John Wall guarantees NBA championship win
by thatwizardguy, NBA Network

Associated Press

WASHINGTON — You've heard the "guarantee" from Joe Namath and his New York Jets -- Now you get to hear how John Wall tells news reporters that the Washington Wizards will defeat the Los Angeles Lakers in Game seven, in the 2011 NBA Finals in two months time.

Wall, over the phone told the analyists at ESPN. "For sure we know we can get there, we have the talent, so why not? I believe we can get there, we now we can, I gaurantee that we get there and beat the Lakers in seven games."

The young rookie from Kentucky will now have a big chip on his shoulder to carry the team throughout the playoffs, as he has done during the regular season.

Wall who shocked the world with a great first season, as is the #1 candidate for Rookie of the Year carried on and said. "I've seen some great players bail on their players lately, I want to make the winning buzzer shot, It's what I want to do."

The Point Guard has averaged over 25 points per game and just over nine assists per game with just one game to left to play. They wrapped up the #2 seed weeks ago and was over taken by the Miami Heat earlier for the conference lead.

The predicted teams to go through are the Heat, Wizards, Knicks, Magic, Celtics, Bulls and Raptors. They lost to three of those teams, although they laid a whoopin' on the Heat, they didn't fare so well against Boston or the Bulls.

But Wall and the Wizards arn't scared, they are up for the "challenge".

Ok last game of the season, I really can't be bothered to do a recap the Bobcats beat me 75-71, I erased a 17 point deficit during the fourth quarter, but couldn't get it done.

Wall recorded 16 points and 10 assists, Josh Howard recorded 20 points - For the Bobcats Derek Fisher recorded 23 points and 8 assists.

Wall wins Rookie of the Year; Lebron takes home MVP
by thatwizardguy, NBA Network

Associated Press

WASHINGTON — For the third consecutive season Lebron James took home the players most coveted award -- The Most Valuable Player of the season.

But as always, there will be drama surrounding the awards. As we take a look back at many decisions and the decision, the 2010-11 season has not dissapointed with it's fair share of few surprises and excellent played basketball.

For the Washington Wizards, first overall draft pick John Wall took home the award for Rookie of the year after he carried the Wizards throughout his first season, and took them back to the playoffs.

Wall was four time rookie of the month (November, December, January and April) and also took home an All-Star and 1st team all-rookie honors.

But coach Flip Saunders still didn't think that was enough mention for the Rookie who averaged over 25 points a game.

"He's better than Lebron, he should of got that award as well, were not going to cry over it, since I still think we have the best team in the NBA, and player in Wall, so we are just going to put our heads down and accelerate during the playoffs."

COMPARING TWO GREAT ROOKIES

I got robbed on the MVP, I didn't even come top 5 but I had 1 million votes to the all-star, i only played 2 games in the final 2 months, so that's why probably it went to Lebron :(.

BTW If the Celtic numbers looked mucked up, it's due to trades, since I have a celtic on my team (daniels)

Also that stat of lebron and wall was they're rookie seasons, Lebron had 27 points per game, but Wall was definitley a more valuable player to his team.

Spotlight game: No. 7 Boston Celtics at No. 2 Washington Wizards

Image
Much-anticipated John Wall has not disappointed Wizard fans

Place: Verizon Center, Washington, D.C.
Time: 7:30 p.m. ET
TV: ESPN

Three Reasons why Washington will win

John Wall. Even with the insane amount of hype when John Wall arrived in Washington, he lived up to and exceeded every expectation of him, which included carrying the Washington Wizards throughout the season to the #2 seed in the Eastern Conference. Wall is averaging 25.0 points per game and just over 9 assists this season, points usually not recorded by rookies, not even the great ones like Lebron averaged 25 points per game. The Wizards will really need to count on John Wall and during the playoffs if they want to caputre their second NBA Championship, and the first since 1978.

Speed over Age. The Washington Wizards roster is filled with a ton of prospects and speedy young athletes, it's strongest advantage is Boston's biggest weakness, the Celtics starting lineup is old and the top 3 players are all older than 31 years old. If the Wizards control the court through the passing game, they should be able to score a lot of baskets on this aged Boston Celtics basketball team.

Shootin' at da hoops. The Wizards were the best team when trying the field goals, they scored on 63% of their field goals, the second best team was in the 44%, the Celtics wern't even in the top five, so the Wizards have far better accurate shooters which includes the most accurate in the league this season -- Andray Blatche. Expect the Wizards to go for a lot more two pointers than three pointers.

Three Reasons why Boston will win

Frontcourt Depth. The Wizards may be filled with a lot of speedy prospects, but in what the Boston Celtics lack (speed) they make up with experience, they recently won the the NBA Finals (2008) and have been to the Eastern Conference for the past few seasons. The Celtics are stacked at depth, and plenty of ballers who would take the buzzer shot to win the game, expect Rajon Rondo to have a big game.

Winning Mentality. The Boston Celtics know how the overcome adversity and win basketball games, the Celtics beat the Wizards in their only encounter this season, and will look to exploit the flaws the Wizards showed during that game and throughout the season.

Rajon Rondo. The Celtics are heavily relying on Rajon Rondo do outdo John Wall this game and the entire series if the Celtics have any chance to win, expect the Celtics to double team John Wall and ditto to Rajon Rondo with the Washington Wizards defense, Rondo will look to be a big impact on the passing game, he averaged near 12 assists per game, that's 3 better than John Wall, but Wall averaged 14 points more, so it's vital that Rondo get's his elite defensive game going early during the game.

Who Will win the game one: The Washington Wizards, John Wall, Homecourt Advantage and a young upstart team will be too much for the Celtics to handle.

The Washington Wizards played their first playoff game since April 16th 2008. It has been a 3 year long wait to get back.

But it was by far a wait that payed off -- The Washington Wizards took game 1 of the first round of the 2011 NBA Playoff series.

And what a game it was, even though the Celtics succumbed to the Washington Wizards 89-75, this series has all the intangibles to be a great one.

Wizards small forward Josh Howard scored a game high 24 points and went a blistering 4 of 4 on three pointers to erase a 10 point deficit the Celtics had built towards the start of the third quarter.

"Our boys played a great game today, they played like a team, I'm very proud of them, the whole city should be." said coach Flip Saunders, who has taken the Wizards to the playoffs in just his second season.

But a lot of that success has come under rookie point guard John Wall who played another clutch performence tonight. Wall recorded seven assists and went 9 of 15 on field goal, 2 of 4 on three pointers and a few free throws to give him a total 21 points -- Best for 2nd on the team.

"I just saw the basket open and when I was going I just slammed it in." said Wall at the post game conference on his slam dunk.

The Boston Celtics will come to challenge the Wizards for a second time in two days after their first attempt was unsuccessful.

"We knew they were a good team." said Kevin Garnett who recorded just 10 points. "We knew it was going to be a hard matchup, but they played with poise even when they were down, credit to them they were the better team on the night."

Celtics coach Doc Rivers just told his players "to remain calm and win the next game to bounce back in the series."

"It's rivtal we win the next game, if we go back to our house 1-1, then we have a big chance of going up 2-1 in the series if we remain calm and play our natural basketball."

That's a big if, right now they can't underestimate the Washington Wizards again, or they will make you pay with their basketball.

The Washington Wizards are trying to make history -- and John Wall too.

The Washington Wizards are trying to become the first NBA team from having the first overall selection in the draft go to the NBA Finals that year and win it.

John Wall is chasing Magic Johnson's record of becoming the first NBA Finals MVP as a rookie. Wall recorded one of his best games of the season recording a big 29 points and 9 assists. Wall also played fluidly on defense blocking two shoots and went 13 of 19 on field goals.

"He's a special talent." said Kevin Garnett who's 2 shots were blocked by the man himself John Wall. "People look at Rookie, they see people like Magic, Lebron and Michael, but I gotta tell you, that John Wall needs to be included with those people as the best rookie ever."

Flip Saunders couldn't stop backing Wall calling him the "best player" in the game. "You saw why today, we killed the Celtics out there, and it's all because of John Wall."

The Boston Celtics came in trying to tie the series, but they let John Wall get open which caused catastrophic results which led to a 80-69 defeat to the Washington Wizards, who now take a 2-0 series lead and will travel to Boston for the next game.

Wall wasn't the only one that played great, Josh Howard also played brilliantly recording 16 points, 4 rebounds and went 8 of 0 on field goals. "He played a game we needed him to play, he was good all night long." said center Andray Blatche who recorded a low series 6 points.

Whilst the talk of the Washington Wizards is their offense, maybe it's time it's defense got some recognition in the league, they held Rajon Rondo to without a point although he recorded a hefty amount of assists.

"I couldn't get going" admitted Rondo. "That defense was inpenetrateable, I just couldn't get going that John Wall dude was there every frickin' time I tried to shoot some balls, he was just there, the dudes a solid player, and we need to take that seriously now, before they sweep us."

Whilst Paul Pierce (19 points) and Kevin Garnett (18 points) and solid games, it can't be said for the rest of the team.

"We simply were not good enough tonight." said Celtics coach Doc Rivers. "We played not good, we didn't play poised, we rushed our three pointers at the beginning trying to get a big fast lead, it backfired, two more losses and were done, we need to change things up, it's a good thing that we play in our own court next, or we could be 3-0 down."

The Celtics now have a big advantage towards them, their own court, which they did not lose in much this season. But then again, these are the Washington Wizards we are talking about.

Whatever the Boston Celtics try to do to stop John Wall and those Washington Wizards simply isn't working.

It might be simple to the Wizards to evade the Celtics gameplan -- but to those Boston Celtics it's like trying to find a person in a dimly lit Labyrinth.

John Wall's 38 points helped the Washington Wizards take game 3 of the first round of the 2011 NBA Playoffs with a convincing 95-86 victory over the Boston Celtics.

The Celtics looked old out there, just like they're age. Most of the starters with the exception of Rajon Rondo couldn't keep up with the young talents of John Wall and Nick Young.

The Boston Celtics dominating era might just be over with the emergence of the Washington Wizards in the Eastern Conference.

The Celtics couldn't stop the star rookie who recorded 38 points, 2 rebounds, 11 assists, 1 steal and a block. He also looked accurate going 19 of 22 field goals, he was 9 of 9 at one point.

"When you have to face John Wall, you have to completley change your game plan, you don't know what he's going to do, assist everybody or score the majority of the baskets, it makes it very hard indeed, I can't say were going to stop him, he might pull off a sweep against us." said Celtics coach Doc Rivers.

He wasn't the only one that caused trouble for the Boston Celtics defense, Nick Young recorded 12 points in just limited time, shooting 6 of 7 on field goals. The whole Wizards team throughout the first half scored 90% of they're field goals.

"We played a complete game today." said coach Flip Saunders. "Yi and Blatche was good on defense getting 14 rebounds, Wall was just a dynamic scoring hero and Young brought some speed off the bench."

Although the Celtics put some points up on the board themselves, Pierce (21), Allen (18), Garnett (16) and Rondo (16), the Celtics just couldn't handle the energized Wizards, a major reason why Wall has been able to outrun anyone on the court.

"You could see they couldn't keep up with us." commented Flip Saunders on the slowness of the Celtics.

"When we were putting points up, they just couldn't answer back because they don't have any speed, were looking forward to wrapping the series up with a sweep in game four."
