Re: Spurs' Richard Jefferson Calls Off $2 Million-Dollar Wedding

Sun Jul 19, 2009 3:13 pm

See, thats just it, I never said you were wrong. I take offense at you telling me I'm wrong when we both are simply giving our opinions. Like I said, if you want to change this from being about opinions to being about "facts" then its up to you to use your statistics. I'm simply offering what I see first-hand in my family and my friends.

If I was suggesting you were wrong I'd tell you "you are wrong". All I'm doing is offering my personal experiences. I have no problem with your alternate view, but you clearly have a problem with mine.

"Heavily implied" is another term for "I'm putting words in your mouth". Your perception of what is implied is nothing to do with what I'm saying.

It doesn't bother me if you think sticking with kids is "too high a standard to place on another human being". Up to you.

I don't claim to know everything, I simply know what I see/hear in marriages and children around me, I talk to them they are family. Why should I deny what I'm hearing? If you base your opinion on marriages/divorcees then thats fine with me too.

You are clearly twisting my words because you keep telling me what is "heavily implied". Just read the words, don't make up your own ideas of what I'm saying.

I said "you should know better" because you said it too, you are a moderator and they generally don't let things go off-topic.

Am I the only one who thinks that shaq33 is jackel?

I'm not trying to twist your words, I'm offering my interpretation your posts. Having clarified your position, I do understand it better now. We seem to have stopped arguing these points and are dangerously close to entering the murky depths of argumentum ad hominem though, so I would certainly agree to disagree at this point.

My response to your "you should know better" remark was meant to be friendly advice, though it admittedly came out more tersely than I would've liked. I felt like you were throwing it back in my face a little there especially with the use of the clapping emoticon, which in all honesty I think you're overusing and it is becoming annoying. Intended or not, it seems to convery a great deal of arrogance when used as you have been to punctuate a point and judging by a couple of other posts, it's beginning to irritate people. You obviously have much to say and a willingness to post here, so it's a habit you might want to drop. That's not a threat or a warning or anything like that, just a suggestion; take it as you will.

Clapping emoticon is offensive? I've been given rude sarcastic comments in my direction over and over, yet I'll censor my own posting by not using the clapping emoticon, ok....

Like I said, it's not a warning, it's a suggestion. I think you'll find some of those responses have come from the using of clapping emoticon as it seems to be conveying a tone you may not be intending.

No, if you do your research I didn't use the clap emoticon until recently, plus if someone finds the clap emoticon offensive I think they should man-up :applaud:

You've been registered for five days. Everything you've posted here has been posted recently. ;)

But since you asked for research...

Here
And here
And there
And this one
And that one
Also this one
This one
That one
And again
Another one
And another one
And another...

That's 12 of your 57 posts (as of this one of mine) that you've used that emoticon, or around 21%. Admittedly they're not all used in the context I described previously but it's not something you've started doing "recently", you did it in your fourth post which came within five hours of you registering your account.

plus if someone finds the clap emoticon offensive I think they should man-up

I'm sure there's a lot of forum vets who would say if you feel the posts arguing yours are "rude sarcastic comments in my direction over and over", then you need to "man-up". Much worse has been said (and it's been dealt with accordingly) and there's been a lot nastier in the way of ad hominem attacks.

Look, I've already explained it. Whether you intend to or not, using that clapping emoticon in some of your posts gives them that extra little smirk that comes off as potshot. Not all of them, but a select few. I'm just suggesting if you don't want to get what you feel are "rude sarcastic comments in (your) direction over and over", consider being a bit more conservative in using that emoticon.

If you want to keep using it, that's your choice. But please bear in mind that it suggests a tone that you might not intend (after all, it can be used quite sarcastically in its own right).

Just advice, not a warning. Do with it as you will.

I find it hard to distinguish which posts with the clap emoticon were offensive and which were not hurtful, I'm only applauding my own post (like on Oprah when someone claps their own message with gusto), not applauding sarcastically at anyone. You have to admit, your request is petty to say the least.

Re: Spurs' Richard Jefferson Calls Off $2 Million-Dollar Wedding

Sun Jul 19, 2009 5:51 pm

Well, others find tone hard to distinguish too. I'm not making a petty request, I'm not making any request at all nor a threat nor a warning. It's just a suggestion from someone who's seen plenty of threads get out of hand because subtle things - yes, even emoticons - suggest something other than the author intends. Take it how you will.

Well you know how I took it, petty (and this whole thread).

Re: Spurs' Richard Jefferson Calls Off $2 Million-Dollar Wedding

But that's not how it was intended. As you yourself said:

Your perception of what is implied is nothing to do with what I'm saying

shaq33 my initial opinion of you was that you were possibly mentally impaired... I see now that as far as literacy is concerned I was wrong and you are somewhat intelligent, but your attitude is garbage. I'm not sure if you're a returning poster or not because despite having been here two hours you have a sense of entitlement that most new guys don't. The sooner you lose this the better things will be for you. Despite the "WTF" value in a lot of your posts in this thread, I think you have some level of potential so don't ruin it by getting butt-hurt and feeling victimized by everything that's said to you.

Also, the clapping emoticon was annoying. Much like the  emoticon when used in a certain context can seem pretty arrogant.

You write well too, just need to get rid of the immature wordology like 'mentally impaired' and 'butt-hurt' and you might be respected :applaud:

You're still under the impression that someone was victimized by that emoticon?

That's what our moderator has told me, and the several complaints of others :D
