NBA 2k9 PC DEMO RELEASED

No tricks, just a treat, for hoops fans this halloween. You can now download the free PC demo of NBA 2K9 on Steam.

This demo lets you relive this past season’s exciting NBA Finals and play in a two-minute quarter as either the Los Angeles Lakers or Boston Celtics at the TD Banknorth Garden in Boston.

You will need a Steam account to download the demo, but it's easy:

Go to the NBA 2K9 Demo page on Steam and click "Install Game"
A pop-up will appear asking if you already have an account or if you need to create one
If you don't have an account, you will be directed to a apge where you can download and install the free Steam software. When the install is complete, Steam launches, and then you walked through the account creation process.
Once you have an account, you can download, install and play the NBA 2K9 demo.

I have the game but I tried it anyway. Doesn't work. So lulz. And "first!"

And more lulz at how blatantly copy-pasted that was.

And even more at how there's a demo for a game you still can't buy on Steam.

I still don't understand that. Steam was supposed to be a game delivery platform. But for 2K9 it's a platform to interfere with game launch, force people to see ads for games they don't want, a useless program running in memory.

Why am I saddled with Steam just because I want to play 2K9?

It's great that the demo is out but seriously dudes - BUY THE GAME! We should support these awesome guys at Take Two who saved our @sses this year with this awesome game.

I was reading EA's Peter Moore blog and the hatred I have for EA just returned. His main reason for canceling all the PC games (Madden, NBA, Tiger Woods) was because of piracy. We should make sure that Take Two gets a good profit from this great decision they made. I hope they don't change their minds in 2009 due to all the glitches (no activation key, etc.) and all the phone calls we made to their offices. Game developers definitely don't have as many problems with consoles cause all consoles are configured the same. Every PC problem is somewhat unique; for instance, I couldn't install cause I had Alcohol 120% on my machine. This causes headaches for their tech support people.

We complain a lot when these guys do us wrong. But here is a chance to pay them back for making the right decision. I bought two copies even though one would have covered my 2 computers.

I agree. There is no reason a boxed version of a game should be tied to an account. It's just a scheme to keep people from reselling the games so they get more money. Some of you might say it helps fight piracy which it does and thats good. But If you uninstall the game (boxed version) it should disconnect from that account.

I believe Benji is saying that since 2k9 can be re-downloaded from Steam after its initial disc install, you can install it on other computers with steam without the disc.

For those who have not bought it yet, we should probably mention that once it's installed and activated online, you do not need the DVD in your drive anymore, you launch the game directly from Steam, online or offline.
Just to make sure everyone's on the same page...

Not only this, but you don't even ever need the DVD again. As JaoSming said, and as I also meant, you can redownload the entire game through Steam. (Although, you may want to use the disc based on your connection. It's a bit under 9GB to download.)

Digging up discs and typing in CD-Keys is so five years ago.

But also this with a slight edit:
