Points: Almost Check

Blocks: Check

Rebounds: Failure only grabbed about four, not sure what was going on, the only player going for was Derrick Williams and Jermaine O'Neal. Barely any shots were missed. I think both teams had around 35 rebounds or so.

Oh yeah, good win. You were close enough on points request. I will let rebounding slide. Thank you for delivering on the blocks :P

Nah in all seriousness, great game by Gordon. Like the presentation too, concise and to the point (Y)

I will make a write up about the stats of the game sometime this week and then take a look at some of the draft prospects. I'm in school right now though

Last night's season opener was a good one as we saw the Phoenix Suns crunch out one against the Minnesota Timberwolves at the US Airways Center. Goran Dragic, while ending the game with five turnovers, finished the game with 18 points on 7-10 shooting and also supplied a neat helping of 10 assists. Dragic was deft with his passing awareness dishing out five assists before the first half ended and stacking in three more during the third quarter. Dragic didn't see much play time late in the game, but you have to know he did contribute greatly towards the win last night.

And while we are still on the late game situation, let's analyze for a moment. Through out the entirety of the game, Minnesota was only able to pull out a lead twice, with only a one point margin. The T'Wolves had plenty of opportunities to take grasp on a lead, but whenever they tried to attack, a Suns defender was ready to pounce. You can tell Phoenix was simply ready for inside drives only allowing 13 points in the paint and having a total of 8 blocks for the night. When it came to a Suns lead, it was a different story. For a long time the margin was about five or seven. Occasionally the lead would see a breakout and you would see the scoreboard showing a ten point advantage. When those large leads occurred however, coach Mike Woodson would take out several scorers and replace them with an immense amount of defenders seeing the lead wither down once again.

The final quarter left us in despair as well, the lead Phoenix held was nine and all of Phoenix's rookies were seeing the floor. Only problem was, they couldn't hold on to the ball nor score to keep their lead that kept going down. Several shooters replaced the inexperienced unit and intentional fouls started to boom out. The game finally game down to Eric Gordon, we'll touch on him more in a moment. Gordon, who had gone a solid 3-3 already was going to hit the free throws that would give Phoenix a seven point advantage. The crowd was yelling MVP as he worked his way to bury both free throws and win the Suns the game.

Eric Gordon ended the game with player of the game honors. He finished with 29 points, 2 rebounds, 1 assist, and a surprising 2 blocks. He was just able to get his hands on the ball when it mattered at times. His defense was only sub-bar on Michael Beasely however in the second half as he got 11 of his 17 points in the second half alone. We can shrug off Gordon's defense for now since he was out-muscled by the much bigger Beasely. Gordon was also an assailant from three as well. In the first two quarters he drained four for four of his threes one his way to 14 first half points. He played little of the second quarter, since we did see get 11 of his points in the first quarter. Gordon's deadeye three shooting did end in the second half though, not hitting one after the change of baskets.

with one game down and 81 to go, hopefully we caught a glimpse of what we are expected to see from the Phoenix Suns.

Problems with the Roster?

Postby SuperHueyNewton on Wed Mar 13, 2013 8:42 am

~ Tonight we're going to LA to play against the Lakers*, that game isn't what is on my head though that isn't the thing on my mind right now. What is on my mind is that upcoming draft. Quick right? Though it is months away from now, I've already sent my scouts, Brian Olsen, and Patrick freeman to check out Fab Melo and Nerlens Noel. Both are defensive powerhouses who are expected to go on opposite ends of the first round, but I want to get a feel in for both players. The high school phenomenon Andrew Wiggins is pretty impressive too, though I don't expect to see what college he attends until next year.

~ I was still looking at further prospects when there was a knock at my hotel door.I open the door, not paying attention to who it is when I finally hear them speak.

???: Hey man, I wanted to talk about some of the roster.

~ I turned around to see that it was Mike Woodson who appeared on this night.

Huey Newton: What about the roster, don't we have it built in a way you would like it.?

Woodson: For the most part... yes. But there is a player who bothers me.

Newton: Discipline issues?

Woodson: It isn't that at all, he actually has tons of respect. I don't like how much weight he has coming into this season.

Newton: Who are you talking about? Moultrie, I understand he came in rather overweight this season, but what are you getting at?

Woodson: I want him gone.

Newton: Gone, whoa now look. I don't want to see this young guy leave, there is simply no telling how useful he'll be in the future. Tell you what, I'll send him to the D-league. Let him develop, and at the same time work with trainers to lose some of that weight he garners.

Woodson: Yeah, that was one of my options for him. I'll put Darrell into the rotation for tonight. Thanks for hearing me out Huey.

Newton: No problem.

------------------------------------------------------

~ Boy, when I told Arnett he'd be sent down way before the season even got to second gear, he was extremely disappointed. The D-League season didn't start from some weeks either. I tried to bring him up telling him that he could still work out in that time and get himself ready for the fresh NBA D-league season. It seemed to reassure him some. After that though I really didn't tell the kid, I personally gave him our D-league affiliate jersey and led him on his way.

I'm simming part of the month anyway.

Tough work of the GM, but something has to be done if the player can't keep themselves in game shape.

Good analysis of how the players played too (Y)

Checkin Out top Prospects

With two weeks down in the NBA season*, mock drafts are beginning to pop up on different forums and sites. The NCAA basketball season hasn't even gotten a chance to begin yet, though many players, being judged from their last years performances have impressed the analyst scouting them and below are the five players who have appeared in the top five the most. Note these aren't in any particular order, there isn't telling how these players do this season and the order is simply guess work. Now, lets begin.

Image
#3 Nerlens Noel
C
Kentucky

Noel, going into his freshman year with the Wildcats came in as a five star recruit whom everyone knew would be heading into the draft as soon as his freshman season goes into the books. Noel has a 7'6 wingspan and at 6'11 already, that makes him more dangerous. He's able to stretch out and knock away incoming shots that might come around him. Noel hasn't really spoken on his ambitions for his most likely first-and-only year in a Kentucky uniform. He's mostly more concerned about his NBA ambitions, he told reporters on signing day that he isn't even worried about the NCAA season. He just want to hear his name called out when the draft rolls around.

Image
#23 Ben McLemore
SF
Kansas

Redshirted freshman Ben McLemore announced that he wouldn't be interested in returning after his first official season as a JayHawk. McLemore was a phenom in high school, but didn't see any playtime because his coach, Bill Self, decided to round him out resulting in a redshirt. McLemore is expected to play great since the entirety of the NCAA doesn't seem to have athletes on his level yet. Ben has stayed mostly quiet in most of his time at Kansas so it is hard to get a gauge of his character.

Image
#30 Seth Curry
PG
Duke

Brother of current NBA player Steph Curry, Seth Curry is another player who is ranked highly around the nation. Curry is in his final year as a Blue Devil after staying impressive in his stay all the while. Curry is a sharpshooter who wants to hit the center of the basket from every area on a basketball court. Curry has been an emotional player similar to Ray Lewis in the way that he just gets his teammates ready and willing into a game. Seth Curry is a great player to build around since he shows leadership capabilities.

Image
#15 Shabazz Muhammad
SG
UCLA

Though he almost got banned from the NCAA entirely, Shabazz Muhammad is ready to suit up for the Bruins once the NBA season begins. Coming out of high school, people had already listed him as number one overall. That would make sense if this was a weak draft and most of Muhammad's game revolves around scoring. He did pop the top of stadiums in high school that is why teams went so heavily after him over the summer. He told reporters on signing day that he was going to the draft but his teams success comes first. "Yeah getting drafted is pretty important to me and marks success for me early, but my main concern for now is putting a banner in the rafters for UCLA."

Image
#12 Ryan Harrow
PG
Kentucky

This is a player that barely made it to this list. He wasn't one to be seen here that often but is still seen as many to be taken top five. Harrow is the teammate to freshman and another top-five hopeful, Nerlens Noel. Harrow is recognized as a point guard of the future for just about any team, putting assists numbers in bunches, so it is very reasonable for teams to show so much interest in the second year student.

I can't tell you what these five players will show come draft night, but I wish them the best of luck in their rough and tough season that is home to the NCAA.

Thanks, and yeah, my team is pretty young and athletic. I think the average age for the team is around 25-27 with as many young players I have.

Yup yup. I was looking for Thaddeus Young in the second half to rival Gordon's scoring. Young has a pretty good advantage playing Small Forward because he has a post game in 2K12 and most players aren't able to guard him down there.

Oh and I forgot to mention this in my reply, I think I'll put the difficulty up for my next game. (Whenever that will be, this has to go on a short hiatus) I play on All-Star, but it is really coming easy from these last two victories, I say this because it shouldn't be that easy to beat the Bulls and it should be harder anyay.

What do you mean exactly? Derrick Perkins doesn't actually exist, as a NBA player anyway. He is Povilas NLSC draftee. Most of the information is fictional. Povilas even posted a few articles throughout this dynasty topic. Other than that he went to go "play" Euroleague ball for Real Madrid before qualifying for the draft, "won" a championship, drafted number one overall by the Kings, currently averaging 4 PPG in 8MPG becuase he is injured with a sore wrist. I am also playing NBA 2K12.

Nice game from Davis. Yeah superstar perhaps. Or you could tweak the sliders? I try to get the most out of the sliders first as I find when you bump the difficulty it changes the AI logic, not always for the best.

Thanks, the game had Eric Gordon as the player of the game, but all he did is score, Davis did a lot more. Would have had a write up if there hadn't been a blowout. Perhaps your right about the slider, but until its proven, for now I'll just bump the difficulty up.

Checking up on Moultrie

Postby SuperHueyNewton on Tue Mar 19, 2013 8:42 am

~ We have been tearing it up in the last few weeks! Right now we're on a four game winning streak and going into our next game, which is against the Oklahoma City Thunder, we hope to instill our re-emergence into the NBA's best franchise. EG has been great for us tallying in about 22 points a game, we're playing well as a team right now, seeing as we have a three day break. I scheduled an metting with Arnett who has been tearing up the backboard in his three games with the Jam. He's averaging about 10 boards a game in just 20 minutes. He's also slimmed down a bit and turned some of his fat into muscle.

~ While I waited for Arnett to come in, I was watching SportCenter. On the sports ticker it said the Evan Turner would return for their bout with the Knicks coming off a sore foot. That barely concerned me though. E.T. is still the great when paired with Wilson Chandler, so I expect those guys to do well. Can't wait for the game against them. The other thing that caught my attention though was that KG is retiring and the ESPN crew were talking about what the Celtics would do heading into the next off-season. I mean it's still early in the season, but given if the Celtics succeed or not, they'll probably take a big man. If they do good this year, Kelly Olynyk or Royce White. If they do bad, Fab Melo or Alex Len.

~ As the segment winded down, Arnett finally entered my office followed by Mike Woodson. Arnett looked uncomfortable around Woodson, even though he stood about nine inches taller. I gestured for both of them to sit down and started my explanation.

Huey Newton: This is more of a progress check, and both of you have been doing well this year. I wanted to speak to you at the same time to discuss some things about the future of the Suns. Mike right now Arnett has been playing well in the D-League, and has even slimmed down.

Mike Woodson: Yes, I see that.

Huey Newton: Well would you consider, at this point to bring him back onto the roster?

Woodson: Right now... no.

Arnett Moultrie: Why not? I did what what was required of me.

Woodson: Because I still want you to round out a little bit more on the weaker players of the D-League, not get overmatched by the good players out here.

Moultire: I see that as far from a valid notion.

Woodson: Look, you're good when it comes to board work, that's it. Your offense will never help us hitting only thirty percent of your shots and barely translating most of your work on the boards. It is a flat out waste. Besides the roster is packed with too many loads of big men to play you anyway.

~ Newton interjected here, this sounded as if Woodson was looking for a trade to fill up space, but Newton didn't really see a trade as plausible at this point. The only player to not see the floor yet this year is Michael Redd.

Newton: So what are you saying now Woody?

Woodson: I'm saying get rid of someone or some multiple people. Markieff for example, he's just taking playing time for players that are better than him, Darrell and him are on similar levels, but Darrell is more consistent and actually reliable on defense.

Newton: So not even a month into the season, we're doing well, and yet you move for a trade. Why? How come you're not impressed with out big men?

Woodson: It isn't that I'm not impressed, it is just that I can't see to find playtime for certain players like Michael Redd who really deserves to be played.

~ Moultrie was starting to rise up, he headed for the door.

Newton: And just where are you going?

Moultrie: Back to Bakersfield, at least the coach there appreciates his players.

~ Moultrire didn't wait for any reason against his action, he just walked out.
