Odom winning it is pretty realistic, even if he wasn't quite as good as he was in your Bulls.

Chicago advances to second round after 104-103 Game 5 victory

Image

Chicago, IL - Gilbert Arenas' Last second 70 foot fling bounced high off the rim and miraculously went in.

Alas, for the Wizards, even divine intervention wasn't enough.

Behind a solid team effort, the Chicago Bulls take game 5 with a 104-103 victory and advance to the second round for the first time since the 2006-07 season when they swept the then defending champions Miami Heat.

Dwyane Wade bounced back nicely following a mediocre game 4 and posted a game high 29 points while Derrick Rose continues his spectular play with 25 points and 8 assists. Joakim Noah had 11 points and dominated the boards once again, finishing with 16.

Luol Deng had 9 points and 9 rebounds, while Josh Smith finished with a solid 12 point, 7 rebound and 2 block performance.

Energized by the home crowd, the Bulls were determined to finish the series right here on their home floor, and got out to a blazing start and an early lead. However, they nearly blew it in the fourth quarter with the Wizards making a 16-0 run against Chicago's bench.

"That scared me a little, to be honest" said Bulls coach Byron Scott "But we held it out and got the win"

Led by Gilbert Arenas, who finished with 23 points and 9 assists, including the last second heave, the Wizards fought desperately and valiantly, but it just wasn't enough.

Game 5 also marked the return of Mike Miller to the Wizards' lineup, and he would not disappoint as he dropped in 21 points on 9 for 16 shooting. The rest of the Wizards also showed terrific effort, clearly outplaying theirselves from the blowout loss in game 4.

Tyrus Thomas exploaded onto the scene with 18 points and 9 rebounds, while Josh Howard added 13 points, 5 assists and 4 boards. Chris Bosh, on the otherhand, had another solid outing with 16 points and 11 rebounds.

"Props to them, they came out ready and took the win" said Arenas following the game "We wish them good luck in the next series"

The Bulls were on fire offensively, as they shot well over 50% from the floor (44/80) and dropped in 5 of their 11 three point attempts. The Wizards distributed the ball better, out-assisting the Bulls 31-19, but it was Chicago who had the last laugh.

The Bulls will now wait on the winner of the Charlotte-Boston Series, the series is currently tied at 2 games apiece and game 5 will be played out tomorrow.

Congrats on holding them off. Not quite the thriller the score would suggest, but you definitely proved that you were the superior team. Seems weird for you to be out of the first round though. :P

Maybe Boston will be your 2nd round matchup. Nice locking Wizards, loving that L.O. won the 6th man, but not the Big Z M.I. Player.

I don't like the Most Improved selection either, and i certainly don't hope for Boston in the second round (cause they are a lot harder for my team to handle compared to the Bobcats)

Howard wins Kia Defensive Player of the Year Award
By Official release

NEW YORK -- Dwight Howard of the Orlando Magic is the recipient of the 2010-11 NBA Defensive Player of the Year Award presented by Kia Motors, the NBA announced today, marking the second time the All-Star has earned the honor.

The 6-11 center led the league in both rebounding and blocks with averages of 14.1 rebounds and 3.4 block shots per game. He also had a team best 22.1 points and shot just under 60% from the field (59%). He also became only the fifth player in NBA history to lead the league in rebounding for at least three consecutive seasons.

Howard, a five-time NBA All-Star, helped the Orlando Magic to their fourth consecutive Southeast Division title (54-28) and the league's third best record behind the Los Angeles Lakers (60-22) and the Chicago Bulls (55-27).

Howard received 576 points, including 110 first-place votes, from a panel of 122 sportswriters and broadcasters throughout the United States and Canada. Coming in second place was San Antonio Spurs' Power Forward Tim Duncan, who finished with 136 points. Last season's defensive player of the year, Josh Smith of the Chicago Bulls, came third with 113 points. Players were awarded five points for each first-place vote, three points for each second-place vote and one point for each third-place vote received.

The 2010-11 NBA Defensive Player of the Year Award presented by Kia Motors is part of a series of on-court performance awards called "The NBA Performance Awards Presented by Kia Motors." The series, currently in its third season, is a significant part of the multiyear marketing partnership between Kia Motors America and the NBA, and also includes the Most Improved Player, Sixth Man and Most Valuable Player of the Year Awards. It also includes the Eastern and Western Conference Players of the Month presented by Kia Motors, which are awarded during the regular season.

2011 NBA Playoffs Preview: Conference Semifinals
Image

Western Conference
1. Los Angeles Lakers (60-22) v 4. Houston Rockets (49-33)

Key Rotation
Los Angeles Lakers: Derek Fisher | Kobe Bryant | Ron Artest | Pau Gasol | Andrew Bynum | Lamar Odom | Shaquille O'Neal
Houston Rockets: Aaron Brooks | Kevin Martin | Trevor Ariza | Antawn Jamison | Yao Ming | Luis Scola | Shane Battier

Comment: Rematch of the 2010 Conference Semis will take place as the 60 win defending champs will once again take on the Houston Rockets in the second round of the Western Conference playoffs. The Rockets have since upgraded with the addition of Kevin Martin and Antawn Jamison, as well as gained valuable experience from their first round battles against the tough Denver Nuggets team, however, the Lakers are in top shape following the sweep of LeBron James' Sacramento Kings team, and are well rested and prepared for the Rockets. Additionally, no one apart from Yao Ming on the Rockets team will be able to handle the Lakers' array of centers that includes Andrew Bynum, Pau Gasol and a rejuvenated Shaquille O'Neal. This should be a decent series but expect the Lakers to advance without too much problems.

ESPN Prediction: Lakers in 5

2. Oklahoma City Thunder (53-29) v 3. Phoenix Suns (51-31)

Key Rotation
Oklahoma City Thunder: Russell Westbrook | James Harden | Kevin Durant | Jeff Green | David Lee | Cole Aldrich | Eric Maynor
Phoenix Suns: Steve Nash | Leandro Barbosa | Grant Hill | Amare Stoudemire | Robin Lopez | Jason Richardson | Goran Dragic

Comment: It's youth against experienced as the youngest team in the NBA - OKC - will square off with one of the oldest teams in the league in Phoenix. The Key matchups here is obviously the former 2 time NBA MVP Steve Nash against the young and energetic Russell Westbrook, as well as the scoring machine of Kevin Durant against a former superstar in Grant Hill. This should be an interesting and exciting series to watch as both teams like to run the floor and score quickly and effectively. Either team winning this series would not be an upset.

ESPN Prediction: Phoenix in 7

Eastern Conference
1. Chicago Bulls (55-27) v 5. Boston Celtics (45-37)

Key Rotation
Chicago Bulls: Derrick Rose | Dwyane Wade | Luol Deng | Josh Smith | Joakim Noah | Kyle Korver | Anthony Morrow
Boston Celtics: Rajon Rondo | Ray Allen | Paul Pierce | Kevin Garnett | Kendrick Perkins | Rasheed Wallace | Delonte West

Comment: It's the defending Eastern Conference Champions against this year's Eastern Conference favourites in this conference semifinals matchup as the oldest team in the league takes on the uprising Chicago Bulls, who has had a fantastic year with the addition of superstar Dwyane Wade and former Defensive player of the year Josh Smith. Boston, on the otherhand, has not made any changes but are as good as ever, with Rajon Rondo quickly emerging as one of the top all-rounded point guards in the league and the big three still bringing it every night, they remain a title contender. Both teams are great on the defensive end and it'll be up to the quality of their execution to determine the series.

ESPN Prediction: Chicago in 6

2. Orlando Magic (54-28) v 3. Philadelphia 76ers (47-35)

Key Rotation
Orlando Magic: Jameer Nelson | Vince Carter | Mickael Pietrus | Rashard Lewis | Dwight Howard | Randy Foye | Marcin Gortat
Philadelphia: Louis Williams | Allen Iverson | Andre Iguodala | Elton Brand | Samuel Dalembert | Marreese Speights | Jrue Holiday

Comment: A comeback season from Allen Iverson has the Sixers in the second round for the first time since the 2002-03 season after a spectular 7 game series with the Miami Heat in the first round. Their opponent, however, will be the Eastern Conference powerhouse Orlando Magic, who easily demolished the Atlanta Hawks in the first round behind Dwight Howard's dominating paint play. Philly would be outmatched at nearly every position and they would need big performances from their two superstars, Allen Iverson and Andre Iguodala, in order to stand a chance in this series. This will also mark the return of the rivarly between Iverson and Magic star Vince Carter, as the two go head to head in a playoff series for the first time since the memorable duel back in 2000-01 Conference finals.

ESPN Prediction: Orlando in 5
