[The Washington Wizards are trying to make history -- and John Wall too.
The Washington Wizards are trying to become the first NBA team from having the first overall selection in the draft go to the NBA Finals that year and win it.
John Wall is chasing Magic Johnson's record of becoming the first NBA Finals MVP as a rookie. Wall recorded one of his best games of the season recording a big 29 points and 9 assists. Wall also played fluidly on defense blocking two shoots and went 13 of 19 on field goals.
"He's a special talent." said Kevin Garnett who's 2 shots were blocked by the man himself John Wall. "People look at Rookie, they see people like Magic, Lebron and Michael, but I gotta tell you, that John Wall needs to be included with those people as the best rookie ever."
Flip Saunders couldn't stop backing Wall calling him the "best player" in the game. "You saw why today, we killed the Celtics out there, and it's all because of John Wall."
The Boston Celtics came in trying to tie the series, but they let John Wall get open which caused catastrophic results which led to a 80-69 defeat to the Washington Wizards, who now take a 2-0 series lead and will travel to Boston for the next game.
Wall wasn't the only one that played great, Josh Howard also played brilliantly recording 16 points, 4 rebounds and went 8 of 0 on field goals. "He played a game we needed him to play, he was good all night long." said center Andray Blatche who recorded a low series 6 points.
Whilst the talk of the Washington Wizards is their offense, maybe it's time it's defense got some recognition in the league, they held Rajon Rondo to without a point although he recorded a hefty amount of assists.
"I couldn't get going" admitted Rondo. "That defense was inpenetrateable, I just couldn't get going that John Wall dude was there every frickin' time I tried to shoot some balls, he was just there, the dudes a solid player, and we need to take that seriously now, before they sweep us."
Whilst Paul Pierce (19 points) and Kevin Garnett (18 points) and solid games, it can't be said for the rest of the team.
"We simply were not good enough tonight." said Celtics coach Doc Rivers. "We played not good, we didn't play poised, we rushed our three pointers at the beginning trying to get a big fast lead, it backfired, two more losses and were done, we need to change things up, it's a good thing that we play in our own court next, or we could be 3-0 down."
The Celtics now have a big advantage towards them, their own court, which they did not lose in much this season. But then again, these are the Washington Wizards we are talking about.
