive. I don't know why the Clippers have moved Bogut to PF, but it didn't appear to work. This was the team's 2nd straight win and the team is now 4-6.

BPMM Points: Okafor 3pts, Arenas 2pts, Watson 1pt

Nov 22, 2006 - Charlotte 108 @ Sacramento 105 [HUMAN GAME]

Arenas put up 16 points in the 3rd quarter to give the 'Cats a huge lead going into the 4th. But Peja and the Kings came back well, but in the end the team was able to hold on and move to only one game under .500 (5-6).

BPMM Points: Arenas 3pts, Okafor 2pts, Korver 1pt

Nov 24, 2006 - Charlotte 120 vs Seattle 110 [INTERVENTION GAME]

Just what I like to see, a 14 point intervention lead to hold on to. :D NLSC-er Xu had a good game off the bench, but in reality, this game was all about Gilbert Arenas as he led the team back to .500 (6-6).

BPMM Points: Arenas 3pts, Dumars 2pts, Van Exel 1pt

Nov 30, 2006 - Charlotte 125 @ Golden State 103 [SIMMED GAME]

Another simmed win :D as the team finishes the month with a winning record 7-6, which is terrific considering the 0-4 start to the season. Strong support from many players in this game.

BPMM Points: Okafor 3pts, Dumars 2pts, Wallace 1pt

PIC OF THE MONTH

Image
Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it's just Gerald Wallace worrying more about style than substance. Nice dunk though, I'll give him that.

Don't worry, I'm use to simmed losses that bad by now  but Clippers came out well, but I got them back in the rematch at home in November :P

dweaver wrote:Hehe, Go Luke!!! Start him in front of wallace , I tell you (Y)

I know Gerald Wallace has been a non-factor ever since I signed him, but Luke Walton has been that way too....perhaps they'll both get sent packing  either way, I'm on a 4 game winning streak so I'm not going to make any moves and ruin team chemistry at this moment, but we'll see how December pans out....

as for other updates, I have also updated the Bobby Phills Memorial Medallion Leaderboard and Team/Player Record Book (both on page 1 of the thread)....

there's one more update for November being the update relating to NLSC players, but I'll do that this weekend after ANZAC test (hope we don't lose too badly), dropping my dad off at airport and painting the town red....

Enjoy

John WB wrote:Your MVP Candidates are weird

Not really, it's only a month into the season and what tends to happen is the teams that have played the most games (New Jersey - 14 etc) tend to have the most MVP Candidates....that will smooth out in time....

Sit wrote:Jason Kidd for MVP... and love the dunk!

yeah, was a sweet dunk....Nets need to start winning more and team is still weak as they're relying on a rookie bigman Johan Petro (rated 55 overall) to carry the load in the middle....but we'll see....they'd be a lot stronger if they had Vinsanity like in real life but alas, they're stuck in mediocrity

also curious about what you guys think of me posting the boxscores....is it worth my time to post them or do most of you just not view them?!? just curious....always looking for ways to improve the dynasty but if it's not, then there's no point doing it....feedback would be appreciated

I like the new format better, although i do not click on all the boxscore links...

Although his stats don't indicate it, Hassakis was key in leading the Suns' failed comeback.

I'm a scrapper, I told you. Watch for me to get in a Palace-like brawl around December

I think your GM skills are going to be the reason Splitter will be touted teh next Darko... j/k

BTW, how's Darko doing in your dynasty? Getting any minutes? :?:

dweaver wrote:I like the new format better, although i do not click on all the boxscore links...

cool....there are too many for someone to check in one viewing, so I figure it's time for a change....I'll definitely keep showing all the boxscores however I am going to do them in 3 game batches as I play them to fill in the gaps between the monthly summaries....still short one and two-liners for game recaps but I think this will work better and people won't dread the prospect of opening 25 boxscores as I know I wouldn't  I'll still keep end-of-month recaps but will be quicker for me to do as I won't have to post links for all boxscores which will be good :D

dweaver wrote:I'm a scrapper, I told you. Watch for me to get in a Palace-like brawl around December

yeah, I noticed you were a bit of a scrapper....in that pic with Dumars you all got all arm on that block but no foul was called  also as it happened it looked like you gave him a forearm to the head  at least Watson got revenge for That Guy as I returned the favour when you tried to dunk, hack the living daylights out of you and no foul once again  was an intense game and just what I needed to get on the winning road....

dweaver wrote:I think your GM skills are going to be the reason Splitter will be touted teh next Darko... j/k

yeah, he's just not good enough at the moment to play big minutes....and I can't really validate putting him ahead of Nene, Haslem or Walton for minutes in the frontcourt....although I've found him as a useful situation-type player to help defend against the big 3's like Van Horn and Peja....I like to ease my rookies in as well and I'm not as bad as Larry Brown

dweaver wrote:BTW, how's Darko doing in your dynasty? Getting any minutes?

yeah, he actually finally is....he's in his last year of his contract, 4th year pro and he's backing up at PF....he's getting like about 5 & 5 off the bench so he's slowly getting there

yep, Wallace dunk was nasty....as for the jersey, as Andrew suggested, I went with the Bobcats' original orange away jersey as a retro as it is something that the real team and that I used....whilst the jersey you made is nice, I just don't think it's realistic as Bobcats team never wore that or existed all those years ago....thanks anyway, keep up the good work and if you make any new Bobcats jerseys, please let me know

Seraph wrote:keep the boxscores please...

as I said in my previous post, the boxscores are here to stay but my format will change....I'll post game boxscores in 3 game blocks (HUMAN, INTERVENTION, SIMMED) as I play them as this suits me more as it takes too long to do one huge post, would prefer to do it gradually....and I now feel like my November recap was a tad too similar to Micchy's Atlanta one which is good, but doesn't suit me....so boxscores will stay but not in monthly recap :)

Seraph wrote:Btw you should cut the pic a little before resize it (i dont know if the TOOL is Cut or Crop, cause i have the Spanish version)

I'll see what I can do....when you say cut/crop, you mean for example with that Wallace dunk, I would cut out the right 1/3 of it which is meaningless anyways?!?

pHLo wrote:wow, big and nice updates, since my last time in this thread !

will do....is a long weekend this weekend as is ANZAC day on Monday so will play a few games over next couple of days and get some boxscores and a pic or two up as well

For some reason, Dumars is my favorite player on the Bobcats  Because I liked Joe Dumars. He is playing really well on the team. Keep the dynasty going, you've been through a good draft period and your first month was real nice, finishing a game over .500

NLSC PLAYER UPDATE (OCT '06)

This is a monthly section that will highlight different NLSC Players each month. With many new NLSC players gracing the courts in the 2006/07 season it is only fitting that we should highlight one of the rookie NLSC players who has stepped in right away and helped his team.

PG- Leo Reyes (Seraph), 5'8", 170lbs (19th pick in the 2006 NBA Draft by Los Angeles Lakers)

Image
Rudy T is watching this kid like a hawk to make sure he keeps Kobe happy and gives him his 30-40 touches a night

Picked with the 19th pick by the Los Angeles Lakers, Leo Reyes presented an interesting dilemma for Rudy Tomjanovich. Rudy had to convince Reyes to buy into the Lakers' franchise and system. As evidence by his opening month where he leads all rookies in assists and is second in scoring amongst rookies, Reyes has stepped up to the plate. Reyes immediately took the vacant starting PG spot and is flourishing alongside Kobe in the backcourt as the team is currently 7-5 in the tough Western Conference. Reyes was one of the best playmakers in the draft and considered a pretty good shooter, however he has had his struggles early with his consistency, as he's shooting only 36% from the field and 32% from beyond the arc. Expect those numbers and Reyes' consistency to improve as he gets familiar with the increased pace of the NBA game. Look out for big things from LA's new pint-sized star.

Leo Reyes' 2006/07 Stats:
12.8ppg, 3.3rpg, 6.3apg, 1.17spg, 36.1% FG, 31.8% 3pt
13.90 NBA Efficiency Rating
11.23 Raw Birdie Score
11.23 Weighted Birdie Score

NLSC PLAYER'S 2006/07 STATS
