This helps both parties. C's get an upgrade from Moore and Wallace gets to play for a contender.

seems official now. really does anyone else get the vibe that the Celtics are exactly like the Miami Heat were a few years ago? a stockpile of older players looking to win a title? seems like those experiments have rarely worked. think LA back in 04 and miami when they had zo/williams/shaq/ej/dj/etc.

Well the Heat lineup that you mentioned did win a championship though.... Minus the Joneses who were at Memphis/Cleveland at the time.

In the playoffs yes, not during the regular season. (When he started instead of Walker.)

Which probably made their Finals run harder than it should have been.

Re: The Celtics.

The difference with those other teams is the players had long since lost their effectiveness, or were never actually that good. (And in the case of both...no bench!) If KG can bounce back to 2007-08, and Pierce/Allen match last season, along with Rondo's continued development into one of the leagues 15 best players, they'll be fine. (Although they should have kept Lowe cheaply.) This, like the Pistons of a few years back is an ideal Sheed situation. He doesn't want to be the man, he needs other leaders, after Billups left Detroit he imploded and gave up even more than he had the year before. (Yeah, this was possible. He somehow proved that.) KG for one certainly is not likely to let Sheed stand in one spot and hope it's a good offensive or defensive position without letting him know about it.

Wade was mighty good though, as were the refs. Having Zo, Haslem & Payton off bench didn't hurt either.

But yes, I'd have to agree, possibly one of worst title-winning starting 5 ever....

Thinking back, the 1994 Rockets' title-winning lineup of Hakeem, Thorpe, Horry, Maxwell & Kenny Smith wasn't too stellar either, but the team was quite well constructed around Olajuwon & everybody understood their roles....

Wouldn't you say the same about the Heat 2006 (Wade i/o Olajuwon)?

I'd say their intrinsic talent is comparable to most championship teams, especially with those three bench players you mentioned, if they wouldn't have had an avg age of 30+ they'd been a giant.

In many ways, the 1994 Rockets are the modern model of a contending team that cannot manage the 1990s Bulls model (and historically standard model) of three Superstars.

Superstar + Three Point Shooting + Defense. (+ Depth.)

Orlando certainly has something to say about it.

The most interesting thing about Miami is they won with the inferior regular season team (even in the playoffs, the prior year team had better individual performances) but that was actually a better team. The difference being the second team was better balanced, and they ran into an inferior Pistons team. (a.k.a. one without a bench)

I think Heat won in a down year (just like Lakers did this year)....I'd compare the Heat to Lleyton Hewitt when he was number one....most tennis commentator at the time said he was just an interim number one until a real one comes along, & as harsh as it seemed at the time, I can't really argue it now, being inbetween the likes of Sampras/Agassi & Federer/Nadal....if Mavs won, probably would've been the same....that's not to take it away from Heat, they got hot at the right time, Pistons choked again, Mavs did them a favour by beating Spurs & Suns (who would've won the title had they got past Mavs), Wade went berserk, refs did them a favour & Mavs choked big time....

Both Olajuwon & Wade were great in their respective Finals, except Dream did his against Ewing & Wade against Adrian Griffin....Wade was good though....great even....

Nice comparison. It makes sense but there's an important difference between Hewitt and Heat imo. The Heat didn't lack in talent but in fitness. Shaq, Zo, Payton and J-Will weren't nearly as able to produce what they could in their prime, but talent wise they're right up there, at least good enough to be part of a serious championship contender. I think also experience played an important role. In that sense maybe Carlos Sastre winning the Tour de France last year is a better comparison.
