Ultra high Player Detail Lag posible fix (20fps)

Postby migz15 on Mon Nov 10, 2008 11:07 am

I have a built in sound, the via HD audio. I saw in other game forums that you could gain more fps to see if you'll gain more fps by disableing built in Sound.

So I Did and it gained fps now im getting 25-33 fps instead of the locked 20 fps below on Ultra high player details.

what i did is disable first the sound in device manager, then run nba 2k9. play then exit the game, enable the sound then play nba 2k9 again now with sounds. I have the Pentium D 3.4 Ghz. Overclocked CPU will also give you fps improvements. You have to do this everytime to avoid the 20fps on your 2K9.

you can try this if your having the 20fps ultra high bug. Or buy a new sound card for PCI just dont use your built in sound. I think built in sounds are also getting resources from the CPU.

my Specs: Intel Pentium D 3.4 Ghz, 2Gig ddr2 800, Radeon HD3870 512mb.

good tip... it could be that your sound card is using software based DSP.

Yep, can confirm this as well. I went from a locked 20fps to 25-30fps depending where I am on the court. This was after disabling sound.

Hell ya... it works for me toonow i am getting from 23 - 32 FPS i guess i need to buy a new PCI sound card instead of my HD built-in one . again thanks for the heads up. (Y)

First you go to control panel then click the system icon after that click on the hardware tap at the top of the pop-up menu you will now see the device manager button click it and choose the sound icon then disable it and you are good to go. ;)

no you'll have to exit again then enable it, and play NBA 2k9 with sounds enabled on the device manager. I think this only applies to motherboard with built in sound.

maybe the time you disabled the sound it gives way for the cpu to just focus its resources to the game. then when you enabled it again it will just use a little.

so after playing a game with no sounds(just play the Jumpball part then exit), go to device manager again and enable it then run the game again with sounds enabled now!!

I havent tried this tweak to other games though.

What about turning the sound acceleration down?

This fix doesn't make any sense. Turning it off and on again does nothing to the amount of resources required to run the onboard sound. And also, onboard sound uses very little resources on the CPU. I mean, people with high end dual and quad cores are having problems here.

Here we go guys, go ahead and do this. Wow, did I see even more of a performance increase here. Found this on the 2k forums.

To configure virtual memory:

On Windows XP

- From the start menu, open Settings/Control Panel.
- Double click the System icon.
- Select the Advanced tab.
- Click on the Performance/Settings button.
- Select the Advanced tab.
- Click on the Virtual memory/Change button.
- Select the drive that NBA 2K9 is installed on.
- Select the "System managed size" radio button in the "Paging file size for selected drive".
- Click the Set button.
- Click OK multiple times to return to the desktop.

On Windows Vista

- From the start menu, open Settings/Control Panel.
- Select System and Maintenance.
- Select System.
- Select Advanced System Settings.
- Click on the Performance/Settings button.
- Select the Advanced tab
- Click on the Virtual memory/Change button.
- Check "Automatically manage paging file size for all drives"
- Click OK multiple times to return to the desktop.
