Blazers Acquire Carl Landry In Three Player Trade
Posted March 27, 2012, 10:12 PST

Team sources have confirmed reports that the Blazers and Knicks have agreed on a three player deal. The Blazers have traded defensive center Marcus Camby, as well as their lottery protected 2012 first round draft pick to the New York Knicks for efficient power forward Carl Landry, and reserve big man Ronnie Turiaf.
Averaging just under 5 points and 7 rebounds per game and splitting minutes with Greg Oden, Camby was displeased with the way the season was going. [i]"If we're not gonna win any games, then I'm not gonna do the whole 'sacrifice my minutes and image' thing. Camby is 38 years old, but his $12 million a year contract comes off the books at the end of the season. He won the defensive player of the year award in the 2006-07 season, and is just two seasons removed from being second in rebounds.![]()
Carl Landry was signed as a free agent for the Knicks, and has played well for them, putting up 16 points and 6 rebounds while leading the league in both field goal and true shooting percentage. However, with Amar'e Stoudemire's presence on the roster, some speculate that Landry was signed as trade bait. Turiaf on the other hand, was a throw-in to match salaries, but will likely end up starting in a week or two once Oden's knees give out again.
Portland also gives up a first round draft pick in this. It is lottery protected this season, top 10 the next and unprotected after that. At 7-6, the Blazers are projected to select 16th at this point. Due to the short length of the season, the requirement to pass a physical before playing has been temporarily waived, and so Landry and Turiaf should debut against Minnesota tomorrow.

The salaries match. For your center and your team's incentive to tank, we are offering an excellent backup for Aldridge and a defensive center in Turiaf.

March 25, 2012: Blazers [5-6] @ 76ers [4-11] (Simmed)
Portland 102, Philadelphia 94
Don't let the score fool you, the Sixers were run out of their own building. The Blazers led the entire game and took an 18 point lead at the half. Despite a late run led by Thad Young in garbage time and a near triple double from Iguodala, Portland cruised to victory, getting back to .500.22 34 27 19 102 | PTS: Felton (19); REBS: Aldridge (11); ASTS: Felton (6); Roy (+19); Batum (-10)

Portland 99, Washington 93
In a surprisingly close outing, the lottery bound Wizards managed to stay in the game and even lead for much of it thanks to a huge night from Jordan Crawford. Crawford had 26 points on 11 shot attempts, giving the Wizards a hugh boost. It took huge games from Raymond Felton and LaMarcus Aldridge to eke out the win. Nicolas Batum hurt his ankle in the third quarter, and is expected to miss 1-2 games with it.15 29 23 32 99 | PTS: Aldridge (25); REBS: Aldridge (13); ASTS: Felton (8); Camby (+10); E. Williams (-5)

33 points from Brandon Roy was not enough
It was happening again. A game with major implications, check. Down 21 in the third quarter, check. Brandon Roy going OFF, check.
The Wolves dominated this game from the start, jumping out to an 8-0 start before we adjusted to enter the 2nd down just 4. The second quarter showed us why we missed Nicolas Batum (out with a sore ankle): Michael Beasley got the hot hand, and scored 12 of his 28 points in the quarter. We were disasterous offensively courtesy of LaMarcus Aldridge being ice cold. All of the sudden we enter the half down 16 points to the Timberwolves!
It looked like Minnesota would run away with it, continuing to play well and building the lead as high as 21. I nearly turned the game off, but I kept with it, and Roy came out for the first time in the second half. He proceeded to score on the next four possessions. Roy's offense sparked a run that had us within ten going into the fourth. That momentum continued, with Roy looking just like his old self, hitting shot after shot. It got to within two, 75-73, and we had our chance to finally tie the game after trailing its entirety. LaMarcus got the ball in the post, backs down, Derrick Williams steals it!
Before we knew it, we were down 14 and Roy was on the bench following consecutive bricked threes. After a dismal stretch, Roy was brought back in with new addition Carl Landry. Landry, who had been averaging 16 points per game, had a quiet debut with 6 points and 7 boards on 3-5 shooting (Ronnie Turiaf had a rebound and a block in 13 minutes) but had all of his points in the fourth. Roy sank another three to reach his total, a season high 33 points, but it was too little, too late. Though chalupas were prevented, the Wolves still got the win, 99-90.
"This is the biggest game we've played this season, period", said Wolves coach Rick Adelman after the game. The Wolves improved to 6-7 and came within a half game of Portland and a three way tie for the eighth seed. Post interview, Nate lauded Roy's efforts, and cited fatigue for Aldridge's struggles. "And also, not to make excuses, but Nic was hurt, and we had two new guys, so you know, just got to you know, one game at a time."![]()

Portland 99, Washington 93
In need of a win, the Blazers went to Sacramento, where they were used to easy wins. Even having acquired George Hill and Elton Brand for pocket lint earlier in the season, the Kings still should have lost, right? The game was close throughout. Roy's main competition for the sixth man of the year award, Marcus Thornton showed why he was the favorite for the award, dropping 31. Roy meanwhile had a quiet 10 point, 5 rebound, 3 assist outing. The Kings outlasted us to win it, 108-102. Oden had 10 points and 8 boards on 4-8 shooting in his first start.22 26 30 24 102 | PTS: Aldridge (23); REBS: Wallace (12); ASTS: Felton (6); Roy (+2); Aldridge (-17)

March 30, 2012: Spurs [14-3] @ Blazers [7-8] (Played)
Portland 117, San Antonio 106
A game below .500 and facing the first place 14-3 Spurs, things looked grim for the Blazers. The one consolation was that they were finally back at home, where LaMarcus Aldridge has averaged over 30 points per game (as opposed to just under 20 on the road) this season.
From the start, both teams were on fire. LaMarcus Aldridge got in early foul trouble, but was kept in due to him scoring 11 of Portland's first 15 points. After a back-and-forth first quarter, Portland got out on a tear and led by as many as fourteen points. Gary Neal came off the bench and proceeded to chip away at the lead. Some inspired play by the Spurs saw Portland enter the half up just 4, 60-56. Aldridge was the leading scorer with 22 at the half. Neal had 14.![]()
Portland's big men carried them tonight.
The third quarter saw the starters return, and the Portland offense start firing on all cylinders. Aldridge continued to embarrass the aging Duncan (who has had an otherwise resurgent season, averaging 19 and 9). Greg Oden also came out very strong, and ended up having his finest game of the season. A true ensemble effort saw the Blazers make a big run, dropping 36 in the third quarter to enter the fourth leading comfortably.
The lead got up to 23 points, and with seven minutes left, Nate McMillan opted to empty his bench. The Spurs did not, and proceeded to chip away at the lead. McMillan put starters Wes Matthews and Gerald Wallace in when the deficit got to 15, but the half measure was punished as the Spurs found themselves within single digits with under three minutes to play. Portland unleashed Aldridge, Felton and Landry. Roy and Aldridge had a pair of huge and-one plays that secured the victory, 117-106.
"I made a mistake. It was an awful coaching error, and it's going to make me sleep." -Not Gregg Popovich, but Nate McMillan, lamenting his decision to prematurely play a lineup of Patrick Mills, Nolan Smith, Nicolas Batum, Ronny Turiaf and Chris Johnson, and for Portland allowing 106 points. The victory puts the Blazers back where they belong, .500. The Spurs meanwhile remain in the upper echelon of the West but the 117 points allowed in regulation would have never happened during the Spurs' glory years. The Spurs were reportedly in talks to acquire defensive center Marcus Camby, who the Blazers shipped to New York in a deal earlier this week.28 28 22 28 106 | PTS: PTS: Neal (27); REBS: Blair (7); ASTS: Parker (10)
