Mr. Fundamental to return against Cleveland tonight nba.com/spurs/beat | November 19th, 2010
SAN ANTONIO -- Before reaching EnergySolutions Arena for yesterday's game against the Utah Jazz, Tim Duncan was convinced that he would be able to play at least a couple of minutes against the Jazz. He instead watched the action unfold from the Spurs' bench. “I wanted to play at least a little, but Pop & the medical staff kept me out,” Duncan said. “It was a little frustrating, but I should be thankful for them for giving me the chance to recharge my batteries.” He won't be forced to watch the next game. After being rested for two days, Tim will return to the starting lineup tonight when the Spurs host the Cleveland Cavaliers. TD practiced with the team for about 30 minutes before running through a series of solo drills. Duncan's return certainly comes at a good time for San Antonio, as the team will try to post another winning streak after losing at Oklahoma City last Monday (108-85), and Wednesday against Chicago (108-98), then finally defeating Utah yesterday (90-75).
What's gone wrong? The Spurs, 7-4, have struggled to knock down shots and are 22nd in total points per game (93.8). Tiago Splitter found his game quickly in Duncan's absense, as he posted 16 points, shooting 7-of-8 from the floor, to go with eight rebounds and four blocks, 12 of those 16 points in the first half. He picked up two early fouls in the third quarter that prevented him from getting into a rhythm in the second half. “I could say I played my game,” Splitter said. “I got the ball early because of their frontcourt, who got into foul trouble. My own foul troubles have taken me out of a lot of games before.” Duncan's return will help even more, since defenses won't be able to focus solely on Splitter or Manu Ginobili, who had 18 points in 8-of-14 shots.

Yeah I remember a lot of them from last year's. I hope Cousin and Gist kill everyone so I can give them burn with the Spurs They had a good start; will post them in the Weekly Rewind. If I post a game recap of every D-League nights (50 games), I'd go crazy.

Maggette, Duncan, Spurs rout Varejao, Cavaliers in 4th quarter rampage Preview | Recap | Game Info | Full Play-by-Play | Boxscores (CLE :: SAS)
SAN ANTONIO, November 20 -- The San Antonio Spurs exposed the shortcomings of the Cleveland Cavaliers in 24 destructive minutes. Corey Maggette scored 18 points to lead six Spurs in double figures and Tony Parker had 14 and 12 assists as San Antonio dominated the second half en route to a 111-87 thumping of the Cavaliers. Cleveland is playing without injured backups Leon Powe and Christian Eyenga; despite the absence of these two, the Cavs recovered from a 12-point deficit in the first half to lead 52-49 at halftime, but had no one fill their shoes later and were outrebounded 18-9 in the final 24 minutes. Cavaliers coach Byron Scott said, “We felt the loss of Leon and Christian in the second half. Their defensive presence could have come in handy. We lost our intensity. They made a run and we knew that they were going to because all good teams make a run. They got back quick and we struggled to make our shots.”
Manu Ginobili scored 10 of his 13 points in the second half: “Our defensive pressure picked up,” Ginobili said. “We stayed close to them and we didn't let them shoot comfortably. I think we were all displeased with the first half, thanks to some changes by Pop we could get a big win.” With the Cavaliers up, 63-50, the Spurs went into a 20-5 run, taking their first lead since the opening quarter at 70-68 on a 3-pointer by Gary Neal with 1:31 left. Ginobili and Tim Duncan gave San Antonio the lead for good with a jumper and a tip shot, respectively, for a 74-71 lead, as Cleveland's Mo Wiliams made a 3-pointer. Rookie James Anderson scored all 10 of his points in the third quarter, a new career-high, including a buzzer-beater trey to enter the last period with a 78-71 lead. “We got a mind-washing speech from Pop at halftime and I think our concentration level really picked up,” Anderson said. “We know we're a better team than we showed in the first half, I've no doubt about that.” Tiago Splitter added 8 points and a career-high 15 rebounds, while Duncan finished with 16 points but a season-worst 3 rebounds.
Williams finished with 11 points and 9 assists and Anderson Varejao had a team-high 17 points and ten rebounds for Cleveland, who shot 46 percent (37-of-80) and only held an advantage in second chance points: 10-8. Antawn Jamison and Joey Graham added 13 points apiece for Cleveland, who came to Texas with a five-game winning streak; newcomers Ramon Sessions and Ryan Hollins posted 10 points each. “Our defensive intensity in the second half just disappeared,” Sessions said. “It's very tough being shorthanded. We can do nothing about it but continue to try and play hard and get through it. We just have to suck it up.” Jamison added, “It's a 48-minute game. We played about 18 minutes of the first half extremely well... we gave them the lead back and in the second half they exploded. They are a team playing with a lot of confidence. They came down and moved the ball, found open shooters, and we just could not respond to it. They turned up the heat on defense and we didn't respond.”
Dang! Tiago had 15 rebounds, and almost a double-double!!!! Is J.J. Hickson doing good for those cavs? They are 7-5 didn't expect the cavs to have an above .500 record

Thanks man, also pleased with Tiago's contribution. He took all those rebounds from TD, only 3 Hickson is the 6th man -- 11 points, 6 rebounds, 1 block per game... I'd say early 6th man candidate.

Maggs went 9-of-12, that's great Timmmaaay, yes, playing less minutes
hova- wrote:Good win, but you really need to change your sliders. You need more fouls!
Thanks Hov, and yes, the sliders still need changes... the only way to reach 110 points is if I shoot close to 60%
No one saw James Anderson's shot?

You need at least 15 freethrows for each team per game if you ask me.
About the shot ... I don't watch your vids often honestly. I go through the recap, but I don't want to spend another 5 mins on the vid. You better post some shorter highlight clips of shots you liked during the game. Would be better imho.

The Toros game I simmed, they had 45 free throws. About the videos, I'm happy with how they look right now, but I'm open to suggestions. Might add more signature highlights, then.
Martti. wrote:Great shot by Anderson, almost a 4-point play. (There, happy? hahaa, just kidding)
It was a must win and you didn't disappoint.
It was a huge shot Varejao was a frustration, but in the 4th quarter I took them out of the stadium.
Before you say anything -- I created Blevessi myself. I'd say, my own attempt at a Moses Chara

That Swiss kid looks amazing, but those are unreal stats for Euroleague. 41 points in a game is the record and this dude averages 33+. Averaging 25-8-5 should be enough, those are monster averages.

My bad, didn't check any Euroleague stats. Fixed

Weekly Rewind N° 4 • Dallas, Grant Hill, injuries, rumors and more... nba.com/spurs/morningcoffee | November 21st, 2010
SAN ANTONIO -- Welcome to the latest installment of my “Morning Coffee” blog, Spurs fanatics. I have some more tidbits here in the table for us to discuss. I'm doing a weekly report with things that happened around the league, including: in my opinion, the most interesting game of the week; signings & waivings; POTW honors; injury report and trading rumors. Hope you join the discussion!
• Nowitzki, Terry steer Mavs to victory over Bulls • Dallas lost Dirk Nowitzki in the first game of the season to injury, but still opened the season 10-2. Imagine if Dirk never left the squad. The Dallas Mavericks defeated the Chicago Bulls 118-102 on November 19 with 30 points and 12 rebounds from the German and 29 points from Jason Terry. “I wouldn't have dreamed that we could have this record,” Terry said. “We had some injuries and I thought, 'we're going to have some struggles', but we never stopped so I'm really happy we have this record.” Nowitzki more than made up for lost time in the sidelines, and is the team's leading scorer with a 25.6 average. Derrick Rose led Chicago with 32 points and Richard Jefferson added 26, shooting a combined 24-of-37 shots (64.8%).
• Grant Hill to sign extension with Phoenix • The Phoenix Suns have wasted no time offering Grant Hill a contract extension. Hill's agent confirmed today that he received an offer from Phoenix; Hill declined to discuss specifics, but said that that he wants to wait and see what moves Phoenix makes to bring the team closer to championship contention before he decides on signing the extension. Suns general manager Lance Blanks, indeed, reached out to his talented forward the first hour he was allowed to sign him to a contract extension. That overture, however, did nothing to end the waiting game, despite Blanks and Hill's agent confirming that an extension offer that would keep Hill around was placed on the table. “There's nothing further to discuss other than I got a call at 1:00 in the morning,” Hill said today.
• Players of the Week • The Golden State Warriors' Monta Ellis and the Miami Heat's LeBron James today were named the Western and Eastern Conference Players of the Week, respectively, for games played November 14-20. Ellis' Warriors posted a 2-0 week with the guard averaging 38.0 points, 5.0 rebounds and 7.0 assists; he scored 40 points, seven rebounds and 6 assists in a 106-81 win over New York. Miami had a 2-1 week as James averaged 19.3 points, 9.0 rebounds and 8.6 assists per game, including 19 points and 17 rebounds in a 91-78 win over Phoenix, and 22 points and 12 assists in a 107-78 defeat of Memphis.
• Injury report • Sorted by injuries with most duration, here you can check the full injury report. An MRI exam confirmed that Brandon Jennings suffered a torn hamstring and will be out at least 6 weeks; a timetable for his return will be set after an evaluation. Already reeling from an injury to Udonis Haslem, the Miami Heat lost center Joel Anthony for at least a month to a broken foot, according to a league source. Dallas' Brendan Haywood became the league's latest injury victim, as he also tore his hamstring and will miss at least a month of action.
• Bill Walker to Miami in quick trade • The Miami Heat acquired swingman Bill Walker from the New York Knicks in exchange for guard Carlos Arroyo, the league announced today. With injuries to Wilson Chandler and Raymond Felton, the Knicks needed a point guard to take the reigns. Arroyo averaged 3.1 points, 1.2 rebounds and 1.6 assists this year with the Heat. “This trade will give Carlos the opportunity to get more quality time on the court,” Knicks coach Mike D'Antoni said. “We thank Bill for his time in New York and we wish him well.” Walker was a fan favorite in the Big Apple despite playing limited minutes, averaging 2.1 points and 1.2 rebounds in only 5.7 minutes per game with the Knicks. He is now LeBron James' backup in Miami; “It's gonna be fun, no doubt,” Walker said of his shape taking form in Miami. “I’ve always dreamed about playing on a big squad like this, and I’m just happy I can get the chance. It was frustrating a bit not getting the chance to show myself with New York, but it is part of the business and I just had to stay ready. It’s paying off now.”
• Trade rumors • Rumors are just too much after only 24 days of the season. This time in Denver; a city that since the arrival of George Karl has seen itself in the Western Conference playoffs. The last couple of days have seen a lot of reports, the last claiming that Ty Lawsonmay be on his way out of Pepsi Center, and also the never-ending reports of Carmelo Anthony leaving for either New York or New Jersey, and as a cherry on the top of this rumor sundae, some other media claimed Kenyon Martin would test free agency next summer. The real question is: what will happen with Karl's future is all these 3 names are out ot Denver next season? One version says that Karl will stay next to manager Masai Ujiri and rebuild the team, while the other version reported that Karl wouldn't stand seeing all these players leave and would also leave the team.

Martti. wrote:Arroyo for Walker. Don't imagine the Heat doing that in a million years.
I just went through the team stats and saw the guys with less minutes, that would benefit with a trade. Both Arroyo and Walker were playing less than 10 mins per game, and now both are 1st backups in their new teams; Arroyo for Felton and Walker for Bron.

Thanks man. It's quite some work, but it's fun and I'm really happy with how it turned out Just for you to know, I'm leaning for a Wizards story when I'm done with two seasons here. May ask you for advice or any ideas

Think of a 05/06 or 06/07 LeBron. And yes, I won't think about the idea anymore! Just wrote it down for the future. Spurs don't stop!

Nice scouting and Coffee section. The Swiss must be awesome. So Thabo won't be alone in the league next year. I doubt that you will get a lottery pick anyway, but maybe you get some decent draft steals like the Spurs irl.
