New Fan Trailer: 360 Flashback - News Coming Soon

Postby Andrew on Sat Jul 07, 2012 2:12 am

More news on NBA Live 13 should be right around the corner and we're looking forward to bringing everyone some exclusives in the way of Q&As and the like this year. In the meantime, I've put together another fan trailer, this time highlighting the 360 versions of NBA Live 06 through NBA Live 10. A big thanks to JaoSming for capturing the footage. (Y)

Song is "Another Victory" by Mobb Deep, from the NBA Live 2004 soundtrack.

Or watch it here on YouTube.

As I said on YT, great job and real nice work starting the song when you did....I actually thought that song was in 2006 for some reason, lol.
Opinions are my own.

Cheers man, and thanks again for the footage. (Y) I actually almost changed my mind on the song to the one that was playing on that first NBA Live 06 clip, but I might save that one for another mix or the next screenshot montage.

Nice job andrew, funny how 09 looks the most for lack of better words "cartoony", than live 07 or 08.

This video makes me wonder... and no guarantees of implementation on this but if you guys could bring back any animations from any live from 06 on, what would they be?

Bring back signature animations & player differention. Gameplay needs to be organic, realistc & fluid. There also needs to be a physics system & no canned animations. Authentic cheerleaders, arena sounds, photorealistic crowds, & mascots need to be in the game also. Connection of fatigue should also factor player performance. Fix the fast break AI so that your teammates run towards the basket on the break, instead of always fading to the wings or stopping dead at the three point line.
Clean up some lingering issues with players stepping out of bounds or back across half court without anything being called. A boundary force field slider would be a good idea .
Keep Freestyle Passing; expand passing controls to allow the user to force lob and bounce passes, etc.
Bring back the T-Meter to shoot free throws. Accentuate the physical differences between players, movement speed, lateral movement, mass, momentum. Do mo-cap animations for dribble styles, signature size-ups, post moves, jumpshots, fadeaways, and let real physics handle the rest. •Fix the alley-oop logic; alley-oops should never be thrown to players standing at the three point line. If no one is in a position to be thrown an alley-oop, pressing the button should simply result in no action.Remove or balance out the tendency for the ball to get stripped on drives or when posting up. In NBA Live 10, the user was stripped far too easily compared to the CPU. Good idea, but implemented in a frustrating. Having a specific slider for this - both user and CPU - could also help greatly here so that we could adjust the balance ourselves.Remove blind interceptions. The CPU in particular still makes interceptions too easily, being too quick to the ball and making "eyes in the back of their head" steals. This should be greatly toned down and player awareness abilities should play a greater role in being able to play the passing lanes.

Definitely signature player animations and moves like Go To Moves, jumpshot styles, dribbling styles, celebrations, pre-game rituals and the like - some of the stuff we saw in NBA Live 10 would be awesome. NBA Live 08 also had a very slick fake spin that I really liked from the moment I saw it at the community event in 2007.

I would take as many dunk and alleyoop animations as possible, so we don't see the same animations multiple times in a game.

Go To Moves would be cool to see comeback, at least in a sense of more signature style

This Backwards Crossover from Live 08 blew my mind when I first did it - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jw_KfIG2Lw0#t=2m50s - you could chain them into a backcourt violation if you wanted, lol.
Also from Live 08 the walk-up animations were really good, so it would be nice to see again if we aren't Turbo-ing up the court - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jw_KfIG2Lw0#t=50s

Since I think the same animation files were used in Live 06 (360) as the old PS2 versions of the game (assuming since I noticed the same animations being used) I would really really like to see the bounce dunk and self alleyoop dunks comeback (as a rare fast break dunk)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=pl ... f_m4#t=81s
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sBoKTNpt ... age#t=159s
Nothing wrong with having a sim basketball game still having wow moments as a rarity

A thru the legs dunk, there was one in Live 07. Hell, if the off-the-backboard stuff is coming back from Elite 11, maybe even the honey dip from that game. Again, rarities, but rewarding to pull off when the situation is right.

Also, the eurostep, around the back, and other layup variations from Live 07 & Live 10 would be great to have return

As would the tip-to-self rebounds in Live 10, again, variety is key

Do NOT bring back that Live 07 speed dribble animation please :D

Live 09 had good quickstrike animations for dribbling, as did 08. Maybe add variation for dribble moves as well? Same dribble stick movements but different animations playing out?

If you have this animation mo-capped for this trailer, I would love to see it in game - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iu7Q8PgWQkw#t=10s

The celebration/ambient animations after a basket in NBA and NCAA 10 were pretty good, so those would be nice to see return.

And speaking of the NCAA series, it was possible for a point guard to be laid out by a big-man screen in the backcourt if they were turboing right into him. That would be nice to see again, but in the NBA game.

IIRC, the NCAA game had different dunk animations than the Live series, so maybe take a look and add from their database as well. I know I keep stressing it, but seeing the same basic dunk over and over again is what kills a game's replayability for me.

But yea, I would say use as much of the database as possible, just for animation variety. Layups, shots, dribbles, rebounds, Dunks, all of it.
Opinions are my own.

I did the bounce dunk once in 06 in a fastbreak as Jao mention. That was pretty cool (Y)

It's probably the only thing I'd take from NBA Live 08, most if not all of the animations are pretty dated at this point and not the kind of stuff I'd like to see in NBA Live 13. However, I'd love to see that move in the game somehow (it was executed by holding up on the right stick) and that is probably one of the better animations in 08.
