Thanks for posting the mistake. Laughed at myself. I'm not sure if my team will make conference finals again but I do think we can make the second round.

Glad you enjoyed the read. More updates coming up too!

You're welcome.

Looking forward to them.

Monthly Recap: March
Part One: Team Report, Results, League Standings, Player Stats

Monthly Recaps are divided into several parts in order to give readers a quick and organized overview. Part One of the Monthly Recap provides the league standings and player statistics; divided into the two conferences. It also features the Seattle Stealth’s’ team report and results of games played in the last month. Part Two will feature news, player awards, and transactions.

Team Report

Whilst seemingly unstoppable at home, the Seattle Stealth’s deficiencies away from their home arena were highlighted in the middle of March during a five game road trip in which they went 1-4. It could have been 0-5 had the Stealth not battled back from a double digit margin to win in Chicago against the Bulls.

The win against Chicago and a return to Seattle for two games was a perfect remedy for the ailing side as they romped to an eight game win streak afterwards. With just 7 games left in the regular season, Seattle looks poised to make a postseason appearance and look strong enough to make the second round. The side is an impressive 28-10 at home. The Stealth’s form has been top notch after going 11-5 for the month.

The only negative for the side has been an injury bug that has affected most of the roster for the season. The latest casualties have been David Lee for a short period of time at the start of March whilst Raja Bell recovered from injury midway through the month. As if it was planned, starting SG Reshawn Tyson went down with a strained groin injury. The biggest blow to date this season; Tyson will be out for up to 4 weeks and looks set to miss the beginning of the playoffs.

Kevin Durant should be more than capable of keeping the Stealth competitive as he continues to pile up the points of opposing teams. Durant currently sits atop of the League in points per game at 30.5. The self proclaimed ‘best scorer in the league’ stated after a close win against Division rivals Denver, “You all better watch out for me in the playoffs. This is my team and I am not letting us lose.”

great streak at home still, but with regards to that road trip...DAMN, couldn't you go 4-1 and only LOSE to the Bulls instead of going 1-4 and only beating them?
anyhow, if you keep this home streak up, you'll keep your spot in the playoff standings without a sweat (Y)

Right now, it's about where we are in the top 8. Trying to avoid Portland.

Portland with the best record in the league is awesome. (Y) Love their squad in this dynasty. Glad the team is going strong. I think you should look to avoid not only Portland, but Denver as well. A good month could get you the fourth seed and homecourt against the Hornets or Warriors. GOOOOOOO STEALTHHHHHH!!!!!!

Awesome March recap, I see that the Cavaliers have a great record so far but Lebron James isn't one of the top 5 PPG scorers, I find that strange. :P I just realized too how easy it would be for a slip-up in April to cause you to drop to 8th against Portland, I thought there'd be a little more space but it's really tight! Good luck Sit, looking forward to the other 4 recaps for March. :D

Portland is strong. I can't beat them because they just keep throwing alley-oops against me... Bogut/Lee/Sheed don't stand a chance... but means Rocky Akonnor will probably get a lot of minutes against the Blazers. I'm not too worried about the Nuggets and The X will be happy too that he will have a shot at shooting down my Stealth.

And in a first for the Association, a lot of NLSCers may actually participate in the postseason! :)

Monthly Recap: March
Part Two: Around The League

Monthly Recaps are divided into several parts in order to give readers a quick and organized overview. Part Two of the Monthly Recap is the ‘Around the League’ recap, which features player awards, transactions, and other League news. Part Three will feature a Team Focus feature on the Miami Heat!

Player Awards

Eastern Conference Player Of The Month:
PF Jay Gray, Milwaukee – 19.6 ppg | 13.1 rpg | 5.0 apg
Western Conference Player Of The Month:
SF Moses Chara, Sacramento – 30.0 ppg | 8.1 rpg | 6.7 apg
Eastern Conference Rookie Of The Month:
PF Jay Gray, Milwaukee – 19.6 ppg | 13.1 rpg | 5.0 apg
Western Conference Rookie Of The Month:
PG Ray Lliach, LA Clippers – 14.7 ppg | 3.6 rpg | 7.2 apg

Award Races

Race 2 MVP

1. SF L James, Cleveland (24.4 ppg, 10.0 rpg, 7.6 apg) – The Cavs have the second best record in the East, and third best in the League. LeBron James has been brilliant all season long, at times flirting with averaging a triple double. There seems to be no disputing that he will win MVP.

2. SG D Wade, Miami (29.1 ppg, 4,6 rpg, 6.8 apg) – Wade’s all-around game is as impressive as James’ but the Heat SG has Michael Beasley as a capable wingman. Miami is the best team in the East and also second best team in the League but Wade loses out to James because of a better supporting cast.

3. PG C Paul, New Orleans (22.9 ppg, 4.4 rpg, 10.5 apg) – Paul has been the best PG in the World for so long but he has been unlucky in the sense that New Orleans has not surrounded him with talent to get this team to the next level.

4. SG B Roy, Portland (19.6 ppg, 5.4 rpg, 5.9 apg) – Brandon Roy is the best player on the best team in the NBA however he has the support of All-Star talents such as Carlos Boozer, Steve Nash, and the rising Greg Oden. He gets a mention here because of how brilliant Portland has been and how they look like prime championship candidates.

5. SF K Durant, Seattle (30.5 ppg, 4.6 rpg, 2.0 apg) – The NBA’s leading scorer would have looked like an afterthought but his form on the offensive end along with Seattle on a tear helps Durant break into the top 5 of this list for the first time this season.

Rookie Rankings

1. PF J Gray, Milwaukee (19.6 ppg, 13.1 rpg, 5.0 apg) – With the trading away of Andrew Bogut, Jay Gray has stepped into the shoes of team ‘superstar’ very fondly. Selected to play in the NBA All-Star Game, Gray looks like a legend in the making. A playoff spot for next season does not look too far-fetched now.

2. PG R Lliach, LA Clippers (14.7 ppg, 3.6 rpg, 7.2 apg) – Former UConn star is enjoying instant success with Amare Stoudamire and the LA Clippers. The Clippers have never looked so good since they made the playoffs in 2006. Lliach has looked like a season pro, leading this young outfit towards the postseason.

3. C DJ Schmidt, New Jersey (10.7 ppg, 7.2 rpg, 2.6 apg) – Although some may argue that Jeremy Mason is the better individual player, no one can argue with Schmidt having a bigger impact on both ends of the court. The young big man is improving quickly and could average a double double next season.

4. PG L Nixon, Golden State (11.9 ppg, 1.9 rpg, 6.1 apg) – Louis Nixon has become a fan favorite in Golden State and also a frontrunner for Sixth Man of the Year honors. An interesting fact: Nixon called former Warriors PG Gilbert Arenas to ask for advice on playing in the league. It looks like Agent 0’s advice worked.

5. PF L Chase, Phoenix (8.6 ppg, 7,4 rpg, 0.3 apg) – Leo Chase gives Suns fans an exciting and athletic frontcourt player to cheer on. It’s unsure whether Chase will ever get a hold of the fundamentals of basketball but it is undeniable that his leaping ability and open personality hold much value for fans.

Utah Jazz Hire Sam Mitchell

After a disastrous season, the Utah Jazz finally fired head coach Derek Ryan and replaced him with former Toronto Raptors coach Sam Mitchell. Mitchell led the Raptors to the playoffs over two consecutive seasons in 2006-07 and 2007-08. Longtime Jazz coach Jerry Sloan was happy with the appointment, “I think that Sam is a great choice to lead Deron (Williams) and Joe (Johnson). The success he also had with Chris Bosh could really appeal to Donnell Lawrence.”

Carlos Boozer’s Broken Hand

The first placed Portland Trailblazers suffered a big blow after Boozer injured himself during a 115-95 win against the Dallas Mavericks. Boozer was diagnosed with a broken hand and is expect to be sidelined for up to 6 weeks. “This is a really big disappointment,” Steve Nash said, “But we are very confident that we have what it takes to play well until Carlos comes back.”

Gerald Green Hurt

After a successful return to the team that drafted him, Green broke his ankle and is now slated to be out for up to 6 weeks. Green, the Celtics’ sixth man and touted as a future replacement for Ray Allen in the starting five, is averaging career best numbers of 14.2 ppg, 4.3 rpg, and 2 apg.

NBA.com’s Pure Point Guard Rating has Jason Kidd on top. The statistic looks exclusively at a player’s ability as a pure point guard and his ability to run an offence. Kansas-Texas Final Four Game: Most Anticipated For 2011

Kansas and Texas Tech are preparing for a clash of the titans as both teams continue their stellar seasons, being led by their two stars. Kansas PF Aaron Flores and Texas Tech SG Larry Williams will take to the court in two days to battle for a spot in the NCAA Final.

The 24 year old Williams exploded onto the scene this year by upping his scoring average from 12.3 to 19.5. The 6’4” G has always been a double digit scorer but has never averaged more than the 13.8 he averaged in his freshman year. Williams has been described by scouts as having ‘a tremendous touch from outside, outstanding playmaking ability, and a lock-down perimeter defensive game’. Williams is looking like a lock to be selected in the top 5 of next year’s NBA Draft.

20 year old Flores also looks set to make a jump to the NBA after a very impressive season with Kansas. Although he lacks any true strength, he plays with a lot of heart and might not be able to replicate the success of this season. Flores ranks high on many scouting radars after averaging 15.6 ppg, 10.3 rpg for Kansas. An average rebounder and scorer, Flores relies on his size and quickness in the college ranks and some have pointed out their concern for his successful transition to the pro game.

Rubio Leads Barcelona

6’5” Spanish sensation Ricky Rubio continues his magical season in Europe with Euroleague favorites Barcelona. Rubio has led Barcelona to an undefeated campaign in Euroleague action where they recently booked themselves a place in the semi finals. In domestic competition, Barcelona has suffered just one loss all season. Rubio has averaged 9.3 ppg, 11.6 apg, and 2.3 spg for Barcelona across all competitions this season.

Sweet update. No love for Chara in the MVP rankings. The Kings just suck. Nice to see a bit of a real life discussion with Roy being in as the best player on the best team opposing to LBJ or KD.
Jay Gray seems like a decent player. Have you ever made a report about him? If not, Id love to see ;)

No love for Chara, he would have come 6th or 7th... Kings aren't that bad actually... just stuck in a really really strong conference.

Yeah, still don't know why rookies suck whenever I play association in 2K9. Simmed a season once, and it wasn't until 2020 that a draftee won MVP (a 7'1" PF by the name of Ellis Ellis :?)

Monthly Recap: March
Part Three: Team Focus

Monthly Recaps are divided into several parts in order to give readers a quick and organized overview. Part Three of the Monthly Recap is the Team Focus. This gives readers an opportunity to see how certain teams are going and to give them an idea of what their rosters look like now. A new team is presented each month! Part Four will be the NLSC Rookie Focus.

Image

TEAM RECORD 39-36 (4th Division, 6th Conference)
TEAM CHEMISTRY 81%

TEAM ROSTER

Player | Statistics (PPG, RPG, APG)

PG Jameer Nelson | 17.2, 4.4, 8.5
SG Courtney Lee | 17.7, 4.5, 4,9
SF Rashard Lewis | 25.8, 3.9, 1.7
PF Irvin Lane 3.5, 4.7, 1.5
C Dwight Howard | 18.7, 11.4, 0.6

- - -

SF Mickael Pietrus | 8.8, 2.9, 0.4
SG Keith Bogans | 8.4, 1.7, 0.6
C Hilton Armstrong | 2.5, 2.8, 0.8
C Dwayne Jones | 1.2, 3.1, 0.3
PG Corey Brady | 3.4, 0.7, 1.7

TEAM REPORT

Hedo Turkoglu’s departure for the Dallas Mavericks and a bigger contract has hurt Orlando a lot. The team has not found a player to fill Hedo’s shoes in the front court but luckily for them, Dwight Howard has stepped up and is averaging 18.7 ppg: his highest in the last three seasons.

Rashard Lewis leads the side with 25.8 ppg while All-Star PG Jameer Nelson is capable of a double double on any given night. Courtney Lee has been impressive since his rookie season, while Mickael Pietrus and Keith Bogans form a dependable two-man tandem coming from off the bench.

However, Orlando is lacking any real depth and talent in their frontcourt, which is also a reason why Howard finds it hard to put up points due to battling double team after double team. “We really need some new guys who will be able to come in and draw the coverage off of Dwight,” Lewis says, “We got guys who can shoot it but when we get stuck in a half court game, that’s when our troubles begin.”

The Magic have battled strong and worked hard to stay and keep up with the rest of the Eastern Conference but are on a very thin line between the average and mediocrity. Orlando will most probably be bundled out of the postseason this year in a hurry but their concerns should lie towards the Summer where they could really improve their squad because it is in desperate need of some re-tooling.

18.7 isn't a career high for Dwight. :? Nonetheless, good to see Lewis beasting. Shame to see the Magic not looking to hot. I really like their team. Always loved the team reports.

Yeah team reports are always ace... for Howard's career high, as Lamrock said, I think it's around the 20 ppg :P

It is in this dynasty. He's been averaging close to 12 ppg the last 2-3 seasons LOL

Stop trying to be smart :P

This association started with the 2008-09 season, but Howard put up 20.3 PPG in the 2007-08 season. ;)

Bringing Back Memories Of The Glory Days
Is Milwaukee’s rookie forward the most significant big man since Lew Alcindor?

If I were to make predictions as accurate as this one, I’m pretty sure I would not be working here for ESPN. The correct prediction does not display any kind of prowess on my part, it was just that this prediction was a no-brainer. Jay Gray was a ‘sure thing’; after all, it’s not every day that Gregg Popovich says that a player could ‘turn a franchise around.’

That’s right! As far as everything is concerned, Jay Gray was always going to be the real deal. In the eyes of respected coaches such as Pop as well as the hoards of NBA scouts and execs at his games for TCU, and in the eyes of guys like you and I; we all knew that Gray was going to be successful.

So let’s just see where I was right. The Bucks weren’t going to let Gray slip past two? Check. Gray is strong enough and smart enough to make a huge impact in the NBA? 20 points, 13 boards, 2 blocks: check. Gray should unanimously win Rookie of the Year? Unless Ray Lliach gets the voters on his side, it’s pretty hard to go past Gray so… check.

Seriously, the only thing Jay Gray has not done is get his team into the actual playoffs but that wasn’t entirely his own fault as the team has done so well with him at the helm after trading away Andrew Bogut earlier in the season. Gray has been phenomenal and the Bucks have actually grown into a respectable team. Gray’s numbers keep rising and don’t be surprised if he gets close to the averages he held in his last season of college ball during his sophomore NBA season. He is just that good.

Gray averaged 25 points, 15 rebounds, and close to 3 blocks during his last year at TCU. In comparison, his 20, 13, 2 do not look too shabby at all. In fact, he’s probably exceeded everyone’s expectations. The ever modest Gray even stated a few weeks ago, “I’ve surprised myself with how well I have adjusted to the NBA game.”

All of the success Gray has had can be attributed to his hard work. Listed at 6’9”, Gray is often said to be close to 6’6”. Many say he is 6’7” and only to be ‘generous’. As San Antonio Spur Tim Duncan said after a close encounter against Gray, “You never know how short he is until you see him. Lining up for tipoff, I felt so much taller than him but the way he plays makes you bite your tongue and take those words back. He is brutal.” Portland Trailblazers PF Carlos Boozer echoed the same sentiments, “Jay Gray is probably one of the best players I have ever played against. He is small but packs a punch.”

Gray’s success and his height disadvantage shouldn’t be seen as unusual as Gray models his game after one of the all-time greats, Charles Barkley. Barkley was shorter than most of the guys at his position too. Like Gray, Barkley stood tall and was a force to be reckoned with. Orlando’s Dwight Howard said, “I can’t believe I didn’t even pick it, the fact that Charles Barkley and Jay Gray are so alike.”

Gray works hard at his game. He is usually the first to make it to practice and then lifting weights to keep up his strength and conditioning. The tireless, hard work has surely paid off throughout the season and Gray admits that it’s a shame that he did not start the season so strong. “It took a while for me to get my feet wet and adjust to the pace of the NBA game,” Gray explains, “But now that I know what it takes, I can be ready to make a bigger impact at the start of next season.”

Gray also promises that there is more in stall for Milwaukee, “This is only the start of something big.”

Bucks fans are excited at the prospect of Gray fulfilling his promise for Milwaukee. It has been a long time since Lew Alcindor teamed up with Oscar Robertson to deliver a title to the Bucks. Alcindor was a dominant big man himself and Gray knows that Bucks fans sure are happy to see him around. Gray is a smart guy and knows that everyone loves him. But being the modest man and hard worker he is, he only brushes all of the bravado aside, “I’m here to help lead the team but without my team mates, there would be no me. These guys are part of my success and I thank them for that. I like to look at the bigger picture. We’re in this together.”

Not only is Gray a great basketball player; he has a most-humble personality and also professionalism to the highest degree to boot. What is there to hate about Gray? Nothing. You just cannot make yourself do that. And that is the beauty in all of this!

In a world of LeBron James’ and Moses Chara’s, it’s rare to find a star like Gray. He is a total gem.

And the best forward to come to the Bucks since Lew Alcindor?

Yes indeed.
