Mark. wrote:Oh yeah, good win. You were close enough on points request. I will let rebounding slide. Thank you for delivering on the blocks
Nah in all seriousness, great game by Gordon. Like the presentation too, concise and to the point
Last night's season opener was a good one as we saw the Phoenix Suns crunch out one against the Minnesota Timberwolves at the US Airways Center. Goran Dragic, while ending the game with five turnovers, finished the game with 18 points on 7-10 shooting and also supplied a neat helping of 10 assists. Dragic was deft with his passing awareness dishing out five assists before the first half ended and stacking in three more during the third quarter. Dragic didn't see much play time late in the game, but you have to know he did contribute greatly towards the win last night.
And while we are still on the late game situation, let's analyze for a moment. Through out the entirety of the game, Minnesota was only able to pull out a lead twice, with only a one point margin. The T'Wolves had plenty of opportunities to take grasp on a lead, but whenever they tried to attack, a Suns defender was ready to pounce. You can tell Phoenix was simply ready for inside drives only allowing 13 points in the paint and having a total of 8 blocks for the night. When it came to a Suns lead, it was a different story. For a long time the margin was about five or seven. Occasionally the lead would see a breakout and you would see the scoreboard showing a ten point advantage. When those large leads occurred however, coach Mike Woodson would take out several scorers and replace them with an immense amount of defenders seeing the lead wither down once again.
The final quarter left us in despair as well, the lead Phoenix held was nine and all of Phoenix's rookies were seeing the floor. Only problem was, they couldn't hold on to the ball nor score to keep their lead that kept going down. Several shooters replaced the inexperienced unit and intentional fouls started to boom out. The game finally game down to Eric Gordon, we'll touch on him more in a moment. Gordon, who had gone a solid 3-3 already was going to hit the free throws that would give Phoenix a seven point advantage. The crowd was yelling MVP as he worked his way to bury both free throws and win the Suns the game.
Eric Gordon ended the game with player of the game honors. He finished with 29 points, 2 rebounds, 1 assist, and a surprising 2 blocks. He was just able to get his hands on the ball when it mattered at times. His defense was only sub-bar on Michael Beasely however in the second half as he got 11 of his 17 points in the second half alone. We can shrug off Gordon's defense for now since he was out-muscled by the much bigger Beasely. Gordon was also an assailant from three as well. In the first two quarters he drained four for four of his threes one his way to 14 first half points. He played little of the second quarter, since we did see get 11 of his points in the first quarter. Gordon's deadeye three shooting did end in the second half though, not hitting one after the change of baskets.
with one game down and 81 to go, hopefully we caught a glimpse of what we are expected to see from the Phoenix Suns.
With two weeks down in the NBA season*, mock drafts are beginning to pop up on different forums and sites. The NCAA basketball season hasn't even gotten a chance to begin yet, though many players, being judged from their last years performances have impressed the analyst scouting them and below are the five players who have appeared in the top five the most. Note these aren't in any particular order, there isn't telling how these players do this season and the order is simply guess work. Now, lets begin.
#3 Nerlens Noel
C
Kentucky
Noel, going into his freshman year with the Wildcats came in as a five star recruit whom everyone knew would be heading into the draft as soon as his freshman season goes into the books. Noel has a 7'6 wingspan and at 6'11 already, that makes him more dangerous. He's able to stretch out and knock away incoming shots that might come around him. Noel hasn't really spoken on his ambitions for his most likely first-and-only year in a Kentucky uniform. He's mostly more concerned about his NBA ambitions, he told reporters on signing day that he isn't even worried about the NCAA season. He just want to hear his name called out when the draft rolls around.
#23 Ben McLemore
SF
Kansas
Redshirted freshman Ben McLemore announced that he wouldn't be interested in returning after his first official season as a JayHawk. McLemore was a phenom in high school, but didn't see any playtime because his coach, Bill Self, decided to round him out resulting in a redshirt. McLemore is expected to play great since the entirety of the NCAA doesn't seem to have athletes on his level yet. Ben has stayed mostly quiet in most of his time at Kansas so it is hard to get a gauge of his character.
#30 Seth Curry
PG
Duke
Brother of current NBA player Steph Curry, Seth Curry is another player who is ranked highly around the nation. Curry is in his final year as a Blue Devil after staying impressive in his stay all the while. Curry is a sharpshooter who wants to hit the center of the basket from every area on a basketball court. Curry has been an emotional player similar to Ray Lewis in the way that he just gets his teammates ready and willing into a game. Seth Curry is a great player to build around since he shows leadership capabilities.
#15 Shabazz Muhammad
SG
UCLA
Though he almost got banned from the NCAA entirely, Shabazz Muhammad is ready to suit up for the Bruins once the NBA season begins. Coming out of high school, people had already listed him as number one overall. That would make sense if this was a weak draft and most of Muhammad's game revolves around scoring. He did pop the top of stadiums in high school that is why teams went so heavily after him over the summer. He told reporters on signing day that he was going to the draft but his teams success comes first. "Yeah getting drafted is pretty important to me and marks success for me early, but my main concern for now is putting a banner in the rafters for UCLA."
#12 Ryan Harrow
PG
Kentucky
This is a player that barely made it to this list. He wasn't one to be seen here that often but is still seen as many to be taken top five. Harrow is the teammate to freshman and another top-five hopeful, Nerlens Noel. Harrow is recognized as a point guard of the future for just about any team, putting assists numbers in bunches, so it is very reasonable for teams to show so much interest in the second year student.
I can't tell you what these five players will show come draft night, but I wish them the best of luck in their rough and tough season that is home to the NCAA.
*Skipped ahead, preparing to play the Bulls. Look at first page for scores.

What do you mean exactly? Derrick Perkins doesn't actually exist, as a NBA player anyway. He is Povilas NLSC draftee. Most of the information is fictional. Povilas even posted a few articles throughout this dynasty topic. Other than that he went to go "play" Euroleague ball for Real Madrid before qualifying for the draft, "won" a championship, drafted number one overall by the Kings, currently averaging 4 PPG in 8MPG becuase he is injured with a sore wrist. I am also playing NBA 2K12.
