Do Superstars Play Like Superstars in 2K12?

Maybe. They may also have ears.

I was just about to write that early CPU vs CPU play, current Bulls with Jordan added, showed that superstars weren't scoring a lot. But then game three began and the announcers mentioned that Rose was averaging 20PPG in the series vs NJ (first two games.) Jordan, who had been injured in game one and played limited minutes in game two, received a pass during the Bulls first possession. He jab stepped, then drove past his defender for a dunk. On the Bulls second possession Jordan did the same thing a second time. On the Bulls third possession Rose drove around a screen then hit Jordan for a three. Jordan had 7 points in less than two minutes.

Jordan missed another three, missed a mid range jumper, then hit a two off a screen and pass from Rose. When Jordan subbed out with about 4 minutes remaining in the 1st Q, the line looked like this.

Jordan 4-6 shooting, 1-2 from three, 9 points
Rose 3 pts (on a three), 1-1 shooting , 1-1 from three, 3 assists.

Rose and Jordan sure did play like superstars for the first 8 minutes of that quarter as the Bulls built an early 14-7 lead.

You're basing your assumption about superstar play on only 8 minutes of play? Geez.
LeBron does nothing for 12 minutes in real life games.

No, I've had the CPU playing the CPU steadily since Thursday. Superstars play like superstars in spurts, and as I mentioned Rose averaged 20PPG in the first two CPU vs CPU games of the series.

Except for that one short spurt by Jordan and Rose, neither did much during a four game round 1 sweep over NJ.

One note is that the commentary keeps talking about Rose's 20PPG average. That isn't his scoring average in the playoffs. It's his scoring average from the regular season. Player intros and commentary mention players regular season averages, not their playoff averages.

Jordan only averaged 9 minutes per game because of his injury in game 1.

These are the playoff numbers.

In 31 MPG Rose averages 8 PPG, 2 APG.

Jordan has 4 PPG in limited time.

Boozer has 10 PPG and 6 RPG.

Deng has 8 PPG.

The Bulls averaged 91.5 PPG in the first round. As seen, the big scorers accounted for only 30 of those points. The remainder of the 60 PPG were distributed evenly amongst Noah, Korver, Pargo, Brewer, Butler, Thomas, Watson and Gibson. Jordan has limited minutes so it's hard to tell what would happen if he were playing full games. But Rose is hardly scoring, Boozer is hardly scoring, and Deng is hardly scoring.

I'm going to play CPU v CPU for all the Bulls games in the playoffs to see what happens with Superstar, Sim.

The one thing I like is that scores are not crazy high, as they were in similar CPU vs CPU games in 2K11. So from that standpoint, and seen in games I've actually played, scoring isn't crazy and good D can result in holding the opponent under 100 and even under 90.

Oddly the shooting % for both NJ and Chicago were over 50% for round 1, but the average scores were 91.5 PPG for the Bulls and just under 82 PPG for the Nets.

In the first game of round two loss (98-74) vs Orlando:

Rose 4 Pts, 2 AST, 39 minutes
Boozer 12 pts, 8 rebounds
Deng 13 points
Jordan 8 points in only 8 minutes

The high scorer for Orlando was Terkulu with 18 pts.

It is rare to see anyone in these CPU vs CPU games with more than 20 pts.

Completed 3 games Bulls vs Miami with me locked on Rose.

I can call plays for Jordan and get him to score a lot - 54 was the high.

Miami beat me all three games, but their big three didn't look good in any of the games.

LeBron scored 12, 9 and 13 with 3, 4, and 2 Assists and 0, 1, 4 Rebounds.
Wade scored 14, 12, 4
Bosh scored 2, 6, 6

Their big scorer was Miller in all three games - 18, 19, 22

All of these games have been on superstar, sim.

The plays for both me and the CPU seem stagnant. At lest half the time it comes down to whoever has the ball as the shot clock expires, often a big man, shooting a wild three. Guys simply aren't getting open except on the kick out passes to the three point line, which is why Miller keeps leading them in scoring. On the Heat Lebron, Wade and Bosh hardly take any shots.

I have yet to see a game, CPU vs CPU or me vs CPU, in which a player on the CPU controlled team scored 25 or more points. So far I've played or had CPU v CPU play Bulls vs Lakers, Heat, Mavericks, Nets, Magic, Magic Johson's Lakers, the classic Bulls vs Charlotte, the 60's Celtics vs old time Lakers, and Celtics. Also have had CPU vs CPU Heat vs Lakers, Heat vs Mavs, Heat vs Nets, Heat vs Orlando.

Any team reaching 100 points is rare in the CPU v CPU matches. Most of the possessions come down to the end of the shot clock.

I'm now having a CPU vs CPU Lakers vs Charlotte which is 27th in D.

1st Quarter, CPU Lakers vs Bobcats, Superstar SIM 22-18

Bobcats 7/16 (43%)
Lakers 8/17 (47%)

Kobe 4-7 shooting, 2-3 threes, 10 points, 2 rebounds

Charlotte

Augustine 10 points on 4-6 shooting, 2-3 threes

Half Time

Lakers 42 - Bobcats 37

Bobcats 13/31 41% 6/8 Free throws
Lakers 17/34 50% 5/6 free throws

Kobe was limited to only 3 minutes in the 2nd quarter, but added 7 points for 17 points, 7-10 shooting, 2-3 threes, 2 rebounds, 1-1 from the FT line.

Augustine 20 points, 1 Reb, 2 AST 7-10 FG, 4-6 3hree, FT 2-2

It's clear the FTs are low across the board. Bumping up fouls will also bump up scoring. But I'll let this game play out before bumping up the foul sliders.

Final Bobcats 71 - Lakers 77

Bobcats 29/64 45%
Lakers 30/71 42%

Lakers were down 4 with 20 seconds remaining. Fisher dribbled until the clock reached 5 seconds, then shot. That's poor late game logic.

Both shots and FTs were low for both teams. Lakers only shot 15 FTs, which is 9 below their 2010-2011 average.

Kobe finished with 30 points despite playing only 30 minutes. He fouled out late in the 4th quarter. 12-21 shooting, 2-7 3pt, 3-3 ft
Gasol scored 12 points in the second half to finish with 14.

Augustin scored 32 points on 10-18 (6-9 from three) shooting. He was 6-6 from the FT line.
Magette finished with 22 points.

Going to let another game play while I sleep.

The final score is definitely way below the Lakers average, so a drop in FTA is hardly unexpected or surprising.

The point is the drop in FTA is part of the reason scores are low. Charlotte gave up 97.3 PPG last season.

Game 2: Lakers 92 - Bobcats 87

Lakers 37/70 (52%)
Bobcats 35/70 (50%)

Kobe 42 points, 15-27(0-1), 12-15 FT
Gasol 8 points, 12 Reb

Augustin 28 points, 12-17 (1-3) 3-4 FT

Shot attempts within range of reality, but below average for both teams. FTs for each team were a bit low, but Kobe shot a lot of FTs.

77, add the supposed missing FTs, 86. Still waaay below what Charlotte gave up or the Lakers ppg for that matter.
You can't be really dead set and expect the stats to be really precise with the team's real season average. That's just insanity. :?

The goal isn't really being precise. It's just finding the sliders that bump the game play and thus stats towards a real NBA feel.

The main issue is tempo. All teams play deep into the shot clock almost every possession. Human vs CPU scores are a bit better because I play a little faster tempo, and sometimes don't lock down on D as I should.

I will play out a few more games while I work, then try bumping up the tempos for the coaches.

Teams generally shoot around 70-100 shots per game, with the average right around 85. The average in these CPU vs CPU games is around 70 shots per game for all teams. That's low.

Next game:

Lakers 101 (39/69 56%) - Bobbycats 90 (38/76) 50%

Magette 25 points 10-19 (1-1)

Kobe 50 points 20-32 2-6

Some real superstar type scoring in these games.
