SUCCESS STORIES - Computers that run the game well

Postby Dee4Three on Sun Sep 18, 2016 4:16 am

Hi all,

Instead of having a thread called "Can I run the game?", or "Hardware Requirements", a success story thread would be more beneficial. A lot of people out there are wondering what they should get to be able to run the game at an acceptable level or performance, or if the current rig they have could handle it. This is a thread to help those who have these questions.

I have tested the game on 2 Rigs, here is how they run.

◦OS: Windows 10
◦CPU: AMD A10-5800K APU 3.8Ghz Processor
◦RAM: 8 GB RAM
◦GPU: Gigabyte AMD R7 360
◦TYPE: Desktop
◦Additional Notes: Using XBOX 360 Rock Candy controller via USB. The computer is being played on a 50 inch Samsung LED Television via HDMI.

Game runs at 60 FPS (even during cutscenes). All settings are on high with the exception of Texture detail quality (Medium) and Crowd detail (Medium). The graphics card can be bought on newegg.com for between $90-$110. So you don't have to break the bank on a card.

◦OS: Windows 7 64 bit
◦CPU: AMD FX 8150 8 Core 3.6Ghz Processor
◦RAM: 12 GB of RAM
◦GPU: Gigabyte AMD R9 280x
◦TYPE: Desktop
◦Additional Notes: Using XBOX 360 Rock Candy controller via USB. The computer is being played on a 50 inch VIZIO LED Television via HDMI.

Game runs at 60 FPS (even during cutscenes). The game is maxed out(AA is set at 8). With this processor, it can overheat.... but I combat that with raising my fan speed to 90% and it seems okay.

List your success stories to help others out!

That's great. Which GPU did you get? The info could help someone out.

NBA 2K17 was far better optimized than NBA 2k16 on opening day. I could run the game maxed out right away.

i7-6700K, 980 Ti, 16 GB RAM (DDR4), Windows 10. Game runs reasonably well at 3440x1440. Some dips into mid-40s here and there, but I expect nVidia game ready driver next week that will do the magic.

I hope to join the fun running it at Medium-High with high player settings with my new PC I'll build soon. I hope I can find a good prebuilt PC, a monitor, and a cheap 2gb card.

Well, game don't run smooth (like 2K16 at his launch).
My PC is pretty decent 4790k + 970 + 8Go RAM
After many tries, nvidia inspector monitor show me that ingame AA settings are killing my GPU in 1920x1080 (where 2k16 runs smoothly in 2560x1440)

if those who success can post their VideoSettings.cfg (and Nvidia inspector profile) ? thanx in advance :bowdown2:

Specs:
CPU: Intel Pentium G3258
GPU: GeForce GTX 750 Ti
RAM: 8GB.

I run the game on:
Anti-Aliasing level 1, Special effects off
Textures, Media people, Crowd, Shader level - Medium
Player Detail - high.
I get steady 60fps and its always around 60-80 with no problem. I know my PCs trash, just wanted to share with someone who has very little money and/or not a good pc.

Honestly, with the details on medium and players on high... I bet it still looks pretty solid. The AA at 1 probably just makes the corners a little rough. Great share for those with cheaper PC's.

Image

- 4770K is overcloked to 4.4GHz and is water cooled.
- EVGA 980 Ti Hybrid @ factory settings.

I was able to play 2K16 on 4K settings without much of a hitch.

Running 2K17 at 1080p with x4 anti-aliasing was unplayable for me. I'm kind of a graphics whore.

If I remember correctly, this was also the case for 2K16 when it first released.

A patch and/or driver update eventually released that boosted performance significantly.

Is Leftos still here? I'm having the crowd issues that heavily impact performance. For some reason, the crowd impacts my system no matter how low I drag down the other settings. I had the same issue last year in 2K16 but it was fixed and I was able to run it properly with high settings and a maxed out crowd.

Is AMD a good solution processor wise? Or Intel is still a better solution?

I'm asking becouse AMD is really cheaper than Intel....

I havn't had any issues. The AMD processors I've used are:

AMD FX 8150
AMD FX 8320
AMD FX 6300
AMD A10-5800k

On the AMD A10 5800k with a R7 360 and 8 GB of ram, I can run NBA 2K17 on all high with the exception of 2 settings on medium. I get 60 FPS. On the AMD FX 8150 with an R9 280x card with 8 GB of ram, I can run in at 60 FPS with everything on high and AA at 8. On the AMD FX 6300 with a NVidia GTX 960 with 8 GB of ram, I can run everything on Medium and get 60 FPS (Cutscenes actually run between 40-50 FPS.. feels like console). I havn't tried 2k17 on the AMD FX 8320 (Because I don't have the computer anymore).

Also NOTE: I do not overclock. I use stock speeds. Keep in mind, when I say "I get 60 FPS", it's because I have the comps hooked up to 50 inch tvs via HDMI. So the refresh rate on the tv can only go up to 60FPS. I would get more on a monitor. However, 60 FPS is smooth as butter for me, and it plays amazing with no input lag on my end. The reason I've installed it on 3 computers: I have two computers in the living room, and my brother has one that we installed it on and tested it out. I only bought one game, but I can log into my steam account on the other 2 computers and install and play the games on those.

The AMD FX 8150 8 core overheats if you don't have a solid cooling system. I get my computers built before hand and I've received great prices on the builds.

Hope this helps.

Also note that 125W CPUs are capable of cooking lower-end motherboards that lack sufficient VRMs.

And that modern Intel i3 CPUs are capable of better performance in many situations and games.

Sorry I didn't go into more detail. Just sharing my success with the units I have. I have not tried an Intel processor because I've never had anything but good luck with AMD.

Of course, just wanted to share my experience... Saw several 125W AMD CPUs (8320/8350 mainly) in low end motherboards just because they physically fit... And the systems were usually unstable and I saw some literally burnt boards as well.

They're capable of running many things well and they're not going to be general bottleneck with your GPUs. Pair them with 980 Ti and you'll see the limitations.

Their main issue right now is that they're not a good buy (at retail price) at the moment. They platform cost is too high, because even though the CPU is rather cheap, you'll spend more on motherboard (compared to solid motherboards for Intel) and cooling and it kinda evens out... resulting in Intel being the better choice.

As a side note, ever since I upgraded from FX-8320, the winters have been honestly a little bit colder in my room (this winter will be interesting, new place).

I ran the AC until I had adequate cooling, haha.

Honestly, I don't build... so I buy pre-built and I've had great luck. Getting the AMD FX 6300 with Nvidia GTX 960 for $400 was huge for me. We needed the second computer for the living room, and it doesn't overhear and runs well (Never goes over 60C, even with playing the Witcher 3. On the Witcher 3, I get 60 FPS with High settings (Foliage on Medium some on Ultra, it's a mixture so I call it high). But the game looks and works great. Couldn't beat that for $400. I havn't had any issues with bottlenecking on the rigs I mentioned.

I'm one of those people that likes to stick with something if it works. AMD just hasn't failed me yet, I havn't paid much attention to the motherboards (Maybe I'm not that savvy yet). On all three of the computers I have a Power Supply of 650W or higher, and that seems to be fine.

Yes. You can also check out some benchmarks, especially if you're going to use it for gaming, there are plenty of those.

For $400 it sounds like a very good deal (kinda surprised, because prebuilts are usually overpriced).
